Starting Suboxone Tomorrow Morning - Induction

Updated

I finally have an Induction appointment to start Suboxone Treatment. I had an "Orientation" appointment today which is just signing all the papers an learning about Suboxone Treatment. When I was leaving my appointment today, they scheduled me an appointment for tomorrow (Friday) to see the Doctor for Induction at 10:40am. I later called the Suboxone Clinc Office where I was at and asked them how long my appointment should take because my fiancé works so I have to have my brother take me. They told me they couldn't say for sure. I asked them if they could give me an estimate, would it take 1 hour or 2-3 hours? They told me it would definitely not take 2-3 hours, and they said it would probably only take around 20 minutes. ?? Oh and when I left the office I asked the woman if I needed to be in withdrawal for my appointment and she said yes. And the papers I have from that clinic say that I need to be at least at a 12 on the COWS sheet to be able to start Suboxone. Also the papers say "On the day of your induction you will receive a prescription for Suboxone" and it tells me how to take it. I have heard of a few people that were in and out on their Induction appointment and the Doctor wrote them a prescription and had them start the Suboxone when they got home. But most people I hear that Suboxone Induction takes 2-4 hours and the doctor starts their suboxone dose in the doctors office. What do you think this will mean for my appointment tomorrow? I can't call an ask because their office is closed now and my appointment is in like 14 hours. Will I most likely start my Suboxone at home? Have you experienced something similar when you started Suboxone?? I would really like to know what to expect tomorrow morning. Any info would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Some sub Drs induce in office so they can guage your wd symptoms to get a more precise dosing that you need but if they told you it would only take 20 minutes, my guess is they will simply write you a script and send you on your way. And YES, you definitely have to be in withdrawal. Once you take the sub it will go away within minutes and you'll feel great. Withdrawing sucks but hang in tere tomorrow and you'll be thankful for it but lunchtime. I was on subs for 3 years so I know this with experience. I've seen people take subs when they're not in WDs yet and it's not pretty. The rule that I lived by when inducing on subs is this: "the worse you feel when you take it, the better you'll feel after, the better you feel when you take it, the worse you'll feel after." Trust me on this. And if you've never taken subs before, get ready for a great day tomorrow! The first couple of days, the high is awesome. It only lasts for 2-3 days then you won't feel it anymore but the first dose is like taking a handful of Percs with no crash for 18 hours. Plan to be productive and good luck on your road to recovery!

Thank you for your reply! I am about 24 hours since I had any narcotics. I have 2 more hours until my appointment. Im nervous but happy to be starting this so I can focus on getting off the drugs and getting my life in order. I have had a rough past and I'm tired of being "stuck" in old habits. The lady on the phone at the Medical Department at the clinic said my appointment should only take about 20 minutes so my guess is that they send you home to start you Rx. I will update this post when I get home after my appointment. Thank you!

Good luck and keep me posted! I was on subs for 3 years so there isn't much that I haven't experienced with them. If you have any questions or comments don't hesitate to ask! Ill help any way I can.

So I had my appointment. It went really well. I sat in the waiting room for about 45 minutes but once I went back to see the Doctor it only took about 15 minutes. They wrote me a prescription to fill for one weeks worth, taking only 1 8 mg per day to try for the first week. She was nice and very understanding about the whole process!

How is the suboxone working for you so far? You seem to have the right attitude about being sober so I think you're on the right track. Suboxone can be a life saver when it comes to breaking the mental habits of addiction and getting a normal life back but keep in mind, it is still a very powerful opiate. Stick to your prescribed dose and follow a detailed taper schedule otherwise suboxone can become just as nasty as the drugs that you are trying to get away from. And taper as low as possible before stopping. I had tapered down to 1mg a day. The piece of pill was so small I wasn't even sure it was being absorbed by my body so when I stopped I thought it would be a piece of cake. I couldn't have been more wrong. I went through almost 2 weeks of intense physical WDs and I'm still dealing with some lingering WDs and PAWS symptoms after nearly 60 days clean. I'm not saying that to scare you, just want you to be aware of how strong they really are. I wish I had known that when I started on them 3 years ago. I would've stayed on them for a shorter time frame and tapered lower if I knew what I was in store for. After a few days the high from them wears off as the naloxone builds up in your body and its easy to forget that it is still a strong opiate (I've been told 2mgs is = to 50 mgs oxycodone by a Dr). It also has a long half life and that can be deceiving as well. I remember after skipping a dose and feeling fine I thought I was good to go when in reality it takes 2-3 days before WDs fully set in after stopping subs. Listen to your Dr, be smart with them, don't under estimate their strength and be proactive in your recovery and you'll be fine. Congrats again! Sobriety can be a scary decision but its a great one!

It's working well! I only took 4mg today. I felt fine. Had slight headache and on and off muscle aches here and there but I kept myself busy all day. I have had a good day, no cravings. I go to therapy Monday morning and see the Doctor on Wednesday. I feel good about this and I know I can do it! I'm nervous but one time I got sober on my own (with the help of my fiancé) and I stayed sober for over 3 months. Turned away pills when offered to me and everything so I remember that wonderful feeling! I want this soo bad! I want to live a normal and sober life! Thank you again for your concern and support! It's great getting on and seeing all the support from people on here and other websites like this one! :)
