Sulfameth Trimethoprim 800-160 And Small Red Whelts

I took my first dose of this medication 30 minutes ago. I itch all over and have small red welts like a bite. Is this a side affect? If so will it go away?

This sounds more like an allergic reaction, what you are describing sounds like hives and that means that this may not be the right antibiotic for you to use.

You should talk to your doctor about trying a different medication.

I finished a course of Trimethoprim 6 days ago and my U/A has some blood but no sign of infection. If an infection develops quickly can I take Trimethoprim tablets even though the expiration date was Feb 2017? Will an expired antibiotic increase my risk of side effects?
