Splitting Avinza

Updated

I was taking 90 mg cap x 1 a day. Was switched to 45 mg 2 x a day. Can I just take unused 90 mg & separate evenly ? Even though time release type the spit can't be that much different in quantity. Half is half.

Saw earlier that to dangerous to split but don't understand why it would be, especially if you're only actually taking a total of 90 mg a day.
Thanks for any thoughts on this

Because cutting, crushing or splitting time released tablets or capsules could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once. In this case, it may not all be evenly spread throughout and the outer coating could actually be vital to the time released mechanism.

No, I understand that in your case, it may not make as big of a difference, since you were taking 90mgs at once, but doing so can be very dangerous to people that aren't used to such a high dosage.

And, even in your case, it could mean that you get one dose that's perhaps 60mgs and then your next one is only 30mgs, or any variation thereof.

Have I explained clearly? If not, please let me know and I'll gladly find you some more information on it. I can sometimes be a bit confusing. :-)

Appreciate your helpful reply. What I'm getting from your answer is that all of the little beads in the capsule may not be evenly coated with the same substance.Right? Thanks again.

Verwon, I'm going up & down on dosage (all legal with scripts from PM clinic). At present taking 30 mg x2 a day Avinza. What is the difference between 2 caps 30 each or 1 cap 60 ? Previous step went down from the 90 -1 a day to 2 - 45's. Tried to go to 75 instead of 60 because
Thought dropping 30 mg would be too big a drop . Couldn't convince the Dr though. He insisted going to the 2- 30's. Really hope he will make next drop to 45 not 30 at least just yet. Goal is to get to 0 a day & just get by on the Endocet but trying to do with easier wd.

Appreciate your help.
