Strattera And Concerta Meds, Please Help!

Updated

I have a almost 8 yr old daughter and she is on Strattera and now Concerta. I'm worried (if it is true) you need to be tested by professionals to be diagnosed with ADHD, and that she should have her liver checked? I feel this medication causes her not to eat and become a zombie. She seems to keep to herself. I feel that her condition is because she feels our divorce and all the problems that go with it. Could anyone help me please? Thank you.

try just going to a shrink, she may not even need meds at all, just to talk to someone other than family. good luck

well i am a 15yr old highschool student and i have also be changed from stratera to concerta and with me i noticed that the concerta helps me with my adhd greatly better than the stratera and just from the fact that your daughter is how you said a zombie on the concerta tells me that she indeed has adhd or she would be the exact opposite so talk to ur docter to give her a lower dose so it duznt effect her as much so she can level out

Alex, TY but she is on both meds and since she has been on these meds this is what I experience with this. She has not been properly diagonised that she is ADHD, I feel she should have been seen by the right professionals I also feel alot of this and her problems are from the family problems.

I have a 11 year old daughter that is on 72 mg of concerta it works very well for her. I did notice when she was on addreall that she became very quite just like a zombie and that was when the meds were too strong. I would suggest that you have her talk to someone even if it is through family serivces. They could help too they also have the right doctors to diagonis ADAH. Hope that this helps.

My 7 year old son takes 54 mg Concerta and it is working, for now. In the past, his body built up a tolerance for the dosage so we had to increase it several times. The med affects his appetite and sleep so he is now also taking Risperdal to increase his appetite and make him drowsy. Both drugs carry heavy side effects and it was the hardest decision to make as a parent to medicate your child but I could no longer watch him fail socially and academicly. He still struggles with impulsivity and we will begin exploring Cognative Therapy, which will teach him tools to help control his behavior. Ask your doctor if it could help your child and research it on the web. No child is ever perfect. ;)

I've been on Concerta for most of my 16 years, and been on Strattera myself, having ADD, and i really didn't feel much of a difference between the two, but the Concert really helps me. i mean when i'm off, granted, i make like Pac Man; chomp chomp all the way, but the Concerta helps me.

I am a retired teacher who has seen so many children misdiagnosed has having ADHD. It has become the treat all answer all for children and the problems they may be having. Regarding getting the liver checked, that is a simple blood test, however for a child I am sure they wouldn't see it has simple. Have you done any reading about ADHD? Have you checked to see if there is a support group in your area for parents/children dealing with ADHS? Check it out- the school should know- especially the counselor or social worker there. If a child does not have ADHD, the misdiagnosis could be harmful in many ways. Contact the support group. They will know the best doctors and can help with many things.

My son is 13 and he was dignosed with ADHD when he was 9 and I do reconmend that you go to a Dr. that specilizes with ADHD. My son was also was on both of these drugs and they made him zombie like and no appite, Then the Dr. changed him to Adderall RX and this is the best med for he is a totally different child in a good way. He is now going to be 13 in April and doing wonderful on this med. Maybe it is something you would want to talk to your Dr. about. Good luck I know how it is to worry about your child talking this kind og meds

Things like divorce are traumatic to a child. They are struggling with alot inside and don't even know how to put it into words, so often it shows up in their behavior. I've been where you are. I was divorced when my daughter was 7 and shortly thereafter she began having trouble in school. I didn't know anything about alternative medicine at the time so she was put on ritalin. In a few months I took her off and started some herbal remedies. The school nurse and her teachers were amazed. She was on the honor roll from 4th grade thru graduation. We both had to work hard on her studies, physical health, and most importantly her emotional health. She is in her 2nd year of college now and when she seems to be getting overwhelmed I encourage her to take her herbal products I sent along, but she says mom, I need to work thru this myself. I feel that not just medicating her all those years with ritalin taught her to be a hard worker, diciplined, determined, and gave her a sense of control, something I think she so desperately needed. There are alot of natural products out there that will support brain function as well as the nervous system. This was the path we chose and I am thankful we did.

Quit over-medicating your children people. They are young and will be fine without it.
