Tramadol Overdose

Updated

Hi, last year in December I overdosed on 100 50mg capsules of tramadol, this was intensional but I was found and I was rushed to the hospital on a blue light, one route I had three seizures and the emergency team was unsure if I would survive, the reason I tried to take my life was I had been in a large amount of pain due to spinal stenosis, for the pain I was taking tramadol 2 x 50mg 4 x a day, 5 ml of oramorph 4 times a day, 2 x co codamol 500/30 4 x a day 50 mg Amitriptaline once a day and I had 10 mg butrans patches, even though I was on this amount of meds I was still in considerable amount of pain and I had enough. Short story is i survived the overdose and was held in a mental institution for 10 days. Since then I have had on operation to solve the pain which solved the pain problem but I have numbness to my left arm/hand still. My question is because of the overdose I am suffering from severe depression, The hospital warned my wife they was unsure how well I would recover because of the amount I took, could this be a brain damage side affect because of the overdose? Before I o'd I never had depression just chronic pain. Thanks

Wow I am just seeing this post...thank the creator that you are still alive and well. Glad you have had the operation that helps your pain. I do not know about the numbness, hopefully it is going to go away gradually. I wish I could assist you more. Many blessings to you & hope all is well now.

Hope all is well with you. I cried as I read your words as I suffer with spinal stenosis myself. As well as 2 bulging discs, degenerative disc in last disc in my spine. And sciatic pain that is becoming unbearable. Suicide has been on my mind a lot lately. Because I was diagnosed yrs ago as an opiate addict and bipolar w panic disorder I cannot get any help with the pain except Methadone so I cannot take my mental illness meds. I'm feel so sorry for others who are in chronic pain and can't get the right help. Drs only care about money in Florida so the poor suffer the most. God bless you. Will be praying for you and others like us. Be safe.

Dear Mark,

First, I am so happy you were NOT successful ending your pain filled life. There is one good thing to say about feeling pain..if you are feeling it, you are alive. I am a firm believer that suicides would be cut dramatically with proper pain control. So, not only did you survive, but you were able to receive corrective surgery. Thanks be to God!

Nerve damage is very common with back surgery, or actually many types of invasive surgical procedures. With just about ALL of my major surgeries, and I have had at least 17 of them, from teens to now, there has been nerve damage. Usually minor, but some, major. Some got better, some did not. Just trying to say you are not alone with that. Don't have a speck of advice for you, but know if it can't be fixed, it will most likely improve somewhat.

One warning, though, for what it's worth, many docs put those of us with nerve damage on LYRICA. The side effects can be found on this site. From experience, I can say I found it to be effective....but.....also had many dangerous side effects. Falls, with no memory of what happened. Black eyes, facial injuries, back and knee injuries. Again, absolutely no memory of what occured. Either someone would find me, or I'd find myself sprawled out on the ground. I'm prone to falls due to brain damage, but many testimonies here from people that had no fall history.

SO HAPPY FOR YOUR FAMILY! You are alive, received medical help. Hopefully you will be doing better soon and the nerve damage gets better for you.
