Updated

Would like to know if anyone had side effects from Prolia but they went away - and how long did it take for that to happen?

Thank you to everyone for your comments on this drug. After reading your concerns I will definitely refuse it when I go back to the specialist. I will continue to exercise and eat well instead of poisoning my body. I fell and broke my shoulder and had to have surgery. He automatically blamed it on my osteo. Never let me explain how I fell. If it had not been for the fall my gp would never had sent me to a specialist. Now this guy has given me a year off to research this drug and try other osteo remedies. Thanks again for your input. Wonderful forum!!

I had my 4th shot December 2017. Within two weeks I had pain from head to toe. All my muscles, bones and joints. looking back on it I had pain in all my joints after the third shot. My doctor agreed that I should discontinue the prolia. Also the only thing that I found that would help my pain was hemp cbd oil. in a week I was starting to sleep better and gradually a lot of my pain got better. nothing else touched it,not tylenol or aleve and I refuse to take anything stronger because a lot of times they want to put you on predinsone .

There really isn't a lot of choice when it comes to drugs for osteoporosis. They are all bis's except one that is something like Evista. It balances our hormones but is NOT HRT. You can have it if you have never had a blood clot. Hope that helps your choice. Be well~Pood

I had my last shot in 2015, I took seven before I began my research on the drug in Prolia. I, sadly to say, am still suffering from the side effects of it. It is a cancer drug denosumab, a form of chemo, I wish I had and answer as to when or if it will go away, sorry I do not, I am still suffering from this nightmare of a drug.

Pretty rough side effects, including the cost. Two years after one injection only, I spent 20,000 each year on copays alone, trying to stay on my feet. It attacked my joints, my muscles, my stamina, (I was on a walker for a few months), still using a walking pole sometimes, ultimately teeth, my pain levels were off the charts. Also ended up with tumors on my parathyroid, which I eventually eliminated through surgery. PTH levels were way off the charts. (Which incidentally helps bone density to take any tumors off the parathyroid glands). Initially, I was on a walker - I swelled up like a balloon and looked generally very sick. Which I was. Some say they have no side effects, but a good share of us do. And they don't seem to ever really end, though some can be abated somewhat. I took a chance I wish I hadn't.

Yes it will be 3 years this coming October and I am still having shortness of breath. No one in the medical field will blame Prolia but yet I was told not to have another shot.

So very sorry. I think the pharmaceutical industry has come up with the idea they can deal with bone loss the same for all patients and really there are various causes and/or contributors, including aging. It is not so. The did their best to talk me into switching to Prolia's wicked cousin, that works in the same way. I said NO!

Katherine (# 9) -

Have been on Prolia for five years. Had such severe back and muscular pain. I stopped the injections although they try to convince me to stay but remember they’re getting $860 per shot they told me that if I quit my bones would go back to what they were before I started the shots and I said to them since I’ve been on pro Leah I have lost 50% of my bone mass on my spine so I would not continue with that now I can tell you what I have done I’m going into my fourth month of no injection I am fighting so hard to overcome all this pain it’s not what I want to live with and it’s a little expensive but I don’t care I am taking AlgaeCal pulse along with Stontium Boost. Also Bone Broth every day I am seeing a holistic for Accupunture I swim 3 times a week. Been though hell. but I truly feel improvement I will keep you informed

THanks for posting. I am not going to take my next shot so it is encouraging to read of others who are determined to overcome the effects.

My hip was so damaged-pain finally went away. So a year free, and now the same hip, same awful pain - - is back. I just feel emotionally wrung out fighting this, it should not be permanent, but apparently it is.

Every day is not beautiful. But I am having more good days the longer I am off Prolia

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

They do not wear off for the very simple reason that Prolia alters our immune system in a way that causes autoimmune disorders, and these are permanent. Please look into Prolia and Thyroid disorders such as Graves Disease including Thyroid Eye Disorder (TED), as well as Lupus and other conditions.

Re: Maritere (# 254) Expand Referenced Message

Thank you for this information! My immune system was already compromised.

I have some updates from the last time I posted here. I've had asthma from the time I was 10 years old. Because of Prolia I have chronic bronchitis and chronic asthma which is now classified as COPD. I am so angry about this. There is no cure for COPD (and I've never smoked). My pulmonologist was surprised to learn I wasn't a smoker, yet I have COPD. She wondered how I got it. I told her it was the Prolia and where to find the information.

The eczema is still on my lower legs but it isn't as bad as when I first got it.

I already had a dang laundry list of chronic conditions and Prolia has made everything so much worse. The information everyone shares I'm so grateful for, as well as the support.

Hugs to all!
Nikki

Re: Giralda (# 235) Expand Referenced Message

I can't find the article. What I did was collect information on the side effects and made it into a Word document so I can print it out and take it to my doctors. I also made this into a PDF. Are we allowed attach something like that to our messages? I'm willing to share it.

Re: Genevieve (# 219) Expand Referenced Message

I've had 3 UTI's in the space of 3 months. I had them before but now it seems like they are so much harder to get rid of and I'm limited on the kind of antibiotics I can take. No floxxies (Levquin, Ciprofloxin), no Macrobid.

I want to cry. More and more stuff keeps showing up. I haven't been on Prolia since last year.

Here is some information I found:

Common Side Effects of Prolia
• Pain in your back, legs, and/or arms
• Joint pain
• Weakness or tiredness in the muscles
Acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
• Symptoms of bladder or kidney infection
• Swelling in the feet, ankles, or lower legs
• Rash
• Stomach pain

Serious Side Effects of Prolia:
• Severe allergic reactions
• Low red blood cell counts
• Serious but non-life-threatening infections
• High cholesterol
Bladder infection
• Breakdown of bone in the jaw that may be painful (osteonecrosis of the jaw)

Rare Side Effects of Prolia:
• Serious infections that require hospitalization
Urinary tract infection that requires hospitalization
• Infection or inflammation of the pancreas

Hope this helps!

My mother died after six months after the first shot prolia. She was a dialysis patient and would undergo a kidney transplant. When she was completely paralyzed then they let the transplant continue only to disguise the thruth. My brother was the donor.

I thought the list would help you pinpoint where other issues were coming from. I hope the information helps others, too.
