I remember save the baby and my dad has the original box and bottle with a lil of the save the baby in it. Brings back so many memories. The box says, Lees save the baby since 1874. Warm and shake before using.

My mother rubbed it on my chest and back when I was a kid then on top of that gave it to me melted on a spoonful of sugar (no joke). The camphor may not bee good for you but neither is so much crud in your lungs that you can't lay flat or breath. I wish I could find the original right now as I have a horrid lung funk. I have found nothing in the last 20 years that worked like Save the Baby. I can't imagine that camphor could be as bad for you as high fructose corn syrup or some of the artificial colors/flavors in our "food". Sometimes I think the government needs to go find a different sandbox to play in and leave our tried and true folk remedies alone. It's not like you take it everyday or for even a week at a time. I remember my chest clearing in a matter of a few days.

I grew up in upstate NY. As a kid in the 70's my parents always used this product for me when I was sick. Since having my own kids, I've often thought about it and looked for it in various pharmacies in NY and Ohio. I was never able to find it, and the staff would have no idea what I was looking for. So glad I found this site with the pharmacy info. Thank you!

Check out a product called VETRX for farm animals, compare the ingredients, I think you might be very surprised. Available at tractor supply and many other farm stores, as well as amazon.

I too remember Save the Baby as being made in Watervaliet. (I'm from Troy, across the river.) The salve they sell online doesn't seem to be the same as the liquid in a clear bottle with the red and black printed label. I now use Vicks, but it lacks the comfort of the familiar bottle that I remember from my childhood.
