I've been taking Sulfasalazine for 3 weeks (500 mg 4x daily). The side effects are very wearing: nausea, low energy, sleepiness, general feeling of blahhhhhh. I make sure to eat before taking the pills, and I drink at least 8 oz of water with the pills. Any suggestions on how to minimize these side effects? I'm hoping my body will adjust in time. Any thoughts - anyone??? ## Unfortunately, there really isn't much you can do to prevent them, but yes, they should taper off and eventually go away entirely, once your body gets used to the medication, according to FDA reports. Generally that takes anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks. You may also experience fever, chills, dark urine, nosebleeds, and pale skin. Has there been any change or improvement, yet? ## Has anyone had any success usi...

if i'm allergic to sulfasalazine and smz-tmp can i take neomycin. I have a total colectomy scheduled for Monday Dec 1, 2014 and I am suppose to start on the neomycin and metronidazole on tomorrow. i am terrified that I will have the horrific reactions that I had in the past with sulfasalazine and smz-tmp if I take this new prescription Please help if u have the knowledge. Thanks so much ## @Marvin, I would try to get a second opinion on this from your doctor, but from what I can tell, if you are allergic to both SMZ-TMP + Sulfasalazine, it's possible that Neomycin Sulfate may cause a similar type of allergic reaction. There are different types of sulfa/sulfonamide-related allergies that may not pose the same risks as others, but being allergic to both types I wouldn't even w...

I am currently experiencing an adverse reaction to the Sulfametazol (Sepran) tablet. A few years ago, my doctor advised me to avoid all sulfur group medicines. I'm considering taking Sazo tablets, which contain Sulfasalazine as an active ingredient. Could you please advise if I could potentially have any reactions if I take this medication? Thank you for your help. ## Hello, Arun! How are you? Yes, it may cause you to have an adverse reaction, since it is also in the sulfa group. Reactions to sulfa medications tend to worsen with time and exposure, which could put you in greater danger. Have you consulted your doctor? It would be best to do so in order to find out what medication you can safely take.

I am taking sazo 2000 regular for RA. Now feeling acute acidity and a bad smell always coming from stomach preferably moring, evening and when taking wheat product. ## Hi, Bapi! That can happen with excess acidity and having the issue with wheat products means you may be gluten intolerant. What type of testing has your doctor done? The Sulfasalazine in the Sazo could be contributing to the problem, since it is known to cause gastric upset and distress. Learn more Sazo details here. Have you consulted your doctor about it? Markings are on one side. There is what looks like a backwards G and a 500 ## Hi Travis, I located an orange pill marked G 500 on one side; but it is noted to be round and not oval. There is also a score line on the backside of the pill. The "G" is a bit more indented into the pill than the number "500". It is identified as Sulfasalazine 500 mg. Sulfasalazine is mainly used for treatment of inflammatory bowel disease, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. It is also effective in several types of arthritis, particularly rheumatoid arthritis. Does this sound like a possible match? I can provide more details on it if need be.
