My son is a middle distance athlete. Started having coughing fits after his races. Dr did a lung function test although normal put him on Symbicort to use before he races. Then he got a terrible throat infection and has ever since been coughing all the time. GP then made him take Sumbicort 2 puffs in the morning 2 puffs in the evening, but he is still coughing. then we were referred to pulmonologist again lung function normal. Can the coughing be aro of the Symbicort? He says it feels like there is a hair in his throat? ## Hello, Lorna! How is your son? Yes, that can be a side effect of this medication, as reported by the FDA. He may also experience cold symptoms, back pain, headache and stomach discomfort. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been taking symbicort for about twelve days. After 6th day, started to develop an all over (arms, torso, legs) itchy rash. Had been taking other drugs, so put it down to those, but have been off them for several days now and rash still with me. Should I stop? I'm was due to stop in next few days. ## Hello, David! How are you? Yes, it would be best to stop using it and consult your doctor. An itchy rash is usually the sign of an allergic reaction, so this may not be the right medication for you to use. The FDA lists other possible allergic reactions as including dizziness, swelling and trouble breathing. Is there anything else I can help with?

Stopped taking this six weeks ago and have had joint and muscle pain bad could this be due to stopping medication ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? How long were you using it? As listed by the FDA, it does contain a steroid and stopping it may cause some withdrawal effects, if you were using it for a long time, but 6 weeks is an unusual time frame to still be experiencing them. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain and acne. Are you on any other medications?

Have been on symbicort for 7 years and it's worked great for asthma but I have put on 30+ lbs and have developed a very noticeable "buffalo hump" on my neck.justvstarting researching corticosteroid side effects - after years of diet and a lot of exercise, my weight won't budge. With family history of osteoporosis and diabetes, I am concerned about continuing. Making appt with GP tomorrow, but wondering if anyone else has experienced these particular side effects. ## Hello, Carrie! How are you? Yes, please see your doctor as soon as possible. You may have developed Cushing's Syndrome, which requires medical treatment. It can develop due to prolonged exposure to cortisol. Do you have any of the other symptoms that the NIH lists, such as acne, a rounded face, high blood...

After using Symbicort for only two days, I developed intense back pain sending me to the ER. That pain began on May 25th and it is now July 9th and the pain is still very bad, mostly in lumbar area and side. No pain down either leg. After going to ER two times for pain help, and two other doctors. I went to a pain doctor. I was given an injection in my back on the right side on June 25th. I am due for the second injection on July 28th on the left side. The pain is still severe and I am on Hydrododone 7.5 / 325 every 4 hours. The pain doctor wants to be in complete charge of pain meds, so I am only on the hydrocodone. How long does this Symbicort remain in my body? I am really depressed and discouraged. Please help. I had done nothing to bring this pain on and first noticed a slight back...

I HAVE AN ITCHY, RED BLISTERING RASH ON BOTH SHINS. CAN IT BE CAUSED BY SYMBICORT? I HAVE COPD, EMPHYSEMA AND HEP C. I HAVE ALSO BEEN ITCHING QUITE A BIT, WITHOUT RASH, ALL OVER MY BODY FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS. ANY IDEAS WHAT IT MIGHT BE RELATED TO? ## Symbicort contains the active ingredient Formoterol and Bedesonide and yes, it has been known to cause both types of side effects, in some people. It can affect your circulation, which makes you more susceptible to allergens and it can also, sometimes, cause such rashes. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to switch to a different medication. ## I have taken Symbicort for 2 weeks and I have the same blistering rash. I itch everywhere. I hope it goes away soon. It is very uncomfortable. ## I have a red rash on my elbows and on my ...

I just started taking sympicort for copd. Can I take tums, ibuprofen, tylenol, or bc powders with this medicine? I am googleing it and it never tells me if I can or not. ## Hello, Amy! How are you? While you are always welcome to ask here, if you wish to research for yourself in the future, look for an interaction checker. That will help you find the information you need. Now, as to the medications in question… No, on the Ibuprofen, it increased the toxicity of the ingredients in the Symbicort. It may cause the Tums to not work as well, since you won't retain an absorb as much of it as usual. As the to BC powders, I can't check those, without knowing the specific ones to check their ingredients. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! The FDA lists the typical sid...

