The New Oxycontin Sucks

Updated

10 Yrs. ago, 2 profile jobs, all well w/ world. 1/2 ton of product fell on lower back. Basically could not walk 3 yrs. , not 4 lack of effort. Searing, unbelieveable, pass-out pain. Reduced to embarrassing, going dr to dr begging 4 help.
Finally, dr says -My God, man, U R not getting prop. tx. I phucking cried. gave 100 mg. of oxycontin on the spot, I did not ask-he just read and SAW. My world changed! 10 yr, went from crutches 2 walking/short. As I had been gammut , I offered 4my parent to handle my meds , seeming all drs so concerned,=This was a GOOD drug 4 some that needed it. I was able to get some life back(they discovered 'terminal brain tumor around same time) wow. as usual I said, "I'LL stop this SOB, too) so far, have.
My two inpt. points I wanted relay 4 sure- 1] Dr. Said,"U need this 4 quality of life, U may/will Bcm dependant. U R NOT a DRUG-ADDICT. If you abuse, seek more, take diff. than prescribed- U R ADDICT"-'If I find latter, ByeBye script, OK? yes sir. never changed dose in 10 yrs., even tried taking less.
2] THE NEW FORM OF OXY LA (er, et al) DOES NOT WORK LIKE THE OTHER!!! I am having so musch leg pain, stomqch prob., can not hardly make it to next dose, and I itch like a SOB. Now, go try tell this to dr. - then U R suspected abuser. Thanks needler or whichever; back to being prone 4 most of day & pm. I am telling U, my dr. did not tell me ahead, nor did I read info. until 3 wks. ago. What, Docs? What, NOW?

*apologies 4 slang & word smush- interest of space/time.

No offense intended, but your slang and word smush makes it somewhat difficult to understand your post. I think I have the basic idea of what you're talking about, but we have nothing against long posts on here. We actually get a lot of them, so in the future, please feel free to just type like normal and throw in some white space to make it easier to read! :-)

Now, as to your problem, if I am reading correctly, you're saying the new formulation of Oxycontin, with the OP marking on the tablets isn't working for you.

This isn't an unusual complaint, at all. We have had many people posting that they have problems with it not working as well as the original formulation and that is causes odd side effects.

On that, the only thing I can really suggest is that you call and report the problem to both Purdue and the FDA at the following numbers:

Purdue Pharma number for drug safety/medication issues:

888.726.7535

FDA MedWatch number:

800-332-1088

As to what else you can do to get your pain under control, have you ever discussed any other treatment options with your doctor?

There is a time released version of Morphine, called MS Contin, that is available as the name brand and generic:

There is also a narcotic patch available, each one lasts for 3 days and the name brand for it is Duragesic, the generic is Fentanyl:

Thank you, Verwon. I guess I did not realize that there was a "moderator", or that you would reply to me /my post personally. I really did just 'stumble' or come across this site in my search for answers/help, thought it was a peer-type ( or others w/ similar experience ) place to post.

So, thanks again for the phone #'s. The reason my 1st post (as would this) disintegrated into 'slang and smush' is due to the brain tumor. It is about the size of a chicken egg, and growing right in my motor center. Ergo, the more I type the harder it becomes to hit correct keys, spell, etc.. as my fingers are numb on outside yet very painful if pressure is added, This probably has taken 20 min. so far. My inclinqation is to hurry up and get it over, see? So I apologize. I will B calling Mon. AM,

Peace-W.W.

WarWalker, no need to apologize, if that's what makes typing easier for you, then feel free to do as you need to and forget what I said. You have a valid reason for doing so and it is completely understandable.

We do, however, get some people that are just in the habit of typing in a jumble and/or using street slang and then they sometimes wonder why they don't get a lot of responses. What many don't realize is that when they use street slang, not all of it is universal, so not everyone understands their post to give them an answer. We also occasionally get those that just don't want to use their space bar and it can make it very hard to sort through their post and help them find the information they are seeking.

As to the site, we do have both, actually. I am on here to help make sure people get accurate information or answers to questions and we also have regular users who discuss their experiences and problems.

As a matter of fact, some of the posts on Oxycontin and the problems with the new formulation have been quite active and regular users have been posting in them for months about these issues.

It seems to me that you've already found our most active post on the subject here:

https://rxchat.com/Discuss/Call-Purdue-Pharma-about-new-OXYCONTIN-80MG-OP-208876_p5.htm

And I'm glad of that, since you can easily see you are not the only having problems with this medication.

Here's some other posts, some more active or older than others:

https://rxchat.com/Discuss/Oxycontin-OC-80-60-40-214427.htm

https://rxchat.com/Discuss/purdues-new-oxycontin-OP-210388.htm

https://rxchat.com/Discuss/new-oxycontin-208393.htm

But you'll see that almost everyone has run into the same issues with the new formulation.

And with your issues, like with the brain tumor, I really do think you should talk to your doctor about using something else, like the Fentanyl patch, that I mentioned. If he won't help you and thinks your problems with Oxycontin are just due to your abusing it, then it's time to see a different doctor.

https://rxchat.com/wiki/Fentanyl/

This is a very good pain medication, because it is actually over 80 times stronger than Morphine, which is why one patch lasts for 3 days.

If you have any questions or anything, feel free to post and I'll help if I can!
