Seconal (reds) Availability

Updated

I remember these from the 60s, when we took anything and everything. Now I'd just like to get some sleep that lasts for more than 5 minutes. My drug abuse as a teenager left me hypersensitive to most drugs, even OTC stuff. Something that works the first time is quickly ineffective and actually has the opposite effect: wide awake, wired, terrible waking nightmares. These new benzos gave the drug companies new products to patent, but are of little value for serious insomnia.

How about Placidyl? I couldn't think of the name until I read Steven Tyler's book, "Does the Noise in my Head Bother You?" Did this sleep med also get thrown on the scrap heap in favor of alprazolam and its mamby-pamby cousins?

Yeah, I remember the jelly reds and greens. Haven't heard anything about them lately but I remember that was all it did for me. Got no euphoric effects from it but slept real well.

Sorry to hear about your insomnia Ray. I know it happens to the best of us at some point or another LOL. Over the years, my fiance and I have been trying out a number of various things for insomnia and restlessness.. Here are a few ideas that brought us notable results either by themselves or in conjunction with one another: skullcap herb (which is supposed to help quiet the mind), valerian root (may be good for restless body movements), melatonin, magnesium, essential oils (i.e. lavender), kava kava extract, CBD's, medical marijuana, ashwaghanda, ginseng, breathing exercises/practicing mindfulness of breath, sleeping in a pitch black room (getting black out curtains), warm herbal tea before bedtime, etc... As you can see, we tried to take the natural route. But in my own personal experience, practicing the mindfulness of my breathing is what really provided me with the most lasting results for quieting my mind at night. I know what works for me doesn't always work for the next person, but just wanted to share this bit of information in case you're still looking and are open to some other options in the meantime...

Regarding the availability of Seconal and Placidyl, It's probably best to call a few local pharmacies in your area in order to see out if they have either of those medications in stock. I'm finding that product availability isn't always consistent from one pharmacy to another, even among those large chain stores with the same name.

Hope this helps!

They still make secinol and Placidyl both strong barbiturates but like Qualudes were way too dangerous for long term use. They discontinued Nembutals, Tuanols which were very strong barbiturates. Placidyl is extremely difficult to obtain, usually given to terminal patients. Remember chief justice Rehnquist was taking Placidyls for cancer, just wonder how many arguments there were during that time..

Get exercising during the day, eat well, and face it, you ain't in the past, so live now. I'm the same way, but had to face the reality of life. If this makes a dent in your problem, I'll be happy. if not, well, I'll still be happy. Your choice b.. You ain't in Kansas anymore Dorthy.,Best you realize that and quit thinking about drugs from the past.

Sorry,I must still be in Kansas, Elam, my doc prescribes Seconal for my insomnia "prn" and it works. So really, you know not of which you type. Albeit, difficult to locate, I do so through my home delivery pharmacy. The Benzo medications are really ineffective for me and from what I read, many others. Yes, Seconal can be dangerous and addictive.....so can other OTC formulations. I take the Seconal as needed and have not built a tolerance to the ability to induce sleep effect. Something so useful has been vilified by those who abuse medications. To the point that physicians that do not understand the use are in fear of Rx ing the drug.

Hey Ray,
Normal people do not understand addicts and alcoholics and don't expect them too. I am a recovering alcoholic and hadn't had a drink in years. My sleep pattern is still messed up and need something powerful to sleep. Once I had lost my medication and was up a whole week. Finally found them and slept. Exercise just makes me more tired but not sleepy. I was around when reds and ludes were dispensed and it would be nice to sleep with one of those because my current meds allow me to sleep interrupted and minimal. Kansas must be on the moon instead because I nor anyone I know gets Seconal because even if you did get a script, you might find a pharmacy that carries it. If Kansas is getting them, his doctor is probably getting investigated by the DEA. So enjoy them while you can.

Yes doctors are very frightened by DEA misinformation about this very useful drug.

