Had to scrape some details together from everywhere:

"Dosage and Indications
Spasmoctyl comes in a 40 mg dose, containing the active ingredient Otilonium Bromide. It is indicated for dyskinesias and spastic states of the digestive canal.

Instructions
The usual dose is one pill, twice or three times a day. The pills must be taken approximately 20 minutes before meals with half a glass of water. The maximum duration of treatment is four weeks. In case of recurrence of symptoms, the physician should assess the desirability of introducing a new treatment.

Possible Side Effects
The usual dose of 40 mg is generally well tolerated. It may cause in susceptible individuals a slight fatigue, nausea or heartburn.

Contraindications
It is contraindicated for: Hypersensitivity to the active ingredient. Should not be used in intestinal obstruction.

Elderly and Pregnant Women
Should be administered with caution in elderly patients. The safety of using Spasmoctyl 40 mg during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not yet been established.

"Experimental studies have shown that otilonium bromide (OB) inhibits both baseline and chemically or physically stimulated gastrointestinal motility. The spasmolytic activity of OB in the gastrointestinal tract occurs at doses that do not affect gastric secretion or produce typical atropine-like side-effects.

The mechanism of action is composite: interference with calcium ion movement from intra- and extracellular sites; blockade of calcium channels; and binding to muscarinic receptors and tachykinin neurokinin-2 receptors. Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that OB accumulates in the lower intestine and has poor systemic absorption.

Clinical studies have confirmed OB as a potent spasmolytic drug with a good tolerability profile. Studies in patients with irritable bowel syndrome demonstrated OB to be superior to placebo and reference drugs in parameters such as pain, abdominal distension and motility. The composite and local mechanism of OB action reduces hypermotility and modulates visceral sensation: factors thought to be responsible for pain improvement recorded in clinical trials.

The compound is marketed worldwide and no serious adverse events have been reported as yet, confirming its excellent tolerability." [1]

Is there any interaction between Spasmoctyl and alcohol?

Hi Gope - based on what Spasmoctyl is indicated to treat I would recommend avoiding alcohol altogether. Alcohol does not do good things for the digestive system UNLESS you are talking about drinking a glass of red wine with your meal, or something along those lines. Does that make sense?

I'm on these pills after a messy drunk night that led me to having gastroenteritis and I went out drinking the same night as soon as I started the pills and nothing was wrong. In fact, I felt better.

I have been taking Spasmoctyl 40 three times a day for 54 days as indicated by my doctor. The articles I read say the normal treatment is 4 weeks. Can this length of treatment cause me any problems?

I have been taking spasocytl 40 along with levadura billourdi three times for one week then doctor reduced to one a day for 7 weeks along with the levadura. He said stop at end of September. It was great for just under 4 weeks and then I got constipation and followed by diarrhea again. My doctor is away (I am a private patient in Spain and its August) so I have resumed the dose of spasmocytl twice a day accompanied by the levadura. I see on websites that this drug should just be used for 4 weeks although my doc gave me a prescription for 8 weeks. Can I continue? After 4 days diarrhea is still here but only once a day (loose watery).
