I was recently given 500mg time-released caps of Ranexa after a heart cath, with blocked/failed stents but blood has re-routed, so no need for more stents. I do not do well on new medications. I had a severe reaction to the medrol pak that landed me in the heart procedure dept. It's been two days since procedure, I always have PVC's and am terrified to take this new med. The Dr. is out of office til next week and I'm on Lisinopril already and worry about more arrythmias/PVCs or other side effects. I live alone, no family. ## Ranexa contains the active ingredient Ranolazine, it is usually given in conjunction with a medication like Lisinopril, to help treat chronic, stable angina. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and co...

My doctor gave me Raneza 500mg. I am worried because I have stage 4 Kidney disease. I also have a dizziness problem. Recently I fainted and had to go to the emergency room. I have had this dizziness problem for more than a year but cannot find out why it's happening. I also have angina. Raneza has given me very bad constipation. I am very worried for my kidneys. ## Ranexa is most commonly used to treat chronic angina, its typical side effects may include nausea, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and seizures, so it may have caused your fainting spell. How long have you been taking it? Unfortunately, this medication has also been known to cause kidney failure in some people that take it, though it isn't a common occurrence.

I am on Ranexa for just 10 days 500 mg twice daily and each night I wake up at 2 or 3 am and cannot fall back asleep till morning. I feel exhausted already and don’t know if I can use only one tablet in the morning? I tried once to skip evening dose and slept much better. Please let me know if any sleeping pill can help and if it is safe to combine the two. Also can my body get use to it? Not being able to sleep make me feel depressed. ## How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? It would best not to change your dose of the Ranexa, or to combine it with other medications, unless your doctor instructs you to do so. It has been known to cause insomnia as a side effect in some people that take it, but it is very rare.

I am supposed to start taking Ranexa for diffuse CAD. Intermittent angina. I take trazodone at night to help me sleep. The two drugs are incompatible. Do you know of medication for sleep that is compatible with Ranexa? Thanks for any help. ## Hello, Donna! How are you? Drugs in the benzodiazepine class, such as Xanax are not listed as having interactions with the Ranexa, Ambien is also listed as being safe, but only your doctor can decide what's safe for you. The FDA warns that medications, such as Xanax, carry the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. Ambien can also cause some annoying side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, sleep actions and hallucinations. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have...

oval orange ## I feel drowsy, is this common? Ranexa has helped my angina. ## Yes, that can be a common side effect of this medication. The FDA also lists other side effects as possibly including nausea, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. What are the markings on the pills you are taking? This information would enable me to do more research for you, so can you please post back and clarify? Are you on any other medications?

Since I started the drug Ranexa it is been very good for helping me with angina pain but I have started having severe bloody gory horrifying nightmares since I started taking it never had them before I've been on them for several years has anybody else had this side effect ## Most medications can cause odd dreaming as a side effect, if it just the nature of what happens, when you add a chemical to the body to try to correct a problem, according to NIH reports. You may also experience nausea, headache, increased urination, hypotension, and heart palpitations. I experience crazy dreams myself, every few months, or so, due to my heart and blood pressure medications. If they really both you, you should inform your doctor and see about trying a different medication. Is there anything els...

I am on 500mg of Ranexa and my doctor has increased it to 1000mg. What difference will or could I feel? I have been exhausted with my new medicine and we are trying the 1000mg to see if it helps. ## What new medication is causing the issues? Generally, higher doses cause more side effects, if you are talking about the Ranexa. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, and hypotension.

I have been on Ranexa for two days. Today while sitting at my computer I had a dizzy spell. I have no angina. My doctor is giving me Ranexa to increase my use of oxygen. I also have an anxious feeling (the only way I can describe it) and what seems to be a flutter of my heart. Does the body get used to the medication or should I just call the doctor and stop. ## Those can be normal side effects of this medication, according to the FDA, you may also experience nausea, headache, and shakiness. Such issues are usually transient and should go away, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take 4 to 5 weeks. If they get too severe, or continue past that, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I did contact my doctor as my heart would contin...

