Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, commonly prescribed under the brand name Bactrim, is an antibiotic that is used to treat several different kinds of infections.

Have you consulted your doctor?

It isn't listed as being known to cause flare ups of gout, but it is impossible to really say how any medication is going to affect any person that uses it.

One side effect it can cause, is peripheral neuropathy, which is a type of nerve damage. Therefore, it is very important to consult your doctor to determine what exactly is causing your pain. You may need to switch to a different antibiotic.
