Topamax Substitute

Does anyone know a good substitute for Topamax? It has be about ten days since I took the last dose of Topamax. The Dr. lowered my dose to 10mg, I took 200mg twice a day for maybe 3-4 months before it started to cause problems. I even fell 3 times!!! I am a 55 year old grandmother & I help with my grand kids. I have severe migraine headaches at least 4 times a week, I've had TMJ surgery 10 times, just chewing can give me a migraine. The Topamax seemed to help before the bad side effects started. Now I can't get rid of the dizziness, numbness, pin & needles and pain in my hands arms feet and legs. I am back to sitting on the couch all of the time with my ice pack tied around my head! I also take Paxil and pain meds just to get by.

Have you tried any of the beta blockers, such as Propranolol?

They are normally used to help lower blood pressure and treat certain cardiac conditions, but they've effectively helped some people with migraines due to the nature of how they work.

It's something you may want to ask about.

Hi:
I have complicated migranes and I take 300 mg of topomax daily and Tylenol IV to get by. I have side effects with topomax that I do not like as well. I am 55 and have to search for words, have numbness, aches and pains. The complicated mirgraines produce stroke like symptoms as well so with topomax, it is the 'lesser of 2 evils'. I am tired of dealing with the pain. Topomax is suppose to minimize the onset of the migraines, so if it does that, the question is, can you deal with the side effects? I decided the medicine is not working well enough and I would like to come off of it or reduce it. So I am. I can always go back on it. In the meantime, my doctor put me on cymbalta to deal with the pain and depression associated with the migraines.
It is worth a shot.
