Topraz (montelukast) is most commonly used to prevent wheezing, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, and coughing caused by asthma. It works by blocking the action of substances in the body that cause the symptoms of asthma.
It honestly sounds like a good viable option for asthma, however, there's really no way of knowing how effective it will be until you actually try it. This is because these types of medication can and usually do effect each individual differently.
Montelukast may cause the following side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:
headache
dizziness
heartburn
stomach pain
tiredness
Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:
difficulty breathing or swallowing
swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
hoarseness
itching
rash
hives
fever
flu-like symptoms
pins and needles or numbness in the arms or legs
pain and swelling of the sinuses

I returned from Saudi Arabia after a year contract to South Africa in July, 2013. I used antihistamine, preventers and relievers for my asthma and allergies in Saudi and stopped the antihistamines as soon as I arrived home. I had a flu shot to prevent myself from getting flu. I became ill within two weeks of returning to my country, went to the doctor two months later, took a course antibiotics (Penicillin), antihistamines, cough syrup, and my usual asthma preventers and relievers .The antibiotios were for five days, I felt better, but symptoms returned two days after the fifth day. I returned to the doctor after two months, very discouraged and he prescribed Penicillin again, but this time for 10 days, and Topraz. The relieve was dramatic. I'm still taking Topraz and have not used any preventers or relievers for asthma for more than a month now. I take an antihistamine with my Topraz. I'm a professional nurse and what I experience is nothing short from a miracle. I take my daily Topraz in the morning.

I use topraz 10mg once daily for 18 months. Struggle with swelling of hole body daily and gain weight over night. Got the topraz after ashma issues during Comrads 2015. More allergic...no phlym chest ever. But my body stay sencitive and swallon with pins and needles in hands and feet. Always look blown up and tubby. Any help will do please. Had 2 brain operations in 7 weeks appart and eversince 15kg gained. Not on any tabs for brain tumour. Epilim 1000mg had to be stopped regarding side effects. Please tell me if topraz could also be causing issues.

Sorry to tell you if you begin researching Topraz you will be shocked by all the people complaining about weight gain!! It is not listed as one of the side effects but it is deffinitely experienced by many of the users!!!
