How many years are you able to take the prolia inj's.? I took it twice a year for 3 years. Once I received my 6th inj. I was told I was finished and to refer to my Dr. ## I was told that you should go off Prolia (take a holiday), then start taking it again. I cannot find any information that this is the case. Can Prolia be taken forever? ## They no longer recommend the holiday that's been mentioned, the official site from the manufacturer advises against it. As to how long one can continue Prolia, it is up to 10 years, depending on the patient's condition, medical history, insurance coverage, and etc. The typical side effects may include adminstation site reaction, hypocalcemia, increased risk of broken bones, and dermatitis. Did they give a reason why you were done after 3 ...

I am 60 yrs old and suffer from osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and myofascial pain syndrome. After discussing with my endocrinologist, I received my first injection of Prolia two days ago. Had diarrhea approximately 12 hrs later in the middle of the night. Awoke the next day with headache over entire head and face. That evening (12:30 am) I vomited approximately 10 times in succession. Awoke 5 hrs later with terrible pain and tightness from the top of my head down my neck, shoulders, and upper back. I am frightened to see where the pain will travel next, especially after reading the posts on this forum. Is there a drug out there to counteract the Prolia. I will definitely not be getting another shot in 6 mos. My doctor told me that the main side effect of this drug is worsening of skin c...

I am 81 and had my first Prolia Shot May 7, 2015 and after three weeks I have developed a red rash looking sight UNDER the skin of my legs and back. Only the back itches, which is strange! The main problem is the pimple like scabs that form in my hair, which will crust over and flake off if I scratch them. I only wonder what other problems are forming in the areas that can not be seen? I worry about the next shot, and my choose NOT to take it. ???? ## Yes, that is the Prolia rash they talk about. Some people here are using Prednisone but the problem with Pred is that it makes the Prolia stop building bones so you are suffering from problems with Prolia without getting any benefit from it. If one looks online, one can easily see that Prednisone is contraindicated for anyone on Prolia. Ma...

Had a Prolia injection last week (thought it was a calcium supplement) Two days later woke 4am with heart palpitations and feeling light-headed. Went to Dr and my blood pressure was 139/85-normally it is 90/60. Still over a week later have to lie down mostly to keep my heart from racing. Never again! I was not told of any side effects or I would not have had it. ## I am very sorry about what you've had to deal with, after being given Prolia. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including eczema, nausea, diarrhea, and afib. But, it is also well known to cause odd side effects in many people that try it, just like other medications used to treat osteoporosis. My mother-in-law's doctor talked her into trying one, and within half an hour, she couldn't control her bowe...

Hi, has anyone had the prolia shot and have an auto immune disease? I have scleroderma and bones of a 101 year old woman, I am 57 years old. My Doctor wants me to take these shots for the osteo. I am scared to take it because I already have some of these symptoms with my scleroderma, but they are manageable if I am careful and take care of myself. This medication seems like it will kill me. My doctor keeps telling me it's safe..I don't want to take prolia but don't know what else to use in its place, or live my life as is and risk not taking it. I'm tired of taking this for that ailment but now you have this illness so now have to treat that and it goes on an on. Any feedback appreciated. Thank you for sharing your stories. ## DO NOT TAKE PROLIA. I had my first prolia in...

I have just had the Prolia injection. So far no side affects that I am aware of. Is there anyone who has continued with Prolia (Denosumab) and had positive results after three years? thanks ## There are many people that have experienced good results from Prolia. What you have to remember though, is that most of them have no reason to go hunting up a site like this to find more information on it. The people that usually post on sites like this one are those that have had a problem and are looking for help, or support. Typical side effects of this medication, according to the FDA, may include administration site reactions, muscle/bone pain, cough, swollen joints, and loose teeth. Can anyone that's done well on Prolia chime in with their experience? ## I just completed 2 shots (one ful...

