Suboxone Too Strong...need Advice

Updated

I have been prescribed Vicodin for the last 7 years by the same Dr for a back injury that occurred when I was struck by a car. I recently (three weeks ago) decided that I wanted to stop taking the Vicodin because I saw myself taking too many to get the pain to go away. So at that time I began to taper off the pills and made an appointment with a psychiatrist that could prescribe Suboxone if that was the final decision because I was very afraid of withdrawals. (Back up a little in the story) about four months ago I was taking approx 8-10 Vicodin a day and when I tapered off I was down to two a day and had been for about 2-3 weeks. So when I talked to the psychiatrist he prescribed 4mg (or a half of a tablet) twice a day. I waited until I began feeling some withdrawals and I took the Suboxone. I was afraid of taking this medicine so I took only 1/4 of the pill. I am now really shaky, sweating, and feel higher than I have ever felt in my life. I don't know if I am over reacting with this symptom but I seem to feel like I have to think to breath if that makes any sense. So I am scared to go to sleep thinking that I may stop breathing. I don't know if this is me over reacting because of everything I read or if this is actually possible. I typically take Ativan at night (approx 3-4 mg in the evening first does of 2 mg at 7pm and another 1 or 2 mg at 10pm). I did not do this tonight because of the Suboxone but I did take it last night. I took the Suboxone at approx 8pm central time tonight. Any thoughts?

You should probably stop taking the suboxone. It's actually worse than just taking the 2 vicodin you were down to. I took subs for 6 months to get off of oxycodone and found out the hard way that the withdrawal lasts for a very long time. I'm talking 25 days completely sober and I'm still having withdrawal symptoms. go to this blog for more info about suboxone guineveregetssober.com. The only way off of opiates is to go through it. Don't fear the withdrawal if you really want sobriety. if I can endure this anyone can.

Suboxone is definitely the wrong choice here, it is a very strong opiate and is normally only used by people that have had a severe drug addiction problem and were using very high doses of narcotics.

Even at 8 to 10 pills a day of the Vicodin, you were nowhere near the amounts that most people take, before they are ever considered for Suboxone treatment.

I understand you are afraid of withdrawals, but if you have currently only been using 2 of the Vicodin a day, then you will not experience severe withdrawals.

Severe and dangerous withdrawals only occur when someone is using high dosages and stops abruptly, in those cases, the withdrawals can even be life threatening.

However, what you'll more than likely experience are a few days of feeling awful, with some rebound pain.

Actually, a Dr. Should determine the correct dosage. Even at 7-8 does per day, the body will go into withdrawal, causing the shaking and sweating.
1/4 of a sub tablet will not reduce withdrawal, thus the reasoning for the Dr. Prescribing the dosage did.
It is never a good idea to change the amount EVER without discussing with the provider, by taking more or less than recommended.

I am seeking help getting off of vicadins. I am currently taking between 7 & 10 through out the day. Two when I wake up and a couple every few hours equaling to 7-10 a day. When I try to stop I start withdrawing bad. I want to know about taking suboxen to just get through the nasty part so I can still function and go to work if need be because I can not afford to take time off work. My addiction not helping with my financial situation and I am ready to be free from feeling like a slave to my addiction. I have tried the Thomas method but my physical withdrawal is overwelming because I have to function everyday because people depend on me. I literally feel like I'm going to crawl out of my skin or rip my limbs off. I am completely embarrassed that I became addicted to vicadins & I'm desperate for any type of advice to get my health better. Please, any information or guidance would be a blessing. Thank you!

Hi T, I,m not a doctor but in my opinion you,d be better off tapering down your vicodan intake slowly if at all possible.
Suboxone can be a pain to get off if not done correctly.

{edited for privacy}. I have been clean and sober almost 3 years. I am Rx Tramadol 100 mg 3 times a day or 2 every 4-6 hours. I found myself having built up a tolerance and taking too much of the Tramadol to get the same relief. The only suggestion my Neurologist has had was switching me to a stronger narcotic. I am not willing to go that route due to my recovery. I understand Tramadol is a semi synthetic opioid and done plenty of research but still know in my heart of hearts that my mind is not all clouded on the Tramadol. I have fibromyalgia and other injuries. I am a ballerina and modern dancer, mother of 2 young children and the tramadol gives me enough relief to live a productive lifestyle. I attempted stopping the meds all together a few times with terrible results. The most recent was switching to Suboxone and it has been the worst 2 days of my life in recovery. Yuck I can not even handle a quarter of one with out puking and I am like a vegetable. Opinion please...too ill to type more. Thanks!

I am taking 10 mg suboxine internally I still need it to clear off of being dependent on oxycontin. I didn't take it yesterday and today I took it but it made me very weak almost as if I am going to faint and anxious. Is this because of missing a dose or do I have to reduce the dose?

I need real answers about Suboxone! Please help I've been going in and out of clean to dope for a few days then horrible withdrawals and I just want it to stop! I got some more sub, but I'm wondering, after using for for a couple days then some norco's to curb withdrawals till I got the Suboxone. So, do I have to wait until way later tonight even though I feel bad right now, or can I take them earlier? I know with dope you have to wait a full 24 hours, but since the Norco are so weak, I figure I can take them earlier? I've heard of people taking it just six hours after and be fine or even 12 hours would be good for me it's already been that long. I hope to hear from you fast!
