Savella And Suicidal Thoughts

After taking savella for a month I began having non stop suicidal thoughts. One night I found myself on the suicide hotline. I committed myself to a 1 week lockdown program and they were the ones that told me it was the Savella. That was 2013.

It's now 2022 and I have survived 2 serious suicide attempts. It's never gone away. When I read the original FDA application it noted that 1/3 would get pain relief, 1/3 would not see improvement and 1/3 would become suicidal. I'm furious! How did the FDA allow this drug on the market?! Be super careful... I would avoid Savella like the plague.

I am so sorry this happened to you. It’s so scary when they use SSNIs and antipsychotics for other non-mental illnesses.

They give Abilify to people with chronic fatigue syndrome and it makes me so sad for those people.

Thank you for telling people about your experiences. Does your doctor have any helpful advice??

I too am so sorry this happened to you. Doctors in my own opinion, give anything out without stating the side effects. My nephew was given a similar drug ended up in the psych ward and he was 37. He was a normal person but depressed and this made him worse.
I am older, a senior and have a few things wrong with me but I won’t take any meds for anything even suffer my pain, both physical and mental. Just seems to me today you can’t trust some doctors. My faith saves me. I pray unceasing every day. I hope you feel better.

Also I’d like to add vitamins and eating right will help you. You can be deficient in certain vitamins. You’d be surprised at what a difference C, D3, and K can do. Take the blood test for this. Even Magnesium and Selenium can help.

I am so very sorry about what happened to you. Unfortunately, most medications carry a slight risk of causing the exact opposite of what they are supposed to treat, and a warning about suicidal ideation is included with the medication information for antidepressants.

Savella also carries a warning that in addition to its normal side effects, which may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and weight changes, it could cause unexpected changes to your mental health.

Are you currently seeing a therapist? I think that would greatly benefit you.

It’s an SSRI IDK why they think anti depressants help with real pain not caused by mental illness.

It’s borderline abusive to give someone an SSRI for Pain. I don’t understand how it would even work, and coming off SSRIs is harder than withdrawing from opiates.
