I suffer from fibromyalgia (for years) amungst other muscle and joint diseases, and have always taken Lyrica, which has greatly helped. Last week I saw a specialist and he decided to keep me on the Lyrica but added Savella. He said it was new and approved for fibro. What he did NOT tell me was that it is an anti depressant. I cant take anti depressants because every single one of them causes ab adverse reaction in me. After 3 days of being on Savella, I began to feel like I was getting the flu. When I woke up on day 4 I thought I had the flu for sure, but later that day, after taking my morning dose of the starter pack, I noticed blood in my underwear, which was weird because I no longer have a uterus to bleed from. (partial hystorectomy, still have my ovarys but thats it) The blood was...

I have had fibro for over 20 years. I had been taking Lyrica for over 6 years and my pain was starting to increase so my Dr. weaned me off of Lyrica and started Savella at 25mg 2x a day. I had horrible side effects including nausea, intense sweating, suicidal thoughts, sleeplessness. Despite that I stuck it out for a month and even tried the higher dose of 50mg 2x a day to see if I would get any benefits. But the side effects got worse and were unbearable and my pain levels were through the roof. I had horrendous flare ups along with those side effects. I couldn't handle the medication any longer and have now weaned myself off. I'm now considering going back on Lyrica. I would not recommend this drug. I've had issues with other anti depressants in the past so this may not be...

I am very allergic to Sulfa--Does Savella have sulfa in its list of ingredients? ## No, Savella does not, even in the inactive ingredients. If they do use it in some form, they have to make this known due to the problems presented with allergies, such as yours. However, I did double check just to be certain and it is not listed as a component. Is there anything else I can help you with? For the future reference of anyone else, here's a list of the inactive ingredients: dibasic calcium phosphate, povidone, carboxymethylcellulose calcium, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and talc. ## Is Savalla about the same as Lyrica and Cymbalta; I have severe fibromyalgia and unable to take Lyrica or Cymbalta. ## I did not have any allergies. I started on Savella for fibro, only took...

I am starting to wean off of Savella tomorrow. The side effects are just more than I can stand. I've been on it for over six months and I have heard a few horror stories. I'm sacred it may be hard for me to come off. I'm kinda scared. Any one know about this? ## Hi Karen, You seem to be doing the right thing. Usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. In addition to that, I'd also suggest making yourself a tapering schedule on a calendar to track your progress and keep you on the right path to complete y...

I was on Savella for about 6 months, and have decided to go off of it. I took the titration pack for a week, and it has been over a week since I took the last pill. In the mornings I am fine, but as the day goes on, my head starts to spin, and gets worse with movement, and then causes nausea. Any idea how long this is supposed to last?? ## Hello, Tmos! How are you? That was a rather rapid taper, so the withdrawal effects aren't surprising. It may take a month or so, before you start to feel more normal. Why are you going off of it? Did you experience bad side effects? ## Hey Verwon- I am good (outside of the dizziness). Thanks for responding. I did the taper that the Dr told me to do, which was reverse the starter pack starting on day 7. I am going off for several reasons... 1) does...

I was hopeful about Savella for depression and fibromyalgia, but every time I took the evening dose, I would wake up and have to vomit, it was rough. I stopped taking the evening dose and it has done nothing for me, but make me sick so we are switching to Brintellix - back to square one now. Have to get the depression under control and then deal with the pain. Fun, fun... ## While I understand that it can be quite frustrating, it makes sense to get the depression under control first, then to treat the pain. Depression has been proven to contribute to and/or cause pain, so if needs to be treat first, before your pain can be properly evaluated and treated. Once your moods are doing better, your pain may not be so intense. Do you have any questions or concerns? ## I agree! I hope the Brint...

My doctor has me on 600 mg Neurontin a day, plus 150mg of Lyrica a day, plus 100mg of Savella a day... I am always fog brained, drunk feeling, tired, nauseated. I have been on this combination for atleast three years now. I am however just now finding out that, lyrica and Neurontin are the same medication, and that savella is just like lyrica. I'm confused on this, I need to know if I'm being overdosed??? ## Hello, Kyleigh! How are you? I would call it being overdosed, but it does sound like it is too much for you. Lyrica and Neurontin aren't the same medication, but they are in the same drug class, so taking both of them makes no sense. Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin. I took three week's to wean off savella to try natural remedies ..I'm. Being weepy...very sleepy all the time ...could it be caused. By stopping savella? ## Sleep problems (such as insomnia) are actually listed as a side effect of Savella. So I get the sense that "sleepiness/drowsiness" could be an opposite reaction to that after stopping the medication. Since Savella is classified as an antidepressant drug, it likely has some sort of stimulating effect on the mind that eventually diminished as you weaned off of it. Not sure if 3 weeks was long enough for tapering off, but if that's the only symptom you're experiencing I'd try having a multivitamin or tea as a temporary 'pick-me-up'. I hope this helps! Natural remedies are the way to go! :) ## Thanks ...

I'd like a chart/calendar to learn how to taper off 100 mg Savella. Cannot seem to find anything on the net. ## Jolene...what symptoms are you experiencing while coming off of Savella? I too, am coming down off of Savella and am sicker than I have ever been. ## Headaches - more than usual - teary eyed, more aches and pains. I'm going to try a Nature Sunshine product for Fibromyalgia. ## Due to the severe nature of withdrawals, in my honest opinion it would probably be wise to discuss this type of approach with your doctor. However, usually for drugs like this, the safest way to stop taking them is to wean off them if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of s...

