Yes I started on it in November and have noticed weight gain. Not sure how much but I know I have gained some.

Hi Lisa, I don’t know if you can see my post but I gained almost 30 lbs and also had a horrible rash that was like a burn. They had me on 300 mg/day. I stopped taking it and in7 months have lost most of the weight and the rash cleared up in 3 or 4 days.

Allopurinol is normally prescribed with some other medications like antacids and pain killers. I guess this nausea is caused by those medicines.

I gained 47lbs on the medication. I took it for several years and didn’t understand why I was gaining weight! Then I went for a check up and my new doctor told me that was the reason. I got off of it and lost 75lbs.

I too have gained a lot of weight since being on this medication. I wasn't sure what was causing me to gain so fast especially when I'm trying so hard to lose weight. ugh...really depressing.

Went shopping today, had to buy a size L shirt. Was a small and only last year started buying medium. Belly seems to be growing daily since I started taking allopurinol.

Yes... I am on 400mg of Allopurinol. I have been on for 30-45 days! I have put on over 15lbs! In addition, I have still had at least 2 flareups during that same period... There is DEFINITELY a correlation between Allopurinol and weight gain!
FYI: there are some new clinic programs out there; however, they are extremely expensive and most insurance doesn't pay! I was fortunate and may be accepted to a trial program! It gets rid of GOUT in seven months!

I started taking allopurinol a month ago and have gained 12 lbs eating less and exercising more! This is ridiculous! I thought it was just me until I saw this thread. Thank you for this info. Now I know Im not going crazy

I have been on 100mg of allopurinol for about 3 months and gain 35lbs. My VA doctor this is normal reaction. I don't want to gain weight. Would anyone know an alternative? I never had issues with gout until the VA put be on 12 100mg tablets of prednisone for tendinitis. I been having sleeping issues, headacks, weight gain, memory loss, and major digestive issues.

I dropped 10lbs as soon as i got off of it. as for the GOUT, I found a Doctor who told me to STOP with anything tht had Fructose it in. Sodas, sweets, Fruit juices and ALL alcohol. Also cut out the Grainy foods. THis will cut the inflammation response down in out bodies dramatically. THIS works! im back to eating some meat and I have not had a full blown attack in a year and Im almost completely off of ANY type of Gout MEds.
