Tirosint Is The Best!

Updated

Was on Levothyrosin, synthroid, and Armor thyroid meds over the past 7 years. The experience that I had with each one goes as follows. Levothyrosin made me feel like crap! I was tired, moody, sad, and questioned my sanity while I was on it. Weight gain! Synthroid made my skin, hair dry and brittle! It made me feel very irritated about little things. Weight fluctuation! Next, Armor I liked because I felt great! It helped me get my skin and hair back on a healthy course. Weight loss 20lbs! However, finding a doctor to write a prescription for it became too difficult when I relocated. Every doctor I asked said it may be a natural thyroid med because it comes from a pig but there is nothing natural about it! Anyway, My new doctor asked me to try Tirosint because it was in a liquid gel form and its benifits with the T3/T4 med terminology could be as rewarding as the Armour. Anyway, I tried it, love it! No side effects! Lost 15lbs too with working out 4x a wk. Good luck! Pharmacy may have to order it every time because it's not readily available.

Hello, Paula! How are you? I'm very glad that the Tirosint is working so well for you.

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and hair loss.

Has anyone else tried this one?

I am on tirosint because my body was not absorbing synthroid as well. I have Celiac disease which my doctor thinks is part of the reason. I have been on tirosint for a month and have maintained my weight ( lost 12 pounds after my thyroid was removed) I feel pretty good for the most part but will feel sad at times for no real reason. I do get headaches every once in awhile but am not sure it is related. Will check my blood work in three weeks to see if it's working. Hope that helps! :)

Since this involves hormones and one affects the others, you're feeling down and sad, once in awhile, it completely normal.

However, if it gets severe, such as you start to feel suicidal, then you need to consult your doctor.

Are there any other questions or concerns?

My daughter was diagnosed hypo and had a bad reaction to synthyroid generic but she has severe allergies to begin with to any fillers and generic meds- once on tirosint she lost hair for a month but it DID stop and level out. I have heard some people will lose some hair until their body adjusts, it seems to be the case with her, it just stopped falling out and is doing good and her tsh is level.

I thought my hair loss was result of hypothyroid (2012). Just starting third month Tirosint because of allergy to lactose and acacia in LEVOTHYROXIN. Insurance has 90 day PA on Tirosint and I don't know if I'm doing better or not with headaches at the base of my neck. I figure not ingesting allergens is the better choice. They seem to want to hear of some miraculous change before extending Tirosint. August TSH and T4 in range before change. Next blood tests will be interesting. Any advice?

Have been on tirosint for 6 months or so. The synthroid was really giving me problems. Sadly, I have not experienced any side effects to support weight loss :) but I am not nauseous and yucky like I was on sythroid. I think I have to get the dosage adjusted after blood work indicated way low TSH... but all in all it is definitely better in this gel form than the pill form.
