Tramadol By Amneal Vs Mylan (Page 5)

Updated

All our pharmacies here have switched to amneal, which doesn't do a thing except give a headache. The brand does make a difference. The mylan works great.

Re: Abigail (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

It will mess u up bad. I couldn't figure out why I was having such a hard time with anger, anxiety physically and mentally and so impatient and paronid. Was horrible....then I realized I was taking a different generic tramadol. It was the amneal!!!! I have been on tramadol for about 7 yrs. and never had this happen on the Teva

Re: Lynn (# 81) Expand Referenced Message

I'll keep an eye out for that, so far, no problems but it doesn't help the tinnitus like the Mylan did. Seems each generic brand has it's problems.

I have been taking the Teva brand of Tramadol and it's the only generic brand that actually treats the compressed nerve damage in my back. I have also found that in the 2 other medications I am prescribed, it's rather scary the difference between the generic brands. In my opinion, Mylan brand for tramadol, adderall, and tramadol, acts as though I took a sugar pill. However, every one responds differently, and that's clear due to the fact that there are many highly profitable generic brand drug companies. That's all well and good, but when there comes a time when Teva has a dramatic issue in production due to a mechanical issue, for example, that would mean that I would probably need to be under hospital care due to the seizures that can come with sudden stoppage in both tramadol and clonazepam. It's no wonder why so many people whom are now experiencing the reality of having a pain medication that they had taken daily, without incident, for years, are now looking to India for help with tramadol- a medication with t he strength comparable to codeine. India is a top purveyor of tramadol, and many believe that the quality of tramadol produced in India is abo e and beyond anything made here in America. While the opioid epidemic leaves those with well documented medical issues as the true victims, lumped in with the darkness that is heroin, more and more will have no other option but to look to another country to provide the medicine they need to simply function as a human. I never thought I would see such a day here in America. Well, here's to India and for that matter, Switzerland! Heroin was made legal in Switzerland 12 years ago. Can you guess how many overdoses there have been when they made pure, regulated heroin legal? It's a fact that needs to be made known to every graduating high school senior. They should know the reality because unless they let the truth be made known in a way that's loud and clear, then they will be mired in the devil's playground for all their days. They need to know that in the 12 years since Switzerland made heroin legal for personal consumption, that there has not been a single overdose death from heroin. Why is that not known here in America?

It's not easy to "change" when you live out in the middle of nowhere (me) and there are just two pharmacies with in a 45 min drive.

Re: Lynn (# 81) Expand Referenced Message

You may be on to something. I've now started getting very depressed and crying a lot. I'm also not sleeping more than 3-4 hours a night and sometimes a nap during the day. Nothing in my life has changed that much. I'm going to see the doc for a med check. This is ridiculous.

Re: howarderay (# 11) Expand Referenced Message

Yet "they" rescheduled this drug. It's ridiculous, if they want to change it to a Schedule IV substance, why change the formula to a lesser working one? Tramadol used to help ease my tinnitus, it no longer does. It also does very little for pain but I refuse to up my dosage from 2 50mg every morning. Taking it at night keeps me from a deep sleep which is very important for us fibromyalgia sufferers.

I have taken Teva US and Amneal brands. For pain I rate both of them 5 out of 10. Teva brand gives me more energy and some less anxiety. Amneal helps with my anxiety a lot and gives little energy.