I am a 57 year old female who has -2.5 bone density scores on hips and -3.4 in the spine. I used Forteo for 2 years, but because I was scared to death to try any of the biophosphates and Prolia - I lost the benefit from Forteo. It was minimal improvement at best. I had 3 different doctors in 3 different cities tell me that I should use Prolia. I had the injection on Friday, April 11th. I had put the shot off for 6 months after my pharmacy delivered it to the doctor office due to fear and all the forums. So -- if anyone wants to know information, I will keep you posted. Since yesterday, I have had itching in a variety of places and I had a tough time falling asleep last night. I also have some minor cramping in my calves and thighs. So far this is bearable, but I am trusting God to get m...

I have read all the side effects about Prolia before I agreed to take the shot. My doctor convinced me to do so. I had the injection on 6/8/2012. Four days later I have deleveloped pimples around my nose area. I'm 62 years old and haven't had any pimples in years. I've always had dry skin due to my age. Pimples still there as of today, 8/12/2012. Frequent leg cramps at night from 6/12/2012 for four straight days. I remember Doctor Oz said to take potassium 99mcg daily to prevent leg cramps. I took it from then till now, I'll continue using it. My leg cramps has stopped since the second day that I started taken it. I had stomach pain from 6/16/2012 on left upper to mid section of my stomach for a few days. Now I would have stomach pain as soon as I'm hungry. 6/20/2012...

Just updating my situation with severe diarrhea after Prolia shots. I have gone on a totally gluten free diet and what a relief!! My bowels are back to normal (took just four days) and I feel sooo much better overall. The gluten free diet is very expensive, however, I feel it is well worth the cost to not spend my life in the lavatory. Seriously, some attorneys need to start a legal suit against the company that put this poison onto the market to be inj.'ed into unsuspecting patients, causing celiac disease/gluten sensitivity, and all the myriad of other problems I have been reading about. ## Hello, Jeena! How are you? A change in bowel habits can be a normal side effect of Prolia, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, fatigue, headache, and anemia. As to the glu...

Manufactured by amgen for treating osteoporosis. ## Prolia, which uses the active ingredient Densoumab to treat post-menopausal Osteoporosis. As of writing this message, it has not yet been approved by the FDA for general use in the U.S., so the information I have on it is limited. Did you have any specific questions? ## I had been injected with prolia for three years, twice a year for a total of 6 shots which are quite expensive. My doctor wanted to inject me again, but I think I had to stop. So far, I had not any side effect.

My hip bone numbers are worse after the 6 month shot. ## Not all medications and treatments work for everyone that tries them, that's why they are usually several choices available in any given therapeutic category. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Prolia as possibly including bladder infection, arm/leg pain and back pain. You may need to speak to your doctor about trying an alternative. Is there anything else I can help with? ## This is a terrible drug. I only took 2 injections in 9/14 and 3/15, but still have the resulting hair damage and jaw pain. My ENT and Dentist both told me that my jaw is messed up...Prolia does mention that as a side effect, but not hair damage. My immune system is weaker too...even 3 years after stopping Prolia. Yeah I'll just take the Osteopo...

Please help. My hair has always been my pride and f***ing joy. I figured since it is pretty damn healthy, it could deal with some bleach damage. And I figured the master stylist who did all the color-corrections would know how much would be too much. I was wrong, and now I want to burst into tears every time I look at my hair or touch it. I just don't know what to do. my hair has also NEVER been shorter than this and it breaks and falls out. What should i do to regrow hair? ## This was in 2015...was it Prolia that did it? I had 2 shots in 2014 and 2015 (2 total). I had great hair, but my experience was like yours. Now in 2019 it looks healthier, but barely grows...and I wear it long...or did! How is yours.

My bone density loss was -2.6 on December 2015, but after my third shot, my bone scan came back as -2.0 and I am going for a 4th shot this month. Can you tell me how many more shots I can go for, in order to become normal? I know my doctor might not be able to tell me how long. Please give me advice. Thank you! ## It sounds like your bone density loss has improved since the third shot. Do you find that to be the case as well based on how you feel? Have you gotten your 4th shot yet? And have any bone density results came back after the 4th shot to help determine your progress? In regards to how many shots one may need in order for bone density to become normal, my conclusion based on other Prolia discussion threads here, is that there's no way to know for certain because we all respo...

