Fe/Folic Acid (terraferron)

Drug classification: Antianemics / Pre and postnatal vitamins

Indication: Prevention and treatment of Fe-deficiency anemia due to hemorrhage, infections, intestinal parasitism, prolonged illness; prevention and treatment of anemia due to folic acid and B12 deficiencies.

Side effects: Heartburn, N/V, constipation and diarrhea

Nursing management:
-Assess for GI complaints
-Monitor V/S specially pulse
-Monitor CBC to evaluate treatment effectiveness
-Monitor changes in stool
-Educate the client regarding the prescribed drug
