Prolia Side Effects (Page 135)

I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

I had so many skin issues of different kinds! Terrible itching on my scalp was part of it all. There were crusty lumps and smaller bumps, along with generalised hair loss, and a clump of hair missing from the worst bumpy area. I had a crawly sensation on my face, in my nose and ears, and particularly severe around my forehead, eyelids and brow bone.
There was hardly a part of my body that wasn't itchy at some stage, and disfigured by red marks of various kinds.
What got me through was Novasone lotion, but I used it for too long and got secondary side-effects - e.g. thin skin where I had used it most. I still get small echoes of these rashes etc when I eat certain foods that I never used to be allergic to pre-Prolia. At least now I rarely lose a night's sleep due to itching and I can get by without such expensive anti-itching creams and ointments most of the time. It has taken a year since my last injection to recover this far.
I think we all experience effects which are subtly different but with so much commonality.
I really hope this settles down for you quickly!

I have had a lot of skin problems, even have become allergic to animals, dogs and cats. And I loved my animals. Had to give away my last cat. Traveled with her in the car, skin started breaking out. Really bad, then started breaking out at home from her. It was terrible. I have had most of the horrible side effects of Prolia. I wish I had known before I ever took the first injection. A horrible drug for me and it looks like a lot of others that have taken it. As I said, a horrible drug. FDA needs to step in and do something. Prolia has been a nightmare for me personally!!!

Yes, and my scalp started breaking out with rashes, really bad, and now my hair is thinning really badly. As I have stated many times on these forums, Prolia has been a nightmare for me and I wish I had never taken it without being told of all the horrible side effects of the drug! Prolia has been and still is a horrible drug for me. As for my scalp, I am now using Head and Shoulders shampoo and have to put anti-itch creams on my scalp sometimes. Hope this helps.

I have just started breaking out with little hives again ! It took a year after my last shot for this to resolve, and now 8 months later it has returned !

That is so awful that you became allergic to your beloved cat. It is bad enough that I am now allergic to some of my favorite foods, but if I had to give my cat away it would seem particularly cruel. It is very strange to develop new allergies in one's sixties or thereabouts. I think the causation is pretty clear. My new allergies include zippers, non-precious metal jewelry, elastic, soy sauce, and mushrooms. I'm gradually becoming OK with metals and may even be able to wear earrings again. We were definitely not given enough info about Prolia's side effects, which was utterly reprehensible. Just as bad, or even worse, is the fact that many of our prescribing doctors seemed genuinely unaware of its dark side due to Amgen's PR. I am furious that my life has been messed up so much. At least I have been awake for the last six months, unlike the previous year. That year of fifteen hour overnight sleeps plus daytime drowsiness was really destructive. I so hope these allergies of ours have time limits!

Actually there is a prescription one called Betaderm Scalp Lotion which my doctor gave me to use. It really helped. I’m in Canada but I’m sure it would be available in the US.

Novasone lotion (mometasone furoate 1mg/g) works really well on the scalp. It is runny, not a cream, so hair looks OK. Very effective for short-term use (up to a month if used regularly). Prescription needed in Australia and probably elsewhere.

Thanks to both of you for the anti itch advice...Have a dr appt and will ask about both of those. I honestly think I may be experiencing some kind of Prolia withdrawal symptoms.. sounds strange but I did not take the shot that was due one month ago... rashes have broken out all over and am having eye problems as well... maybe odd things happen as it slowly backs out of my body..Just guessing..

Folks, I want to warn anyone who is planning on getting a shot of Prolia to treat bone density. I had one shot a month ago, and ended up in intensive care. My calcium and magnesium levels dropped dangerously, and I was told I was lucky my heart didn't stop.

I was pumped full of calcium via IVs, and was finally released from the hospital. Since then, the same symptoms have persisted that I got when I received the shot. Flu-like symptoms with no appetite, constantly tired, nausea and diarrhea. The shot is supposed to last for 6 months, so I am assuming I'm stuck with the symptoms for that long.

I then researched the drug on medical web sites and discovered thousands of other people who have experienced the same result from receiving a Prolia shot. I want to warn everyone to reconsider if a Prolia shot is planned in your future. There is a movement to file a class-action lawsuit against the manufacturer, and there have been thousands of complaints filed with the FDA.

The drug is Prolia. The side effects are devastating. Please reconsider before you receive this treatment for bone density!

To the OP: Your message is seven years old... I hope that the side effects of Prolia vanished over time. I was supposed to get the second shot 2 months ago and did not. Am hoping side effects (hair loss, uti's, gum diseases, overwhelming fatigue, etc) will alleviate. So far I am feeling better (more alert, less digestive issues), but still have gum problems and hair loss issues. If you still check this site, I would like to see how you are doing after all of these years off the drug. Thanks.

I too experienced hypocalcemia and hyperparathyroidism within months of my first shot. In addition I experienced numerous side effects.

It took about a year to lose those most of those negative effects, although some are permanent.

I join you in warning people not to
take this dangerous medication.

Hi Bob. It's a dreadful drug and the only response I get from my medicos is that all drugs have side effects. really? I contacted Amgen Australia and their response was , 'well yes Prolia can cause those particular side effects but cases are very rare which I felt was an insinuation that my problems couldn't possibly be side effects from Prolia. My main problems are aching left side jaw and thigh bones plus other stuff which all started over 3 years ago. I have not had an infusion for almost a year but nothing has improved.

My hypocalcemia symptoms continued long after my lab tests were normal.

It seems they all minimize the side effects. In fact, when I did have hypocalcemia, 3 Dr.s blew me off. I went out of state to my previous Dr. who treats Osteo with Yoga; he was the one who diagnosed me.

It seems all the doctors blow us off, they do not want to admit what horrible problems are created by the drug Prolia. As I have posted so many times, in an effort to help others escape the awful side effects that I have had, it is a horrible drug and should be investigated. Amgen is making a killing at our expense and suffering. Take it off the market. The longer it is on the more negative reviews. Patients suffering!!

I am happy to hear that you are having no side effects from Prolia. As for me, it has been the most horrible drug I have ever had and I am still suffering from many of the side effects of the injections I had. I am going for an injection for my spine tomorrow, hoping this will help! Again, happy for you, but, as for me not so lucky. Prolia has been a nightmare for me personally! Good luck.

Prolia has been and still is a horrible nightmare for me personally. Yes, it is now being used to treat cancer patients, and I had a very close friend that was given this drug for a mild case of cancer, they never told her of the side effects it would have on her heart. Sorry to say, she did not survive. The drug or not, I cannot say for sure, nor can her family, but we are convinced that it hastened her death. It is poison, and should be taken off the market. Poison for me and many others!

I am also having parathyroid problems. Now have to add an endocrinologist to the list of doctors I have to consult to get rid of problems I never had before Prolia. My life schedule has narrowed to multiple doctor appointments and lab tests in hopes of staying ahead of the health problems.

Has anyone experienced less side effects as time went on despite continuing promos shots. Last shot I experienced much less side effects.
I finally found a Dr. that agrees that what I had experienced before were side effects of promos. My previous Dr. Would never admit that they were from propos . I had so many tests that were unnecessary.