Has any one been prescribed savella for depression only? I would like to know how it has worked for you and if you find it helpful. I do not have fibromialga, but do have chronic pain. Thank you for any feedback you can give. I cant find anything out there for just the use of depression and Savella. ## i just started it today ill keep you posted ## I am going to be taking savella for a 12 week trial. If it shows improvement in my major depression, perhaps I will write here again. ## I have battled with depression/anxiety for over 20 years. I have recently developed pain, which was diagnosed as arthritis. I have been on Cymbalta for several years and it has helped my depression, however it does not help my arthritis pain or maybe it's fibromyalgia, don't know. Savella helps relie...

I have been taking Savella for over a year. The Dr. just increased the MG the price is 95.00 for one month. We are on a fixed income. I can't find any help on the web. Does anyone know of coupons that are a great savings? ## I'm sorry, I've done some searching, but haven't been able to find anything. Learn more Savella details here. There used to be a coupon available that your doctor could get for you, but I am no longer seeing it listed on their website. Do you have any insurance to help with the cost? ## yes and my cost is 95.00

I noticed since I took myself off Savella. I know I should of weaned myself off it. I'm now having bussing or vibration sounds in my ears off and on Does anyone have this issue. I hoping it goes away it very annoying. Thanks ## Hi Arlene, I haven't found much on the specific side effect you're experiencing, but visual & auditory hallucinations are listed as a severe side effect of Savella (Milnacipran) on a number of different webpages. Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a609016.html#side-effects How long has it been since you last took any? I'm also thinking it could just be withdrawal type symptoms that will eventually subside as your body levels out. I hope this helps!

I started savella about a month ago. My Dr prescribed it for fibfomyalgia. My problem now is that I am constantly thirsty, especially at night. My pain relief has been tremendous and I have lost about 9 pounds. Has anyone else experienced being so thirsty? ## Dry mouth is a common side effect of Savella, just like it is with many medications, and that usually leads to dry throat, which causes the thirst. It's not a dangerous symptom, just annoying. In many cases it worsens at night, because people tend to breathe more through their mouths then, especially when sleeping. Unless you start drinking so much that it leads to fluid weight gain and edema, you're most likely safe to just sip liquids and moisten whenever needed, but you should double check this with your doctor to be sur...

Why won't any of the insurances pay for my savella? Where can I find help? PDQ ## It is a fairly new medication, which really translates to two things when it comes to insurance companies, it's very expensive and it hasn't been use by a lot of people, yet. Learn more Savella details here. And unfortunately, the only assistance programs that I am aware of are for people that don't have any insurance. Have you tried looking into alternative medications?

Having been experimented with and suffered daily side effects of many other drugs to deal with fibromyalgia and related pain disorders; I am reluctant after reading the others reports of increased insomnia, severe sweats, nausea to the point of vomiting, not to mention increased blood pressure and heart attack risks. I have got to be my own best advocate and exercise caution. This is a relatively new drug on the market and notice that it is being recalled in Europe. Would like to hear others thoughts on this subject. ## Laurie. I too am a Fibro/CFS patient of 22 yrs, and have tried practically 'everything' under the sun. I was given samples of Savella, in a packet from my doctor. I brought it home, and proceeded to read EVERYTHING I could find on this med. I am very sensitive to...

I started taking savella in place if Lyrica because of the side effects I was having from Lyrica. Terrible memory, weight gain, swelling in hands and face, feeling goofy and unable to concentrate. Also, not able to sleep. The savella seemed to give me back my life. I slept all night the first night. That hadden happened in twelve years, without rx sleep med. my osteoarthritis was significantly better. My mood was better. I told the doctor that she gave me back my life! Now I have been on it for two months. I started experiencing several hot flashes a day with terrible sweats. Thought it was just menopause. Now my blood pressure is high, my heart is flip flopping in my chest and causes me to cough. My resting heart rate is constantly between 85-110. My ears are ringing and buzzing terrib...

I have just increased dosage of viibryd to 40mg from 20. i have ms, fibromyalgia, and epstein barr. does anyone know take savella and viibryd together or on the same day. ## WE do have a very active thread involving people that use Viibryd, here's a link to it, so you can see what other's are experiencing: As to combing it with Savella, has your doctor told you to do so? There are some possible serious interactions, so it is generally advised that they shouldn't be used together. Taking them both creates the risk of Seratonin Syndrome, Hyponatremia and several other problems. ## Thank you for your reply. As I was weaning off of savella, I started to have intrusive thoughts. I already have anxiety, so I know that it's probably fueling these thoughts that I am having. I was wondering if anybody else had this issue from weaning off of savella. ## Savella contains the active ingredient Milnaciprin, which is an SNRI, so it does have an effect on brain chemicals and can cause such symptoms, when you are stopping it. Learn more Savella details here. Have you spoken to your doctor about the problem? How bad are the intrusive thoughts? ## They are pretty bad; I'm having them every day, with other symptoms such as panic, and BAD depression. I talked to my psych yesterday, and she said that Savella was going to be approved in the US very soon for depression and anxiety along with fibro.