Re: slybele (# 87) Expand Referenced Message

You're right, they rescheduled it to a higher narcotic, but they also changed the formula to a lower formulation, plus it is substandard. Someone, at one of the pharmacies(a few years ago, can't remember which) told me that our medications are now being bought from pharmaceutical mfrs. in India who have probably changed the fillers, which affect the way our bodies absorb and respond to the medication. They have probably also been instructed by our FDA to alter the pain ingredient to comply with, (at that time), Obamas war on Drugs. The generic tramadol being dispensed, in my case, does little to help with pain. I combine with naprosyn to get by, but it also causes various affects like depression and, or, anxiety some months, other months it takes away feelings, hope, enthusiasm, even anger, etc., plus it is a VERY harsh mix of components to swallow. Every now and then I get a script that feels like nothing, with no feeling of pain relief. But I keep hoping that the next month will be better, plus my only alternative would be to change to a narcotic like a Codone, or Morphine, which causes similar affects PLUS they cause a high/ loopyness which affects my balance, and makes it hard to stay awake. Original Tramadol, mfr'd before 2013, very efficiently took pain away, AND it caused NO negative affects. My pharmacy is at Fry's, they dispense Amneal which at one time mfr'd very effective medication, but which is NOT producing the same quality now. Generic tramadol is not the only medication that has been changed to a substandard formulation I have talked with family members and friends who say the medications they are taking(heart, diabetes, pain, etc) cause various affects that they didn't have before. Sorry to say, but I think as long as our meds are mfr'd in India, and maybe other cheap labor places, that the U.S. FDA is distant from, we will continue to get substandard medications.

I find that TRAMADOL manufactured by Teva is more potent than Mylan or Amneal.

Re: Truthsayer (# 93) Expand Referenced Message

What an ignorant statement! I actively encourage you to read the Hatch-Waxman Act as it relates to how the FDA determines if a drug is bioequivalent to the brand name.

It allows the generic firm to vary + OR - 20% when completing an ANDA for FDA approval.

When the generic company conducts its testing to demonstrate that their product is bioequivalent, they often will only use 10-15 subjects. Sometimes they may not even include geriatric patients, or patients of a different race.

Moreover, the FDA does not proactively supervise or oversee the generic firm's testing, they accept that the generic firm did not "fudge" their data, and that solid internal and external validity prevailed during testing.

The results of the generic company's testing is not made available to the public.

Finally, and this is where it becomes even more concerning, is that most generic companies actually produce their product in third world countries....usually India.

They may have offices in the United States and distribute the drug here, but they make the drug in places (that I can assure you) you would not..... want to live.

Re: slybele (# 87) Expand Referenced Message

They changed it to a controlled IV drug because (and most people do not know this but you can google opiate conversion calculator...there are serval available)
that 100MG of TRAMADOL = 10MG of Morphine.

Re: Abigail (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Abigail, I realize that your post here was from 2015 but wanted to comment that I also went through a similar issue when my longtime Tramadol script was refilled with "Amneal" instead of the Teva I'd been taking for years. I kept thinking it was just me(disturbing thoughts, bad headaches, etc.,) because it was during the early pandemic in 2020, I was moving to a different state, etc., but finally one day it occurred to me that these feelings had coincided with my last refill after I'd moved, and the Walgreens had switched it to Amneal. I called them and insisted on Teva, and within 4 hours of going back on Teva, it felt like a black cloud had lifted and I KNEW it was from the Amneal. My called my Dr to tell him, and told me that it could have been the fillers used by Amneal or just "a bad batch". I will never take anything other than the Teva again! I am not a person who usually has any "sensitivities" to meds, so it was really scary, and I lost about 4 weeks to the effects from the Amneal, since I couldn't function(wasn't working, thankfully).

This happened to me, too!
Amneal was horrendous.

Re: Lynn (# 81) Expand Referenced Message

Me too. Will never get Amneal again, my Walgreens orders a bottle of Teva and has a note in their computer "Teva for Tramadol" that pops up with a flag when they refill it, but I still check every single time because Amneal is the same shape and the pharmacy has floaters come and go who IGNORE the flag; this just happened yesterday, and they told me that was probably why. I didn't realize until I got home, called them right away to say I was bringing back the unopened script. They agreed that a fill-in employee had ignored the flag, and the refill was delayed because of it. Amneal is horrible.

My Walgreens only carries Amneal. No Teva. But today I got a refill and it's Tru Pharma.