I took prolia shot almost a year ago. I have gum disease for first time now. Can I safely get gum treatment and deep cleaning? Do I treat it differently because of Prolia? Do I risk worse infection? Do I take antibiotics first? Should I wait 6 more months to be more prolia free? ## Hello Janet, Here is what the National Institute of Health has to say on this matter. [1] NIH Prolia Information Section 5.4 "For patients requiring invasive dental procedures, clinical judgment of the treating physician and/or oral surgeon should guide the management plan of each patient based on individual benefit-risk assessment." Basically this means that it's going to be up to your doctor and dentist to determine what is safe and if your oral situation needs to be addressed immediately or can...

I have severe osteoporosis, have lost SEVEN inches off my height, and look like a turtle with the big hump on the back. My specialist recommended Prolia which I started two years ago. After the first shot I got severe diarrhea starting about ten days later. I had been treated with an antibiotic so my Dr. thought that was the cause. After the second shot the diarrhea came back and the Dr. recommended Align probiotics (and any others I cared to take --"the more the better"). This helped and I have taken three probiotics a day every day since. I had my last shot in August and am again suffering with horrible diarrhea. I will NOT get another shot of this poison--I have heard it causes gluten allergies so guess I will try a gluten-free diet to see if it will help. I am sure you all a...

after my last dental hygiene appt. my dentist came in and stated the nurse who cleaned my teeth saw many cavities. they did x-rays. i suddenly have 9 cavities & 2 root canals. i never had this before. i contacted amgen, who produce the shot. they said no one has had trouble w/their teeth, just jaw problems. if anyone has had this type of problem, please write in. thank you ## How long of a time period was there between when you received the Prolia and the dental appointment? Are you on any other medications? The reason I'm asking is because many medications can cause dry mouth, which can allow the bacteria that would normally be washed away by saliva to remain on the teeth and cause higher and faster rates of decay, than normal. Therefore, it may not necessarily be directly rela...

I took Prolia two months ago. I am developing loose teeth and sore spots on my gums. Have others experienced similar problems after taking Prolia? I go to the dentist regularly and have had no dental problems for several years. ## Hello, Dorrie! How are you? You should see your dentist to have this checked out. In certain rare cases, Prolia can cause osteonecrosis of the jaw, it's unlikely, but it would be best to have it checked out, to be sure. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include headache, vertigo, sciatica, anemia and rash. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I'm going to my Dentist for an X-ray of jaw bone tomorrow. Just started hurting this weekend which is Memorial Day weekend. So far, I have had every side effect that Prolia offers and my...

I am 55 years old and have lupus, arthritis, and severe osteoporosis. After more than a decade of taking various meds to try to stop my bones from wasting away with no success, I had my first injection of Prolia at the end of December 2015. I am supposed to get my second shot within the week, but have decided against it. Like many of you, I have felt just awful since December: severe bone and joint pain, worsening depression, constipation, exhaustion, and just plain feeling incapable of doing almost anything. When I talked to both my endocrinologist and rheumatologist about my symptoms, my concerns were dismissed and I was told the side effects would only last a few days at the most. My question is have any of you felt better after you stopped taking the Prolia? If so, how long did it t...

Hi all, Pood here. I tried to call Amgen about the two teeth that totally decayed below the gum line. Apparently they are now keeping office hours and close at 8pm Eastern which makes no sense because they are in Canada. I think I will talk to a local "ambulance chaser" to see if I can get any interest from him. Meanwhile, I go back to my dentist this Thursday. Jan, is your dentist behind you on this new problem and have youreported it? Hugs. ## I’ve had ONJ since November 2017. Antibiotics by mouth 7 times, 2 rounds of IV antibiotics by picc line. Still in pain. I’m trying to find a class action suit. I’ll let you know.