My sister started taking synbicort months ago, at first she was losing her voice, now she is slurring. ## Hello, Stephanie! How is your sister? The hoarseness can be normal, when someone first starts using such a medication. However, the slurring is a concern and is something that should be checked out by her doctor. It may be nothing, or it could be due to something serious like a stroke. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly include dizziness, headache, nervousness and mood changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## She is doing good. She stopped using it for a few days, voice sounds better. She told dr. He wasnt concerned. Thanks. I appreciate your reply.

After taking Symbicort for about six weeks, I had a night of terrible calf cramps which were so severe that I developed a bruise on my upper calf. I have also developed boil-like lesions under my arm and on my chin. I did not relate it at first to taking Symbicort, but called the doctor and he took me off Symbicort. Are these side effects unusual for taking Symbicort? ## Symbicort contains a steroid, so yes, it can cause such side effects. But the cramps you experienced seem to have been rather extreme and more intense. It's likely your doctor didn't want you to have to keep dealing with that misery. Are you on any other medications? Has the acne started clearing up, yet?

I was on Advair for years and then I slowly weaned myself off it with the permission of my doctor. After almost a year of not taking it though, it turns out that I have a low wheeze and I did notice that some physical activities were more difficult. My doctor prescribed Symbicort and the first 3 days it made me really constipated. That got sorted out and I noticed that I was able to breathe easier during certain physical activities. It's now been about 3 weeks and I'm dizzy and lightheaded and my anxiety has ramped up ALOT. Since Advair was working before I stopped taking it I'm not sure why I was prescribed Symbicourt. I want to stop taking it and go back to Advair. How long do I have to wait before taking the Advair? ## Hi SuperGurl007! B 4 switching medications, b sure yo...

I am noticing a weight gain since I have been on spriva. I have also been given symbicort and am concerned about weight gain with it also. Is there any thing I can take for stage 2copd that isn't going to make me gain weight. ## Hello, Sue! How are you? I am very sorry about the weight gain, I know that is very frustrating. Unfortunately, it's a side effect of almost all of these types of medications, usually due to the steroids used in them and, sometimes, the antihistamines. Do you make sure to get as much exercise as you can? Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? They may have other ideas that could help.

What is a good substitute for Symbicort for Copd that has fewer side effects and more effective? ## There's really no way to know ahead of time how you might react or respond to any particular medication. Doctors can only "assume" that it will work well based on several individual factors (i.e. medical records, health, age, weight, diet, whether or not your taking anything else with it, etc). However, other people have suggested trying Advair as a closer alternative to Symbicort for Copd. Potential side effects and overall efficacy may be topics that you should ask your doctor's opinion on, since he or she at least knows your medical history and other personal information to back up their claims. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Advair Details I hope th...

I have had cluster headaches for about 20 years, and was recently prescribed Symbicort for asthma. I just began taking it, and am getting severe headaches in the same area of my clusters. Are there any contraindications against taking Symbicort if you have clusters. The Symbicort is greatly helping with the asthma, but the headaches are terrible. ## I didn't find anything stating that it was contraindicated, but it can cause headaches as a side effect. Learn more Symbicort details here. Do you take anything for the headaches? ## I never had headaches until I started taking Symbicort, now I have one every day! So painful at time, I actually cried.

If I sit for any length of time then stand up I have stand still for a bit before I start to walk, and walking or standing for to long makes it worse, seems it hurts all the time now. I called my Dr. today after reading this forum as I see others have experiened joint problems as well. The office assistant who aswered said she heard some layers talking about this side effect, but not many experience these side effects, waiting for a call back. I'm going to see of I can use the proventil inhaler alone instead or maybe there is an alternate to Symbicort I can try. Either way I'm not going to let this immobalize me my a...

uses of semico tablet ## Hi bing, Unfortunately I can't find any information about a semico tablet, could you possibly have meant Symbicort? According to Symbicort's website, it is medication for the treatment of asthma for people 12 years and older whose doctor has determined that their asthma is not well controlled with a long term asthma control medicine (such as an inhaled corticosteroid), or whose asthma is severe enough to begin treatment with Symbicort.
