Synthroid contains the active ingredient Levothyroxine and for best effectiveness, it is usually supposed to be taken in the morning, one to 2 hours, before eating or drinking anything other than water.

Side effects may include: nausea, dizziness, headache and weight changes.

since it comes in micrograms, I suggest never...your hair will fall out and your mouth and lips will go numb! If you take it, take it with nothing, no calcium!!! Ask the Doctor to clarify the drug order!!! I as a nurse would and usually do when I see a goof up!

My PCP has me back on synthroid (.05MG) from previously taking (.025MG). I have been off of it for about 4-5 months because three weeks after beginning my initial dosage, the right side of my face swelled. I saw an Endocrinologist and he said the dose was too low to make any difference to my thyroid. Based on my levels at that time, he didn't think I needed to be on meds. I had another blood draw a week ago, and my PCP put me back on synthroid at the .05MG dose. These pills are white, the previous were yellow. No one has been able to explain the facial swelling (which is still residual, but not as bad as before). They do not blame the synthroid, however it was the only thing new that was introduced at that time. I will begin my new dose of synthroid tomorrow, as I received it too late in the day today to begin anew. Any thoughts? Much appreciative.

I have been on Synthroid and Liothronine for a month and the Dr just change my dosage to to .1 of synthroid and 25mcg of Liothronine because I had vertigo because the high dosage so I am now taking half of the 25mcg Liothronine and since the changes and I am exhausted and my muscles are so sore I can barely lift my arms. I called the Dr today and he told me to wait about a month and it should change. Does anyone have the same problems

I noticed the previous replies are from 2012, so hope someone is still reading this thread. I have been on Synthroid for many years... I go through bouts of severe vertigo. I also suffer from stiff neck (the back right side of neck). Also bouts of heart palpitations. I never made the connection with Synthroid until after reading about it online. Can anyone relate to this? I feel like my life is over as I never know when vertigo will occur. Afraid to even leave home. After reading articles online my doctor is putting me on levoxyl...I start taking it today.
