I live in Harrisonburg, VA in the US. I have an 11 year old pomeranian who suffers from a collapsing trachea that has progressed to retaining fluid around her heart. Our vet is Johnny Clark of Luray, VA, phone # 540-743-7387. He currently is treating her with 5mg of lasix, 50mg of aminophylline, and 5 mg of torbutrol daily. The 5mg of torbutrol cost $3.50 per tablet. I am 59 years old, going to college due to the economic situation in my area, and live off of $1100. per month from rental income and I have a $330. mortgage plus $600 rent payment monthly along with all other living expenses. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my big toes and can no longer work as a hairdresser as I did for 30 years. I have obtained an associate's degree in Human Services and am working toward a bachelor's in psychology with a minor in conflict resolution through the Adult Degree Program at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, VA. In two years, I hope to be financially secure again but presently, I am challenged. Trixie, my pom, is my constant companion and I have exhausted my means of providing her with the meds she needs so that she does not constantly have a nonproductive cough. Torbutrol is the only med that is helpful to her. Aside from this condition, she is a happy, lively, and loving companion and I, as well as Dr. Clark, do not feel euthanasia is called for at this time. When that time comes, I will not selfishly deny her the right to die with dignity regardless of the pain it will cause me. Therefore, I am challenged with finding an alternative means of obtaining the torbutrol at a more affordable cost to provide the comfort that she deserves. I appreciate your consideration of our circumstances.

i am in the same boat. i found out that this med for dogs is only in pill form but for humans it is in injectible form. there is a generic form of this drug that works well too but tough to find. my vet told me today that they will buy this drug in larger bottles and charge me their cost...they won't make money off me. i have priced large bottles and they are being honest about the price. ask your vet if they too will just buy the large bottle and charge you cost too. if you can find it at costco...even better. good luck

I'm sorry, but this site does not manufacture nor sell any medications, for animals or humans. this is an information only website.

Therefore, you may want to follow the other suggestion that was made, about talking to your vet about it.

There are also some website that sell veterinary medications at cheaper prices. When I had pets, I used to use Drs. Foster and Smith, they have a website and catalogs and may have better prices on it, if you can provide them with a prescription.

Does anyone else have an advice to add?

Torbutrol has currently been discontinued by the manufacturer. I am told that they will not be available until 2012 due to moving premises!!! This is now causing me great concern as I am struggling to find a suitable alternative for my 13 and a half year old yorkie who has been taking them since she was a year old.

I have a 12 year old pom that is taking torbutrol 2x a day along with 4 other medications. His Rx are costing me over $400 a month and I have a new baby. I have been everywhere in town and on line looking for torbutrol for a cheaper price. Did yall ever have any luck finding it cheaper?

I cannot get Torbutrol at all! I am in the UK and no vet or website stock it any longer because they cannot get it from the States! Does anyone know where I can buy it from? I was using 10mg tablet form as the 5mg was discontinued a while ago.

Can you tell me where I can fill a prescription for Torbutrol 5mg tablets? One website said only for licensed Vets. I have been disabled for 20 years and my 13 year old Shih Tzu has picked up Kennel Cough and I was surfing the internet and saw another cough medicine called Temaril-P 5 mg that is a used for coughing. I am on social security and pay major dollars, and the price on torbutrol is way too expensive. Which one of these 2 drugs is the best for my dog to take? Again we are currently on the torbutril 5mg tab and do you think that the Temaril-P 5 mg is a good medication? She is only 12 pounds. Thank you very much!
