Teva Lamotrigine (93 463) Availability

The CVS pharmacy I have been filling my prescription at told me that Teva will no longer manufacture Lamotrigine (pill imprint: 93 463). Is this correct? I've tried other mfgs and I still had seizures and I immediately knew I should buy Teva. I have less than 10 pills left now.

CVS lies a lot. Just filled at Walgreens with teva brand..CVS told me they cold not get .5mg clonazapam anymore also.. I switched all to Walgreens...

after doing extensive research I found out Teva and Mylan will no longer manufacturer Lamotrigine. I have not tolerated the other generic brands. I'm trying to find a brand that work for me as well since my insurance refuses to give me name brand. If you have any luck I would appreciate you sharing

Hello Clara,

According to the Teva website they are discontinuing their Lamotrigine brand. Good news is that there should be enough pills in circulation for you to obtain some more in the mean time but the bad news is that eventually you will have to make the switch to another brand.

What other brands have you tried? A suggestion I can make is to look into brands that contain the same inactive ingredients or as close to the same as possible. These inactive ingredients can change the way that our bodies absorb the active ingredients and thus might be the reason that the other brands did not work for you. If you could give me a list of what brands will be available at the pharmacies that you use I would be willing to look up the ingredients for you and tell you which is closest to the Teva brand.

I am in a similar situation with my daughter and we are desperately trying to find a solution. I believe that my pharmacy can obtain any of the generics. Can you tell me what is the closest to Teva. Also, if we can would it be better to just switch her to the brand Lamictal. She switched one time four years ago and had a seizure that day so we are very worried about this.

I just saw your post regarding TEVA discontinuing lamotrigine. I have been using this manufacturer for over 5 years with no issues. I take 200 mg twice daily and my prescriptions are filled at Walgreens. The pharmacist said she can now get the medication from either Alembic or Unichem. I’ve had previous problems in the past when switching other generic medications due to the fillers. It would be so helpful if you could tell me which of these two manufacturers use the same or similar fillers as TEVA. I’d also be interested in knowing which of the two manufacturers you believe is the most reputable. Thank You!!

Three things we all should know. #1) CVS just purchased Aetna HealthCare for something like $60B dollars. #2) CVS appears to be dropping many of their drug suppliers especially TEVA Pharmaceuticals and replacing them with Chinese brands to $ave money. #3) One of these new Chinese suppliers that CVS now uses is Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceuticals or ZHP (distributed by various 3rd party vendors like Solco LLC and Torrent). Look for these names on the drug bottle labels (unless your drugs were rebottled in the orange containers) This company is currently under Federal Investigation for poor quality control, and the FDA recently issued a major recall for some of their products because they found their drugs contained a know human carcinogen Nitrosodiethylamine!

So my wife recently picked up her BP meds from CVS and noticed it was not the usual TEVA brand. CVS said they no longer carry TEVA, and that this is all they now sell. She looked at the bottle and it was indeed made in China by ZHP. She refused it on the spot, alerted the pharmacist of her concerns and he told her to take or leave it. She left it, removed all prescriptions from CVS, and dropping Aetna as well.

We suspect CVS has a conflict of interest since they are now running Aetna too. By going cheap with their drugs and thus cutting costs at our risk, who knows what else they're up too!

Go to a different pharmacy and ask if they are selling the same drugs from China. If they do, ask them why...

My drug manufacturers are:

-Zydus pharm
-Prasco pharm
-Mylan
-Cipla USA inc
-Teva USA

Are these companies China or foreign companies my husband has. Aurobino pharm. Jansen pharm. This is getting crazy not knowing they're coming from foreign lands just assumed here. Help to clarify if anyone knows. Greatly appreciate it.

On a different thread on the same topic they have discussed the various generics of lamotrigine in detail. It came up that Teva does make an extended release version of lamotrigine. You may want to look into that. Teva did discontinue the regular versions of lamotrigine all doses. I spoke with them and had extensive emails with them. By law generics can contain 80% to 120% of the active ingredient which is where the problem comes in not the inactive ingredients. I did not have success with replacements and chose to change medications entirely. Because of the differences in active ingredient strength when you start substitutions the body takes it as a withdrawal. So if you have been taking 120% then switch to something like the chinese one which is probably 80% then your body goes whoa not what we are used to and you have the seizures.
