Switching From Pristiq To Generic Desvenlafaxine (Page 2)

Updated

I was switched from Pristiq to generic Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) which if I understand right, is really Effexor. Is there a possibility this could be causing my severe fatigue? Has this happened to anyone else out there?

I was very fatigued when on the generic for sure - I believe it was from the meds.

Kate - try going to the website for Pristiq. There is a card you can get to help lower the cost. I've used that and it really helped lower the cost. Hopefully it will help you, too. Good luck!

Yes, definitely a solution! Request GREEN STONE LTD LABS Generic, that's Pfizer/Wyeth company push their Brand Name Pristiq + Effexor through it as "Generic" and at Generic prices and it's 100% genuine original Brand Name. Just paid $10 for 1 month at Costco for it.

I have been on brand name Pristiq but just
switched to the generic due to to high price. I am super nauseated, dizzy with a terrible headache. Exactly like I felt when I first started the brand name.
I hope my body adjusts- its only been 3 days.

K2SO, so you are saying that the Greenstone Lab generic is actually the same thing as the name brand Pfizer Pristiq? If so, I will request the generic through them!!!!

Hello,
Yes, absolutely! It is 100% Brand Name Pristiq with the W-50 imprint on the pink pyramid tablet. It's refered to as an "Approved Generic". Greenstone should be easy to get, Costco can get it as well as CVS/Target. I was so relieved to find they had done this as the Lupin version from India was the least Bio-equivalent drug I had ever experienced, they created some form of Venlafaxine but not the "DesVenlafaxine" which is Pristiq. This should keep us in good shape until "AnsoFaxine" is released, it's a new version of Venlafaxine that hits Sera, Nora & Doe at the same time with even less side effects!

That's great to know! Is it easy to get a pharmacy to order a specific manufacturer for a generic?

My insurance switched me from Pristiq to the so-called generic. It's been a month and I can hardly function. I'm sleeping 12 or more hours a day and am severely depressed. My husband and doctor worked with the insurance and finally got them to allow me to go back on the Pristiq at the original deductible amount. It took many phone calls and paperwork. I start back on the Pristiq tonight.

K2SO, thank you SO MUCH for all your help!! I ordered the Greenstone generic Pristiq through CVS and just got it! I can't thank you enough for your help!! For those of you in the same boat, you can call your pharmacy and request that your generic Pristiq come from Greenstone, it's easy and straightforward and the same cost as any other generic!

I am so glad to see that it's not just my imagination about my symptoms coming back. I was switched from Pristiq to Desvenlafax and I have been on the 100 mg all along, even on the Pristiq. I remember on time being without the Pristiq for a few days and the withdrawal symptoms were horrible. Well now I'm having some of those same symptoms on the generic. Like a swishing in my head and feeling "dizzy" is the only way to describe it. Like a pressure. It's very frightening. I also have been very very tired very easily and have had very bad increasing depressive episodes with no external causes. I am going to call my doctor Monday.

Absolutely agree with you. I was switched to the generic of Pristiq about 40 days ago. Slowly I relapsed into depression. They increased the dosage of the generic from 50 to 100 mg. I tried that for 12 days. It did not work! I have extreme fatigue, numbness and a decreased libido. I went to my doctor yesterday. I started the real thing again (Pristiq) today. 100 mg to start. I'm praying to God that I start to feel like I once did. Generics don't work for everyone!

This generic from Breckinridge did not help me. I was on Pristiq for 5 years. My insurance company switched me to the generic. It has been awful. About 52 days have passed. The side effects have been horrible and I've slipped back into a depression. I had a doctor appt. yesterday and am switching back to Pristiq.

Did you read the posts below? You can get brand name Pristiq through their GREEN STONE LTD as a generic for generic prices! It's the same exact brand name just repacked with having to get insurance approval or pay $386/month. Mine was $10 at Costco.
And yes, the generics for this are not bio equivalent. It's still many years before this goes off patent and even then, they will not release the method of obtaining DesVenlafaxine synthetically nor will they reveal their proprietary tablet release formula which is why it will never compare to the original.

Thanks for posting. I have the same insurance. Just got the news that I had to pay $500 for 90 days vs. $12 for Pristiq (I had the mfg. coupon). The depression hits hard a few times a week now. It is awful considering I work hard and pay for insurance. I'm going to call and see if I can get back on pristiq.

I doubled my dose and feel better. I weaned myself to 50 mg of pristine but had to take my full RX strength of the generic (Lupin). I'm less fatigued and don't feel like killing myself after just a few days.

You can always request GreenStone Brand which is the only Authorized Generic. It's actually Brand Name Pristiq repackaged as generic through their daughter company. Then you only pay generic price for ??% Brand Name. Just request your pharmacy order the approved generic by GREEN STONE LTD and you won't have to worry or deal with inferior brands.

I have taken Pristiq for years. I just started taking the generic. I find that it is not as strong so I get teary and it doesn't last for the whole day.

Not all pharmacies will order a specific one for you. According to my doctor, CVS - at least around here - just orders what's cheapest for them and doesn't take special requests.

Wow, I'm so glad to see this. I have been on the Breckinridge pharmaceuticals generic for Pristiq and I'd might as well be taking M & Ms. My depression has been well under control for about 10 years until now, I didn't even recognize that it was depression until I took a depression evaluation test. I'm bursting out crying, very hopeless, so tired I can hardly function and out of breath even though I workout 4 times a week. I'm switching back to the name brand tomorrow. Frankly, I can't wait to see those expensive little square pills again! :)
