Side Effects Of Breo Ellipta

Updated

I was given a sample of breo ellipta for bronchitis.. just bronchitis. I was on it for 2 days when I ended up in the hospital for severe heart palpitations, chest pain, dizziness, loss of taste.. I completely felt out of it. Elevated blood glucose and low potassium. I was told I was having a bad reaction to the steroid and it would take a few weeks. The heart palpitations and dizziness still come and go but are getting less intense. Panic attacks and depression are still rearing their ugly head. Has this happened to anyone? How long could this possibly take to go away? I have no previous health issues. 32 year old female in good health... So frustrated at this point. They gave me a holter monitor to wear for 2 weeks that I take off and mail back tomorrow. I'm afraid at this point it has thrown my heart rhythm out of wack... But like I said it has gotten less frequent and less intense but still happening. I've been to the ER 4 times.. no heart attack.

How are you doing, now?

Unfortunately, those can be side effects of any steroid class medication, according to FDA reports, you may also experience mood changes, weight changes, and fluid retention.

Are you on any other medications? Did the monitor show anything?

I have had vertigo/feeling like I am on a boat, panic attacks, trembling, cold and Hot spells, and crying spells. I’ve been to an ENT, having mri tomorrow, and seen a cardiologist. Currently wearing a monitor. These panic attacks are paralyzing and I am truly scared. I started on Breo about 2 months ago and I’m wondering if this is the cause. I am 44yo female. I’m hyper sensitive to medications and trying to research everything. Can you tell me how long it took for the panic attacks to go away after stopping Breo? Hope you’re doing better.

I'm sorry to say this but I was only on it for 2 days and it took close to 8 weeks for it all to completely go away. I definitely had all the side effects you named and my doctor told me I was reacting badly to the medication. I never had a true panic attack before this in my life and I'm still having horrific anxiety and panic attacks. My doctor told me once the body responds that way it is quick to respond like that again. I had a multitude of side effects with that medication and have since learned I am also hypersensitive. My pulmonary doctor completely wrote me off. It took my PCP and seeing a psychiatrist and them working together to get to the bottom of it because it TOOK SO LONG TO GO AWAY! I am no longer having the palpitations but my first initial ER visit, I seriously thought I was going to die the palpitations, dizziness, shortness of breath was so bad. I didn't know exactly what was wrong, but it was the palpitations and tachycardia. My heart rate was shooting up to near 200. I've had an echocardiogram and heart monitor, all showed no actual problems with my heart. It was completely med induced. I was also taking a zpak which made everything worse because it causes QT prolongation... Which in turn can cause ventricular arrythmias.

My ***** Primary Care just prescribed the Breo inhaler for me. I've been having increasing breathing problems since starting on Eliquis a few months ago. I have a history of shortness of breath due to whooping cough since I was a small child. But, NEVER, EVEN LIVING IN POLLUTED CHICAGO AND INDIANAPOLIS, HAVE I HAD THE KINDS OF ISSUES I'M DEALING WITH NOW!!! Eliquis is pretty self explanatory. Supposed attack of A-FIb. An immediate decision to do the Eliquis AND A HEART ABLATION, with no more investigation into background health. No Ablation. Not yet, maybe not ever. It's been 6 mos and I'm still alive. But, HOW LONG?? SURE I MIGHT DIE OF A STROKE, MIGHT. BUT I SURE AS HECK WILL DIE IF I CAN'T BREATHE!!! I'M ON 5 TYPES OF MEDS TO CONTROL HEART RATE AND BP. ALL OF THEM CAN CAUSE RESPIRATORY DISTRESS. SOME, HEADACHES, HIGH OR LOW BLOOD SUGAR (I'M DIABETIC), ANXIETY, WEAKNESS, VISION PROBLEMS, OH ENOUGH ALREADY YOU GET THE PICTURE.

So yesterday I go to my PC and what does she do? Stop Arnuity Ellipta, a steroid. Start Breo, a steroid. Duh?? Mentions three meds I take in conjunction with my reason to visit. SHORTNESS OF BREATH!! But, doesn't go into the fact that these meds also can contribute to SHORTNESS OF BREATH!! Do they read about the effects of these medications or do they just take the Pharmaceutical Salesmans word on it??? Now, I'm 70 and on SS, so, liking conspiracy theories, could this be a way to thin the aging population? Incompetence?? Indifference?? I'm getting to the point where I have NO TRUST IN ANYONE IN THE MEDICAL PROFESSION. AND, TO TOP IT OFF, MY CARDIOLOGIST WAS UPSET THAT I'M NOT GOING AHEAD WITH A CHEMICAL STRESS TEST TOMORROW!!

I THINK THAT IF I'M BREATHING POORLY, INCITING MY HEART TO EXPLODE "MIGHT" BE A PROBLEM. MAKES SENSE TO ME, BUT THEN, MY SENSE IS ONLY "COMMON SENSE." I LACK THE ADVANTAGES OF A COSTLY EDUCATION AND YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. YEAH. IT'S JUST "MY LIFE" WE'RE RISKING HERE. I'LL TAKE INSTINCT AND COMMON SENSE ANY DAY WHILE I SEARCH FOR A "TRUE" MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL. I WANT TO DIE NATURALLY, HOWEVER, NOT AS JUST ANOTHER UNFORTUNATE STATISTIC.

Re: Angie (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

I apologize, I literally just saw this. I hope you're doing better. I'm still having panic attacks. And those are all definate side effects of a steroid. Heart palps, moodstruck swings, anxiety/panic attacks and restlessness. I for one would never take it again. He gave it to me for "bronchitis" and the Z pak as mentioned above, which taking together can cause hell for a patient . I'm 33, no medical issues except for the occasional panic attack as mentoned previously. I meditate and do yoga, it helps. BUT still never had true panic attacks until that dang z pak and breo ellipta. That initial reaction and panic attack changed who I am, because I still struggle with them. I think drs need to be more careful, truly . Because they still keep trying to shove meds down my throat for the anxiety when really.. if I can catch the panic attack and calm myself down. I'm fine for the most part.
