Teva No Longer Manufacturers Clonazepam (Top voted first)

Updated

Teva No Longer Manufacturers Clonazepam, and I personally feel it is a good thing.

Teva, in my opinion, is a low-quality company who actually manufacturers 70% of their products overseas, in cities and communities I don't think you would want to live in.

I find the change-over, in terms of most of my medications, including clonazapam 2mh hs to be more effective than before.

There are, of course, individual differences, but this is how it is for me personally.

Would anyone else care to comment?

I just spoke with TEVA and was told they have discontinued making Clonazepam?!? I have been on this specific generic for over 10 years. I tried Mylan brand and it was awful!! I take this for anxiety and panic attacks. What are my other options?

Teva was caught bribing Russia and Mexico to get drugs into their countries, (India Times). 2 million$ fine, Teva has bought Actavis and quite a few other "generics", mind you distributed and manufactured are 2 different things completely, Actavis, Apotex, and Accord are all manu. in India! Most generics show an american address, but, are manufactured in India. Remember Puerto Rico has had no power grid, so no more generics from there for awhile, I believe the few last generics from there were shipped to the U.S., but, do not get generics made in Mexico, heard there have been quality control issues. Lack of quality generic drug manufacturers is wreaking havoc on us all, as I take clonazapam and have one script filled with 3 different manufacturers, Walgreens did not have 30 of the same brand and ordered Mylan 2x's and warehouse sent Accord and another generic brand. It's getting bad folks.

Re: Matt (# 17) Expand Referenced Message

and everyone else...

The reason the Teva brand clonazepam worked so well is because it contained the ingredient povidone which basically makes the pill an extended release version of klonopin. No other manufacture includes this in their clonazepam generic. If you notice like I did when you took the Teva brand it didn't make you tired like all the other generic brands do. That's because the release of the Teva brand is slow and controlled over time rather then just being dumped in your system at full strength all at once. Overall, reproducible and pH independent sustained drug release rates could be achieved successfully by incorporating this new polyvinylacetate povidone based polymer excipient in matrix tablet dosage forms.

Here is cut and paste proof from a study of povidone in sustaining the release of the drug:

"Overall, reproducible and pH independent sustained drug release rates could be achieved successfully by incorporating this new povidone based polymer excipient in matrix tablet dosage forms."

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

my pharmacy last week told me TEVA stopped with production of cloneazepam. I am not sure I have a good or better replacement. I'd like to know which one is closest and best.

They still make it. I am on it. I have been on the TEVA brand for years. I was on Carico at Walgreens and then they carried Mylan which never worked. Went into withdrawal. TEVA did quit making the 1mg for a while but they are back making it. I have been on the 2mg since 2010.

I have checked all pharmacies in my area. Everyone has switched to the blue 1mg pill. After looking at both brands the blue pill is a cheaper brand a totally different make up with less ingredients.

I work in a pharmacy and our wholesaler has all strengths as being pulled. Note says manufacturers have discontinued this product. Only the dispersible tablets are available to order.

Re: Eric (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

TEVA aquired ACTIVIS and are no longer making their own TEVA brand of clonazepam. My CVS switched to the Mylan for a week and then back to TEVA and now that they have run out they are Using the ACTIVIS and much better

Are you saying the Activis is much better than TEVA brand? I am almost out of TEVA and am looking for other generic that is same or better than TEVA
Thank you

Activis is probably the closest thing to TEVA brand.

Re: Amsterdameric (# 24) Expand Referenced Message

The brand name is just as bad as some of the generics. Works ok for anxiety but leaves you/me depressed and in a fog at .5mgs

HIGHLY disagree. Two Teva Rxs have been my seizure disorder brand for many years. And I'd accept no other. They stopped making Gabapentin so PRESENTLY take Cipla brand. They no longer make clonazepam, and it's a nightmare for lots of us. Praying Actavis, who they sold out to, has the same formula.

The only ones left are the name brand klonopin (Roche), Actavis (formerly Purepac), and Accord, which i havent tried but heard it is ineffective and also made in China.

Every other manufacturer has discontinued clonazepam so those 3 above will be the only options going forward. You might get lucky and find some remaining Teva brand but it wont be around much longer. Northstar (Sandoz, Novartis) is gone. Par (Qualitest, Solco) is gone. Mylan is gone. Caraco (Sun) may still be available but i have never tried those.

The Roche (name brand) are way too expensive, so i try to get Teva if available but the next best thing for me is Actavis (formerly Purepac) which has been bought by Teva. Actavis does not work as well for me as Teva but after a week or so of taking them my body seemed to get used to them. My doc had to increase my dosage from .5 mg to 1 mg in order to keep it effective.

Re: Sam (# 43) Expand Referenced Message

Just so people know the "name brand" is really not Roche. It's Genentech which is a division of Roche. I've had zero help from the Genentech version.

Re: Dubskii (# 45) Expand Referenced Message

That was my point..while it may or may not be as the good as the original Roche, which ive never had , the Genentech version is nowhere close to being as good as Teva brand and cost $85 a month for 30 - .05 mgs

Re: Kathie (# 47) Expand Referenced Message

CVS told the truth, for a change. I have cervical dystonia/spasmodic torticollis since 1997 and took Teva in first clonazepam for 23 yrs, then in my main Rx of Gabapentin when they had a generic. Criticize Teva if you want. But the only bad experience I had with any generic, was a company in TENNESSEE (sorry Tenn.) The only bad experience I had with gaba was a generic other than Teva. I now have been taking Cipla and Ascend Gabapentin and Actavis clonazepam. No problems, but the Actavis is way too chalky/dissolves too fast. I preferred the flat, hard, green Teva.

Any pharmacy saying they I have Teva Clonazepam I would highly doubt. The company has informed me by phone and email they do NOT make it any longer. Could only recommend Actavis. I did, and it's been fine for my medical disorder. BTW, Accord was horrible for me when I tried the 2-day sample.

Re: Eric (# 58) Expand Referenced Message

Talked to cust service at TEVA again. They are asking all to email them at:

[email protected] - to complain about Actavis and ask for old formula TEVA clonazepam-I understand the cynicism but it doesn’t hurt to try to get the old TEVA clonazepam back. Fighting for something you care about is important
