After being diagnosed with Fibromyalgia I have taken Neurotin, Topomax, Lyrica and now Savella. During this period of time I have gained 70lbs. I want to know what medication I can take for the fibro that will relieve headache pain yet will stop the weight gain and maybe even help me to get rid of this extra weight.

There is actually no way to say how any medication will affect any person that takes it, so there is really no way to answer this question.

While most of these medications can cause weight gain, it's usually not as extreme as what you've experienced.

Have you discussed this problem with your doctor?

Are you watching your diet and making sure that you get proper exercise on a regular basis?

Since you are doing that, there are really limited possibilities to explain the weight gain and why you are having trouble losing the weight.

The first would be the medications, as you suggested and, if that is the case, the chances of you losing any weight, while you are still on them is very low.

Just as an example, I am a very tiny person and normally am lucky if I even hit 120 pounds, however, when I was on pain management and taking narcotics, muscle relaxants and antidepressant, I started to gain weight, in spite of the fact that nothing in my diet or lifestyle had changed. Later, when I stopped taking them all, the weight really just fell off, I actually lost too much. So, I know first hand that many medications can definitely have this effect, because there was no other explanation.

The other possibility is that it was just a natural change in your body and the medications didn't cause it, at all. If this is the case, there may not really be anything you can do about it.

I do realize this is unlikely, given the medications you have been taking, but I am just being honest and putting it out there for you.

As to what you can try that might not cause weight gain, I'll be happy to look into that for you, but can you provide me with more details as to what does or doesn't work for you?

I mean can you take NSAIDs, or have you tried beta blockers for the headaches?

Since there are so many options on the market, I just need a way to narrow it down, a little.
