Sober For The First Time In My Adult Life At 40, A Little Scary...
UpdatedI have been addicted to mostly everything from a to z dependent on availability of course. Recently turned the big 40 & have decided if I'm ever going to be 100% sober before my number is called, it must be now. I have left the all the "hard" items in the past, gave up drinking approx. 4 years ago, stopped refilling certain rx's, broke that last cig almost 3 months ago now. That I never thought I would really ever do esp. being a 25 yr smoker. Leaving the nose candy, the rave meds, the dones & roxys, years later eventually the booze, few more years pass the smokes.... Oh cant forget the 7 years I spent each day with my xanax..no more. I now only need to say farewell to my recent significant other of last 6 years, Suboxone. Once this is done I will be truly, for the first time since..... sixth grade maybe, that I can say once again (truthfully anyways) I am completely sober & without any substance legal or illegal inside my being.
Sad truth to it is, the fact I'm as scared as a newborn baby at the mere thought. How will I feel, how will I act & behave once sober? 40 years & that feeling is if it never existed, i cannot think back that far back & recall who and what I was last time this were true. Basically it along with all that goes with it will be an all new experience, terrifying at that. Basically I just wanted to throw this out here to see if there are those who have been here & have taken their last step to complete sobriety and wouldn't mind sharing what it has been like so far on their journey. If an offering of wise words, advice, do's and don'ts is given I would greatly appreciate & pay full attention to all who may. As of this posting i'm looking at a little under 60 days before proceeding on myself so if no replies between then and now I will make a point to offer my best input to all of my responses from earlier. Just remember 1 day at a time, you are never alone, nothing is impossible....
