Stop Taking Micardis

Updated

I take Micardis 40gm twice a day for many years, upon drop down blood pressure and doctor recommendation I reduce to one tablet and then to just one half tablet and then I stopped Mircardis completely after my reading become lowest 107/66. About 5 months no Micardis and BP is normaly, suddenly my reading increased and become 172/115, I suspect I eat too much salt from drinking bottled water I use in my home. Then I took Micardis again one tablet and then reduce to one half for about one month and then stopped, after 12 days of stopping my reading increased slowly for five days and yesterday become 172/105, now I have some headache in both left brain and eye. Yesterday and today I toke half tablet of Micarids and reading look noraml today.

The reason I want to stopped Micardis because of side effect, which mostly depression and weak muscle, and also my lower BP. Half tablet every day sound ok, but I want to stop Micardis completely. Is there alternative I can make? And what I suppose to do now with Micardis dosages?

Hello, Neion! How are you?

Unless you're going to keep your salt intake extremely low and keep getting lots of exercise, it is likely that your blood pressure will keep rising, whenever you stop the medication. There is no cure for high blood pressure, it must be managed, either through diet and exercise, through medications, or a combination of all of these options, as explained by the NIH.

If a half tablet works for you and your doctor approves, there is no problem taking that low of a dosage.

You could also ask your doctor about trying a different medication.

Do you take any other medications? What types of foods do you normally eat? How much exercise do you usually get?

Thank you Verwon for reply.

Yes I'm taking other medications, Lipanthyl 145mg to treat Triglyceride (recently I started taking one every other day to lower side effects), and B complex to treat side effects from Micardis and Lipanthyl. Sometimes i take Duspatalin retard 200mg and Zantac to treat my IBS or stomach flare. As for food, mostly i eat vegetarian and chicken and no salt at all. As for exercise, almost every day sometimes exercise bike for half hour, and walking for hour. I can make these exercises at highest intensity for long time without any heart problem, as matter of fact my feet get injured from high intensity.

Since this Feb, I'm back again to Micardis 40mg twice, I did this by myself without doctor recommendation (could be wrong). However, recently my doctor notice my BP reading is low and suggested one 40mg only (started this month). Also he noticed from the reading (and others as well) my increase in high BP could be from other causes, not heart related. I also have IBS or constipation or bloating in my stomach all the time.

Now I'm investigating if the cause of my high BP in past could be from a stomach condition, because before i had Angina symptoms the doctor gave me Angised Glyceryl Trinitrate but when i see all my diagnostics: exercise, sonar and nuclear inj., everything looks 100% normal except I'm swollen in my abdomen or stomach area. I also learned some people took BP medication mistakenly and later they diagnose with constipation.

I wonder if i have a similar case, can i stop Micardis completely and how I can know if my BP condition is not related to the heart?
Thank you for your answer.
