I was prescribed this medicine when I was pregnant...I had a UTI...I did not take all of this medication because my OBGYN decided she wanted something different than my primary had given me...The prescription was given to me 06/29/2011 it is now 11/29/2012...I have the same problem I had back then and would like to take this medicine...Is it still good...Will it be safe...I suffer from UTI's occasionally and I know this is what I have... ## According to a product information page from Roche Pharmaceuticals, the shelf life of this antibiotic is 5 years, so you are definitely in the clear as far as taking it a few months past due. In addition, a Harvard Medical School family health article mentions that, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to...

We have found a capsule which is half white and half red with an MK in an oval in black imprinted on each half of the capsule. Any idea what this is? ## I am sorry, but I can't find any information on this. It has popped up a few other times and the theories are that it's a foreign medication, which would also explain why it's not in our databases. Do you happen to know the country of origin? ## I think this is an antibiotic. I got it in Nicaragua so country of origin would be somewhere in Central America. ## Guatemalan medication. are red and white with mk with a black oval around it. I have some Ed-a-hist 4-10mg tablets that expired on 5/29/15, are they still safe for me to take and will they still be helpful to me? ## Hi Perky, I can't speak for this drug specifically, but when it comes to expiration dates in general, one rule of thumb is that the listed expiration date is more of a ball-park figure rather than a precise date by which it essentially renders unsafe/ineffective (aside from tetracycline). Studies from Harvard Medical School as well as The LA Times point out that many medications are actually still good for up to 10-40 years after the listed expiration date. So I will say that if it were me in this position, I personally wouldn't mind taking something that's only been "expired" for less than a year. I'd just encourage you to res...

I need to know how long Stugeron is good after the expiration date on the front has passed. I have a pack here that says "exp 2 2013". I'm traveling soon so I would like to know if these pills will still work for me or not. Thanks! ## @Allyouneedtoknow, Not all expired medications are bad, but I think it's good that you took the time out to check first since some can be dangerous (i.e. tetracycline). According to a drug monograph I read, Stugeron has an estimated shelf life of 3 years. I also found out that it does not require any special storage conditions like most other meds do. So you should be fine to take it until 2016 based on that info alone. I don't know if at what point it can begin to diminish potency, however other drug studies by Harvard University sugge...

i have been on tetrecycline for 10 years then stopped over night, ever since i have aching feet, elbows and general aching feeling very old, only stopped because i was told my teeth would go grey ## Why were you taking it for so long? What you're experiencing are probably some withdrawal and rebound effects, because your body does get used to any medication that you take regularly for that long of a period of time. Learn more Tetracycline details here. It is amazing that your teeth didn't turn odd colors quite awhile, as Tetracycline is very well known to cause that. ## Have you taken an acne drug during your past. I've been diagnosed with H-Pylori and my Dr recommended tetracycline 500 mg with Omeprazole Magnesium 20.6 mg. Will this combination help? ## Hello, Carmen! How are you? Yes, these types of medications are usually prescribed together to eradicate this infection. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have a UTI and was taking urovec with tetracycline for 1 day and the discomfort of the uti has not subsided at all! I want to switch over and start taking amoxicillin asap which has worked really well in the past. Are there any complications I should be aware of by starting the amoxicillin 4 hours after taking the urovec with tetracycline? ## No, you can usually just make a smooth transition from one to the other. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, it does take more than one day for an antibiotic to work. Usually, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours and you should see improvement after taking it for a full 3 days. Is there anything else I can help wi...

Got a bad sinus infection swelled up bad will they help ## Hello, Kel! How are you? I'm sorry about the sinus infection. Tetracycline is an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections, so you should take it as instructed by your doctor. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, this one is most commonly used to treat acne and skin infections, so it may not be appropriate for all infections and you shouldn't take it, if your doctor hasn't instructed you to do so. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have an infection in one of my teeth and was given Tetracycline to take for 10 days. Now I may have an ear infection. Can both infections be cured with one type of antibiotic? And if the ear infection turns out to be viral, then antibiotics won't do a thing. Thanks ## Yes, it may clear up both. The FDA lists typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. And yes, you are correct again, it will not do anything to treat a virus. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi my wife has severe tooth ache and went to see the doctor. He gave her antibiotic due to the absess the tooth made but said she can only use panado for her tooth and she is pregnant. Panado does not help what else can she take? ## Be sure the antibiotics aren't Tetracycline. It can turn the babies teeth yellow when their teeth come in. She may need to see a dentist. It is difficult to treat someone when they're pregnant because there are two patients instead of one. The Panado may work better after she has had several doses of the antibiotic.

hi i went to the clinic yesterday with a problem of having a discharge than the nurse gave me doxytet only to find when i got home that the pills expired in July 2013 i only took two pills will i any side effects in my body? ## Sorry to hear about your experience with getting older medication. With most types of drugs, the only thing you'd have to be concerned about it is if it lost any potency. However, when it comes to specific types of antibiotics (namely those associated with tetracycline, such as Doxytet/Doxytetracycline), it can become toxic after the expiration date. I honestly wouldn't recommend taking any and if possible go and try to get your money back from the clinic. It's a good thing you checked first before taking the full prescription, because you never know ...

Can this be taken for a "boil" type bump ? The only thing is, Doxycycline and Tetracycline are both pretty similar so there is a possibility that you could have a reaction. Increase in spinal fluid isn't stated as a side effects though. The side effects for Doxycycline are as follows: Stomach upset, diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. If you experience a severe sunburn, vision changes (such as blurred vision), unusual/severe headache, or change in the am...

i have a packet of eryko 250 tablets that expired close to 9mounts ago. I need to know if they are still any good to take or harmful in anyway? I read some where that some pills can still work well beyond their expire date. Even years later. How true is this for eryko 250 ## Based on my research, certain drugs are actually okay to take many years after their expiration date, whereas others such as, specific types of antibiotics (namely tetracycline) can become toxic. Normally I'd still consider taking something if it's been less than a year old, but because ERYKO-250 is an antibiotic (and I don't know if it can become toxic) I would encourage you to get a new script from your doctor or have it lab tested for quality, before relying on it for a serious infection. Can I use beyond expiration date? ## There's actually a lot of conflicting information around the topic of expired medication, but according to a Harvard Medical School family health article, except in rare cases (i.e. tetracycline), there is little chance of danger due to taking medications even up to 15 years beyond their expiration date. This conclusion was based upon a study conducted at the request of the US military due to stockpiles of expensive drugs they could otherwise need to replace every few years. The conclusion was that 90% of those drugs remained effective 10 - 15 years after the expiration date. I don't know whether or not the drug you have happens to be one of these drugs from the study... (I have not seen the list of drugs used in this study). But I'd imag...
