Sulfamethoxazole Trimethoprim Ds

I started taking Sulfameth Trimethoprim DS 24 hours ago. It is making me very sleepy, dizzy and slightly nauseated. Is this normal? I'm taking it for a urinary tract infection and I didn't feel this bad before taking this medication! Will it have this effect for 7 days or will I get used to it? I didnt go to work today, but can't afford to lay around for a week. Can somebody please tell me if they have this reaction and what did you do about it ?

This med makes me sick. I wake up and I feel sick going to bed I feel sick. I'm using it to treat a boil. Its helping but the loss of appetite is true. I can't afford to lose another pound. I'm tired of feeling sick. I think I should stop taking it.

Was put on SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 tab Interpharm for infection in toe. Am diabetic. 2nd day I was on it, I came down with severe neck pain, from base of skull radiating into shoulders. I can't turn my head at all. Went off the med two days ago and the pain is worse, not better. I am very frightened. What can I do?

Drowsiness, dizziness and nausea can all be normal side effects of most antibiotics. They should taper off, as you finish your course of treatment with them. If they do not, or are extremely severe, than please contact your doctor.

Virginia, what you have experienced is not normal and you should contact your doctor. If you stopped the medication and are still having the problem, then there is a good chance that it has been caused by something else.

I started taking SULFAMETHOXAZOLE-TMP DS TABLET for 9 days now and now I have about 10 sores on my tongue I have one that is large and causing me to not be able to eat very well. Is this the cause of my problem ?

Don, have you consulted your doctor?

In a large number of cases when someone is on an antibiotic and gets sores in their mouth like you describe, it is due to the development of oral thrush, which is a yeast infection.

If that's what it is, it will require an antifungal medication to clear it up.

I did go to the doctor and he have me a mouth wash (hydrocort/nystgatin) which seems to be helping. Thank you for your reply.

I amtaking it for Urinary infection and i am 3 days into a 10 day regimen, the one i take at night causes my heart to palpitate and i am gittery, don't sleep sell and when i get up i have nausea, my stomac hurts....... I don't know if I can keep taken this and i feel i have no choice as this bacteria is wicked and won't go away, i have had it since end of January with a break of 8 days before it was back. I wasn't taking enough days the first time and tried to tell the PA but she didn't listen and here i am :( I feel worse than before i was taken it, all thoses side affects!?

I finished my med about 3 to 4 days ago, the lower back pain stopped but i still have a little stomach pain, diarrhea and I still haven't gotten back my appetite yet and i am still gittery. How long does it take for the med to be out of your system and for me to get my appetite back and start to feel normal again? Because I had read that the med can cause a slowing of metabolism that result in low energy. Please help me, I don't like this feeling.

I am a type 2 diabetic. I think this anti-biotic is making me feel sick. I am taking Victoza infections for my diabetes and that usually makes me not have an appetite, but this makes me have to lay down off and on all day. If this is what it is like to get rid of a urinary tract infection, I think I would rather keep it instead of this. Is there anything you can take to ease some of this nausea? I have 5 more days of taking two of these a day. HELP!

i have had all these along with severe pain from right below my stomach to my pelvis, bloating, blood underneath the skin on my arm, ringing in my ears and being jittey. It has been so bad tat I could not sleep for two nights. I cut my dose in half and it was better for half a day, then a half hour after taking the next half dose, the side effects came back worse. After the firsxt day, I called my nurse practitioner and she said it was okay, to keep taking the drugs. It was worse that night and I talked to the pharmacist who said, yes, it was the drugs and suggested half doses. There are other meds that do the same thing without such bad side effects. Cipro, Levaquin, Macrobid and sulfa without the addition of trimethoprim. this last one my have to be gotten from a compounding pharmacy. This infor is from the pharmacist. I will talk to nurse tomorrow and not take the med tonight. I haven't even gotten the results of the culture yet, so she just went on the look of my urine to decide it was an infection.

I am also experincing side effects from sulfamethoxazole/Trimethoprim. The doctor say for me to take a pill twice a day(for 7days) for infection possiblly bladder, now Im experiencing heavy sleepiness,dizziness,an my heart racing fast.Is this dangerous for me? I have already kidney diesease,high blood pressure,chronic pancreatitis wich causes me to hav a condition called Hypoglycemia so when my sugar is to low I get heavy sleepiness. So im like really sleepy bad, is this safe for me to continue to take??? I am scared I will end up in a coma..:( the doctor who prescribe this antibotic is not my regular doc..what do you suggest???

Well, the bleeding in my arm has never stopped. My dr. Says I have phlebitis from the Bactrim and prescribed a blood thinner which made me even sicker. It's been 5 months since I took Bactrim and still the problem!

I have been on trimethiprim for a week, I have felt so ill since I started taking it, my head has been pounding for days. I stopped taking them today I feel so ill and lethargic and my head has been pounding for days, my doctor didnt seem to be worried about my symptoms even though I broke down on the phone. I feel like I have been fobbed off.

I am taking Bactrim and on two occasions I became dizzy momentarily. I have been taking it for one week. Is this a normal reaction to Bactrim? Feel some weakness after the very brief session with dizziness.

Trimethoprim 2 times daily for uti, it's made me really tired and gave me anxiety and general down feeling but it's better than taking ciproflocacin as that stuff is dangerous and evil with permanent damage

Hello, I have been dating my boyfriend for seven months. Today was our first time having intercourse. I didn't protect myself and later found out he was taking this drug. He has several bottles of it so I'm guessing he's been taking it for a while and multiple times. Because he's been keeping it secret I'm worried that he could have some type of sickness or disease he's not telling me about. What is this medication used for?

If he's been taking it for a long time, he isn't sick. If you take this for infections you would take it very short term.

It is used to treat acne. Most likely that is what he has and he doesn't want to tell you.

You're having a reaction to the antibiotic. I was taking the same thing but for a spider bite.
After 5 days The fever started, felt dizzy and weak, my glands were tender. This is my third day off work. It's so debilitating. I keep popping Tylenol/Ibuprofen for these fevers I'm having. I'm weaning myself off it, but in the meantime I have to put up with the aide effects.
