Have some that is over a year old is it safe to take for a cough? ## Certain drugs like this should actually be okay to take after expiration, whereas others such as antibiotics can become toxic. My personal assumption is that it lost a good percentage of its potency by now, having been over a year old. So it may still be effective, but not quite as potent. I also think it's difficult to give a direct answer to this question, since each medication can effect people differently. We all know that it's better to try and avoid the expired drugs and stay on the safe side, but unfortunately the only way to find out is to actually try it or get it lab tested. According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of...

is it safe to take a but/apap/caf codeinecap if the expiration date is 01-18-2012 ## Hi mary, My answer to your question would be yes, it is safe to take this specific medication past it's due date. According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. At worst, it may have lost a bit of potency, but the only way to find out precisely would be to have it lab tested. Source: health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1103a.shtml I hope this info helps to shed some light on the topic of expired medication :)

I took this pill and the expiration date is 09/23/11. Is anything going to happen to me? ## Hi Crystal, According to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. Source: health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1103a.shtml Penicillin does not go bad/get dangerous with age, per se, however, it can lose efficacy and may not work as well as it did, when it was new. This means that taking a standard dose may not effectively wipe out an infection and could actually cause the development of drug resistant bacteria. Cough substitute for tanna. presscripion date 2.2 2009. can I take it today for a cough or should I throw it out ? ## Hi molly, There's actually a lot of conflicting information around the topic of expired medication, but according to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. I don't know if the drug you have happens to be one of these drugs from the st...

yellow and black oblong capsule, with a picture of something followed by 2407. It is supposed to be tetracyclene, but the bottle states that mylan 102 should be printed on each pill. ## Based on the description provided, I can confirm your yellow and black capsule to be Tetracycline hydrochloride (500 mg). It sounds like there was some sort of mix up at the pharmacy with the manufacturers. The marking Mylan 102 comes up as the same exact yellow and black capsule as 2407. The only difference I noticed is in the manufacturers of these pills. Additionally, there may be a slight variation of inactive ingredients, but other than that you can be assured that they are the same drug and same dosage.
