I would like to continue taking skelaxin 800MG but now I am on medicare and they will not cover it. What are possible alternatives to this medication that may be covered by Medicare and will give me similar results.

Skelaxin contains the active ingredient Metaxalone, it is a muscle relaxant.

Have you tried seeing if they will cover the generic form? It is just called Metaxalone.

There are also other options available in this same drug class, you can learn more about them here:

Are there any other comments or questions?

One medicare senior to another
FYI - per the 2011 medicare drug list they approve cyclobenzaprine, and methocarbamol which per the link above are in the same family as Skelaxin. Not a doctor so how similar I can't say. I just asked my doctor to switch me over to one of the two and waiting to see what he says. I also read tha tFlexeril is a generic to Cyclobenzaprine. Good luck.

thanks for your reply to my question. I have tried cyclobenzapine and it gives me palpataions. I am going to try mataxalone...the generic for Skelaxin. I hope it will not cost me an arm and leg.