Reference to post #9 made on 3 June of 2016, the statement I agree with, BUT there IS exceptions, from a new USA government study, for the calendar year 2016 in only 4 of the 50 states!! Sodium Seconal, is highly prescribed, in these states in this order: 1. Oregon, especially Coastal Oregon. 2. South Nevada 3. Extreme target specific sections of Arizona, "Bullhead City, Lake Havasu City, & SE Arizona to the New Mexico border, (Tucson south to Green Valley SE Bisbee to Douglas AZ.

Does the big Indian company CIPLA manufacture generic seconal? I have tried to fill a prescription for it in so many places and I would hate to be ripped off again. Does anyone know if Cipla makes secobarbital (reds) in generic form?

Re: Mike (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I do not intend to sound like an arsehole narcissist........but, I have been around ethical pharmaceuticals, the controlled types, since the year 1969! I am now retired, and have travelled to many places in the world, due to my past career!

IMHO, Placidyl, I once was most familiar with, has been off of the world ethical pharmaceutical market for at least about 15 years in a row. It was only available in Canada and the USA but for a very long run of about 40 years but is no more! source - Martindale 39th edition in the world covering 43 industrialized countries of the world. Only Communist China might be a long shot but I do not know for sure! It would have to be a black market person on Mainland China and that is not for me!

Seconal, I have not seen one since the year 1976, yes, they are most definitely still made. Oregon is the single top state, with Texas also another state in the top ten states that the distributor for now very expensive Seconal by Marathon Pharma sells their Seconal 100mg reg capsules to. Seconal Sodium NDC 42998-0679-01. Average Wholesale Price was US $490.50 for 100 caps X 100mg per bottle. Source - REDBOOK Pharmacy's Fundamental Source, 114th edition published by Thomas Reuters and PDR Network by for a very high price in the here and now in digital format only for the here and now!!! It is a rare USA C-II. The MD's in the USA have damn good reason to fear prescribing this med due to a malpractice suit. Some kind MD's use it for end of life issues, like terminal cancer, in such states as Oregon or for some states penal system by lethal inj.

I was extensively immersed in the methaqualone sedative for a solid ten years in the USA taking those very addictive sedatives for a solid ten years 1971 until I took my last USA Quaalude in October of 1981!!! Sorry to give the bad news, if you want a pharmaceutical top notch methaqualone, it is now too late, although banned in the USA as a Schedule I on January 1 of 1984, they could be had by top notch ethical pharmaceutical firms in Germany and Spain until about the year 1999 to the year 2000, a solid 15 years after the USA stopped production of Quaalude 300 mg. Germany dropped out then Spain by 2001, that left only
Switzerland with their Toquilone and the production stopped at the end of the year 2006, after a 41 year successful run by Pharm Chemie of Switzerland.

My point is, I have a Psychiatrist, who is 72 years old and I have a trusting relationship with him for exactly 19 years in a row, but he will NOT prescribe me any opiates or any strong "downers" period, I do get C-II's but it is dextroamphetamine and Zolpidem (Stillnox or Ambien), Those are my uppers and downers but, believe me the threat of the DEA or a malpractice suit is very real with the overwhelming majority of MD's in the USA under the current psychological climate in the USA. Even Pill Mills in South Fla never prescribed Seconal only once opiates and Alprazolam and that has been a dead issue since the year 2009/2010 in Florida USA.

The last time I knew of any strong barbituates sp? that could be had was in a dangerous country, for a gringo like me, was Bolivia, or Peru, out in the boonies at a Vet clinic for liquid Pentobarbital, it used to come in bottles for folk's pets, but, can be consumed by humans who lets say are very desperate for situation they are in. I do not recommend this method, due to the several reasons:
One needs to have some basic entry level of the Spanish language

One needs a companion, as the risk of kidnapping or robbery is most assuredly a calculated risk!!

