Is Teva Duloxetine gluten free? I have severe celiac and am trying to find out if this manufacturer is making this product gluten free? Please help!

Hello, Cecee! How are you? Can you please post back with the markings on it? That is what would enable me to research this information for me.

The FDA warns that the typical side effects of Duloxetine may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight changes.

I don't know about the Teva version, but the one I take, made by Citron, has no gluten.

I stopped taking Venaflaxine XR 75mg. after 17 years. I have many debilitating disabling chronic health problems, auto-immune disease & started getting Fibromyalgia pain about 5 years ago. I never knew that there was an antidepressant that also could help alleviate muscular skeletal pains. She was aware of when my Fibromyaliga pain started because all of my progressive health problems (I have had prolonged disability unable to work for 20 years now), but I guess because she was treating me for depression, she never suggested switching to something that might help both. I was tired of the horrible withdrawal side effects (for periods of many months, years I was also on 150 XR mg.) even if I missed one dose a few hours taken after the prior 24 hr. dose.

With a new doctor after all those years I was taken off the Effexor & put on first Cymbalta 20 mg. It did nothing to alleviate my major depression or my Fibromyalgia pain. She raised it to 40 mg. & still no relief from the chronic pain, not major lift of depressive mood but I immediately had awful diarrhea. I have for 20 years (had many tests) after getting a virus which caused chronic fatigue, vertigo & other horrible symptoms I still have to this day, I started having severe colitis/proctitis. I am also gluten & lactose intolerant & there are many foods that I can no longer digest. At one point 2 years ago I was taking up 5 to 7 Loperamide (the drug in Immodium) a day just to be "normal". My gastrointestinal distress is much worse since I have been on the Duloxetine. I was raised to 60 mg. about 5 weeks ago since my pain hadn't gotten any better & my mood wasn't at the level it had been on the Venaflaxine. But since going up to the 60 mg. I have been so very sick everyday with cropping stomach pains, then not long after painful diarrhea for many hours, each day. I told the doctor and she said that I should adjust to it. She is also aware of my other health issues including my digestive problems and I should've adjusted to it by now. It occurred to me that maybe the drug manufacturer that makes the Duloxetine for the pharmaceutical company doesn't make it gluten free.

I looked on the site glutenfreedrugs but it must be an old list because it doesn't even list Duloxetine. I searched for generic gluten free drugs but only got the same list. Now I see on this site that there is a company called Citron that makes it gluten free but the 20 mg. capsules contain phthalates. If the 20 mg. capsules contain toxic and carcinogenic pathogen, now I'm wondering at what level would the phthalates be for the 60mg. delayed release capsules. I don't know what to do. I am so ill for many hrs everyday already suffering with a serous chronic disease that leaves me home bound and mostly bedridden. Now I have to keep running back and forth for many hours each day from my bed to the bathroom, being completely drained, weak & sick over & over again. Why don't these companies list which drugs are gluten free & be honest which ones aren't?

People suffer terribly on a daily basis when they aren't honest. I will have to switch to Citron unless there is another company someone knows who makes the Duloxetine gluten & phthalate free. I also am not crazy about the other side effects of Duloxetine & wish it was more effective at the lower doses. If I miss one dose even by a few hours because I was asleep & wasn't able to get up to take it the same time each day, I get nauseous & dizzy. Since on it I get dizzy just from getting out of bed & once I felt myself start to faint just sitting up in bed. I also have had some strange sensations since taking it just like I read in a post here about the strange pain going down my arm to my hand and causing numbness. Very scary.

Re: Shayna (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I feel your pain! Having colitis, Celiac disease, fibromyalgia and a list of other health issues which cause me great pain and many an hour spent in bathrooms I am very saddened and stressed by trying to investigate all meds I out in my body and the lack of shared information. There are millions suffering from health conditions which are caused or greatly influenced by gluten yet they don't openly tell us if it's present in their products. Every manufacturer is different and can change the ingredients or process in which it's made to contaminate it with +/ add gluten to it at any time. I have recently been given cymbalta made by a different manufacturer and I am pretty certain that is why my health declined again.

Re: Shayna (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you for your testimony my girlfriend who is 21 years old was given DULOXETINE of brand CYMBALTA. She is Celiac and very gluten sinsitive. Everything got worse since taking them, I am pretty sure that these pills aren’t gluten free or not made for celiacs or people with joint pain. I have been researching a lot and this medicine is not a fit for celiacs.