I'm diabetic, have hypertension, CHF, & early renal failure. Doctor subjected me to arteriogram yesterday for spells of short of breath & angina, but balked at doing ANYTHING (no angioplasty, stents-nothing, for 7 vessels blocked at least 90% because my kidneys were having issues according to labwork. But he gave my husband samples & scrip for Ranexa, said start taking it & in 2 weeks I'll feel better. I'm reading the patient booklet and the prescriber info and ALL over both is listed kidney failure & renal failure. If kidney failure & avoiding dyalisis was the reason we did nothing to FIX my problem, why give me a drug that CAUSES kidney failure? How many people got kidney failure from taking Ranexa? Thanks! ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? It isn't ...

I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. Both of these symptoms are listed as possible side effects of Ranexa, according to the FDA. You may also experience dry mouth, stomach pain, sweating, unusual weakness, hearing loss and chest tightness. Have you contacted your doctor? They may have ideas to help improve these symptoms.

Any ideas on help for constipation side effect from the drug Ranexa? ## Hello, Nancy! How are you? A fiber supplement is usually the best and safest option, as long as your doctor says that it is safe for you to take one. You may also experience other side effects including nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## YES! What works great is Peri-Colace or a store brand with these two ingredients: 1. Ducosate Sodium 50mg (softening agent) *take 3 2. Sennosides 8.6mg (a stimulant) I take these with two Probiotic pills and they work better than anything else I've tried. Don't know if this works for everyone, but you will know immediately if they work. Take them before you go to bed at night and then eat breakfast. You should then know i...

I have a pill here that is pinkish and is stamped with a black label that looks like a backwards G 500 on one side. No other marks. What is it? My friend said she takes them to go to sleep. ## Hi Khrystyna, Unfortunately I haven't come across a pill with that exact imprint. The closest match I can find is Ranexa (500 mg) which is used in the treatment of Angina. It belongs to the drug class "antianginal agents". Common side effects can include: Dizziness, headache, constipation, and nausea. It is a light orange oval pill (appears light pink) with the imprint GSI500 on one side and nothing on the back. Manufacturer: Gilead Sciences National Drug Code (NDC): 61958-1003 Has anyone else seen a pill similar to the one Khrystyna has described?

I recently started on Ranexa 500 mg bid. I have noticed that my migraines, previously triggered by exercise, wine, chocolate, have ceased. Has anyone else had this experience? ## Ranexa contains the active ingredient Ranolazine, it is used to treat angina or other causes of irregular heartbeat. I am not a doctor, but my theory is that all those things that you mentioned can also possibly have an effect on your heartbeat, this could mean that when they did that, you weren't getting enough oxygen and that can result in severe migraine like headaches. Using this medication, so you now have a better rhythm could mean that they are no longer causing this problem. Are there any questions or comments? ## I have been taking Ranexa for angina for the last year and a half, and I have also not...

I'm concerned if Ranexa is addictive I'm taking it for angina. Two tabs a day. ## Ranexa contains the active ingredient Ranolozine. It is not addictive in the way that narcotics and Benzodiazepines are, however, your body will get used to and dependent on any substance that you ingest regularly. This includes anything, such as your morning coffee or orange juice. It is, however, very important that you do not stop this medication or lower your dosage without consulting with your doctor, instead of just minor withdrawal effects, you could experience rebound issues with your angina. This drug just received FDA approval; for patients with angina. What do you have or is it too early ## Well, if you are asking if we are selling drugs here, no, this site does not. We are just an informational site ONLY. As to this drug, I cannot find any information on it yet, sorry. ## I started taking Renexa in Oct 2007 for unstable angina. The MD said it would take about a week before I started feeling better. Actually it was about 4 days a I noticed a decrease in episods. By the time I had been on it for a Month I stopped having symtoms. Unforunately I started having problems again in Jan. and they doubled the dose and my B/P bottomed out. Now they have taken it away altogether. ## Hi everyone, The correct spelling of this med which everyone is looking for is: Ranexa. The active in...

My doctor gave me this because I have angina and when I lay down it hurts worse. What are the known side effects of this drug? ## Here's some more information on it: Ranexa Info Click Here This is not recommended for use during an acute angina attack, and it does carry various side effects, and there are some other meds and medical conditions that it can cause problems with, as you will see from the link I posted above. If it is causing your problems, there are other drug treatment options available, so you could talk to your doctor about it, and maybe try something else. ## Me too. Is Ranexa a Nitrate? ## I am not finding that listed in the monographs. You could try also checking with your doctor or pharmacy.