Finally if one procures any Vet meds like Sodium Pentobarbital, (USA former Nembutal).....like was so popular in the early 1970's as yellow jackets by Abbott Labs you will not find them anywhere in the world, only in ampules for IV or IM inj. in some major hospitals in the USA! The UK was once a long shot possibility but it is really a long shot in the here and now even in the UK for a strong Barb, like in the USA! (Short fast acting barb like those Eli Lilly Seconal Eli Lilly Tuinals and the Parke Davis Carbitral with Pentobarbital, and, for, Abbott Nembutals capsules, or "Pulvules" as well as any Doriden, in USA that last sedative a C-II was removed from the USA market in 1993. Removed from the world market in Hungary and Romania in the year 2007. By Egis and Terapia pharmaceutical firms. (Glutethimide) Pentobarb it is only in a liquid bottle like cough syrup in one or two latino countries in South America in Pet Farmacias, known a sodium Pentobarbital. It is no longer available in Mexico, plus it is too dangerous in Mexico in the small rural towns too near the Pan American Highway from Central America to Texas USA due to the Cartels!!!

Examples are "Penta Hynol" 50 ml or Halatal, (Anestesico General) for pets in such places as again Peru or Bolivia and not necessarily downtown Lima Peru but out in this foreign country like in La Paz or Cusco, in either SA country!!! I have NOT been there in over 5 years now so my update may already be antiquates info!!! It might help to bring a sick or aging pet with you if you actually take the journey to Peru or Bolivia, but I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS METHOD at all. I hope you get my point about a one way trip.....I cannot state more clearly on this forum or it will not get past the moderators! Also a dose of a ant-nemic is also usually needed to eliminate vomiting up the liquid product.

Finally if obtained in South America DO NOT leave that country with any of this medication period the penalty is very harsh leaving SA or inbound for the USA!

It once was available in Thailand but that was almost 10 years ago as Sterile Nembutal Veterinary solution in 10 ml bottles!! Only available for a pet owner to perhaps put a pet down from a pet pharmacy owner. Do not leave Thailand or get caught with this medication again the consequences are not worth it unless you plan one way trip as described in this book.

My MD got so mad at me about 5 years ago I gave him a autobiography of the late Elvis Presley's personal MD Dr Nick and he got so mad he threw this book against the wall and starting cussing up a storm! I have given him books and gifts before but he got very offended by this book called, "the KIng and Dr Nick" I felt sorry for Dr Nick only my opinion, but the book seemed sincere to
me. author George Nichopoulos (former MD) ISBN 878-1-5955-5171-9 (2009).

Finally I do know of some vague details of one family member and one of my closest friends who had less than 6 months to live (terminal illness), and, all I can tell you if I do not live in the state of Oregon but both my 1st cousin and my best friend of 25 yrs at age 53, had one or two MD's come to his home and when they left his room the family stated my male friends were with Jesus, and I ask no questions but they did not suffer very long they did not want to wait 6 months not even 8 weeks they wanted it over with and that is all I am able to say. Family secrets are strong! It takes a compassionate Md with a Doctor bag to enter a patients residence to perform an alleged dose like I am referring to!

The rest I plead the 5th on.....

Re: Ridgerunner007 (# 12) Expand Referenced Message

You Psychiatrist sounds very close minded and (no offense) medically ignorant to the benefits of sedative-hypnotics. Temazepam and trialozam are schedule 4 and are about 10x more effective than Ambien. Further, I’ve met with 2 family physicians and from the first meeting, gave Seconal without any hassle. Best sleep, never looked back. Be honest and let them know that Seconal is the best treatment option, as you’ve tried all other medicines. Honestly, why wouldn’t they prescribe something that is proven effective and safe when used correctly for insomnia. Psychiatrist usually are harsher on barbs like Seconal because of the cutbacks they get for brands like Ambien, which I don’t have to explain to you, is only good for unwanted side effects. It baffles me how a psychiatrist would hesitate on a benzodiazepine for sleep and prescribe Ambien, that’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. That’s like instead of taking a tylenol for a headache, you decide to take a a Flintstone vitamin and walk into a door frame.
