Been on 25mg for 8 years, taken after dinner. Sleep like a log. If i have had wine or beer, can feel when it kicks in, and then push off to bed. Never take in the morning or lunch time. Dry throat common.

Thanks for the help, I'm no longer dizzy just getting up in the morning is a bit of a job, but it is getting better.

If you read the side affects weight gain is one of them, I started gaining weight, but some of which is because I had to stop running, I'm still on Trepiline and have started to loose it already, your body just needs to get used to it, however some contraceptives do cause weight gain, Iv heard of people who have gained 10kg in 3months after they have started on a contraceptive.

Hope that helps.

Hi,

I am prescribed 25mg tripaline in the evenings - I have always been skinny but suddenly all my clothes are shrinking. At 34 dieting is a whole new thing for me and rather unpleasant - will I get past this weight gain stage and become normal or will I escalate into a Hippo?

This is just to give everyone comfort - I was prescribed Trepiline a year and a half ago for nerve pain by my neurologist. 25mg a day. Take it at night. Be consistent - same time - about 20h00. I experienced no side effects other than dry mouth in the mornings. I gained about 2kgs initially (no more) and then it stablised. As an aside, I also suffer from insomnia and the added benefit is that I haven't slept as well in years. If I needed to go to the toilet during the night I was able to wake up easily and just dropped off again. It's a wonder drug as far as I am concerned - no nerve pain while I was on it. Took about 6 weeks to kick in. I was told by my doctor to stop taking it on 1 October this year. Was easily able to do this (no dependancy) although the insomnia has returned.

I have several failed back operations, and have cronic pain.My dr prescribed 6 x 25 mg (150mg) every night at 18:30. According to him, this will also help healing nerve membranes in my spine. Been on it now for 18 months, no side effects yet. any comment on this?

I have cronic back pain due to Cervical Spondulosis (I hope this spelling is correct). Have battled for years with sever pain & insomnia. My dr prescribed Trepiline about a month ago. This is like a magic drug. For the first time in years, I can sleep thru the night. I am not totally comatose. Do wake up to go to the toilet etc, but drop right back into a deep sleep. I do have a problem getting out of bed in the mornings. So, I take my Trepiline with my supper at about 6pm. I find that this does help me with my waking in the mornings.

Fatima, Amitriptyline (the active ingredient in Trepiline) belongs to pregnancy category D in the United States. This means that "There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks."

So I think this will boil down to your doctor's discretion based on your specific medical history. I hope this helps!

I have had poplitial arterial replacement using my veins in both my legs after an unsuccesful replacement with prosteses. MRSA were then diagnosed and recovery took quite a while. At this point my right knee was affected and I was operated to clear the knee (Synovectomy). My knee never realy recovered and the same with my blood circulation to both my legs. I am in constant pain and presently use 50Ug/h durogesic morphine stickers to help me through my day. At times I will also take one Synap forte if I know that i am going to exsert myself. My specialist prescribed me Lyrica which helped a bit but after a while my calves started to pain so I stopped it. Then Trepiline were prescribed with exactly the same prognosis. Is there perhaps anything else I should try as the Dorogesic stickers does not block out all the pain. I am 62 years old and have ceised smoking and can walk about 30 Metres without claudication that forces me to rest. I can however walk about 60 Metres with one crutch . I am also a mild diabetic (type2)
