Testing Positive For Gabapentin

I had a test done because I was supposed to be getting on pain managment. I took it on the 3rd of this month. It came back to day saying that they had found Gabapentin in it, but I dont know how as I had NEVER heard of it until today, and I have not been given it by may Neurologist, but the dr said that since that showed up I am NO LONGER aloud to get pain meds from them. I even tried explaining that it wasnt even a Narcotic, but they wont let me retake the test. Is there anything I can do to prove to them that they are wrong?

UNFORTUNATELY, once any pain clinic finds things in your blood, by measurements, they will no longer provide any treatments for you ! They are all like that, you may just take one pill and if they are looking for certain levels, they will find out you took that pill. Things show up you would never even think of.

I had a similar issue recently. I took a drug test on 1/28 and today I was told that I tested positive for Gabapentin. It was the first time I had even heard of it. I am prescribed generic adderall, and was taking Naproxen (prescribed) as well. Any ideas what may have caused it?

have you PCP write a letter to whomever ! Tell them to pull your medical chart too. I suspect they think you took someone else's meds. Pain clinics are well known to be choosy w/meds for their patients. Or find another DR. altogether GOOD LUCK !

Adderall is a stimulant, gabapentin is used like neurontin for diabetic nerve pain. perhaps the two BROKE DOWN to a false-positive reading, which can & does happen !

Can neurontin be tested through urine or is it just blood

Your doctor should never neglect pain management over neurotin in your system regardless of how it got there. Sounds like your doctor is a green tea specialist. You need to find a doctor who's practice is (family medicine). I overdosed on cocaine ended up in a psych ward and after got on a pain management program with 9, 300mg neurontins, 6 percocet, and 2 amitriptyline's a day. No excuse for you.

Izzy, I felt as though you were writing my own post. The exact situation happened to me and I haven't taken gabapentin over 18 months. However, I do take lyrica but the nurse explained that lyrica would not show up as gabapentin. I was fortunate though and only received a written warning. I will continue to research gabapentin as I was truly terribly upset. I felt as though I were a criminal. I worked in the medical field for 26 years and have heard many horror stories. I mean I can't be the only one telling the truth. I'm so sorry this happened to you. I was also mortified and embarrassed and yet, I did nothing wrong. My doc and his staff are quite exceptional ands I'm lucky to have them.

I tested positive for Gabapentin two months after stopping taking it. I did take methadone. Would that cause it?

I recently just failed a test for gabapentin also and have never taken it. I am on suboxone, effexor, clonodine and seroquel only. I have not even taken an ibuprofen or tylenol. I am baffled and i want to prove to my dr that it's false. I am worried that she will take away my suboxone as u lost ur medicine due to these false positives. If u find out how it got in ur system pls let me know. {edited for privacy}. I am losing my mind tryin to figure this all out.

I actually did take Gabapentin off and on and I’m in a suboxone program. I was only taking 2 a day when I did take it and it was helpful for my knee pain. I stopped taking it altogether and had a clean drug screen showing it was gone from my system. 2 weeks later it shows up again even tho I haven’t taken it in a while obviously because I failed screens before they will not take my word for it only thing I’ve taken is OTC all a seltzer, suboxone, naproxen, Zoloft, and Prevacid
