Prolia & Hair Loss (Page 3)

Updated

I've just recently had my second Prolia shot. So far so good...a little back pain. I continually have stress fractures on my feet and have also taken fosamax. My current problem is hair loss & I wondered if anyone else was having that problem?

Have had a couple of Prolia injections. I couldn't believe the change I my hair. My hair stylist asked if I had a change in medication, My hair has fallen out and the hair on the top of my head is very dry, broken and frizzy. Ugly and difficult to control. I have always had lovely hair. So I began investigating on line and sure enough there are lots of people experiencing hair loss. I will never have another Prolia shot again. And I implore the company to list hair loss as a side effect of this drug.

Hair loss is not on any website that I can find & I have saved all 198 places I have searched in an offline file. The nearest I can get to this issue is from the National Cancer Institute stating that prolia is a cancer drug & as we are all aware, cancer drugs cause hair loss - Period. Good luck as it has been 1 year & 2 weeks since I had my 1 & only inj. & am still losing my hair. This is the devil's drug.

I had a Prolia inj. in late March. Shortly thereafter my hair started falling out. Every time I brush it or run my hands through it, or after shampooing, handfuls come out. It is horrifying as to how thin it is now. I firmly believe this is indeed a side effect of that drug, despite the pharma company sales reps' denying it. I was scheduled for a 2nd inj. the end of September and cancelled it. Never again will I get another shot. Not only has the hair loss been terrible, the aches, pains, swollen joints for no reason, closed throat, difficulty swallowing, coughing, blurred vision and a host of other side effects have been a nightmare to live with. NONE of these things were an issue before I received the inj. Do NOT get it.

Anne, I initially had had hair loss, but it stopped and was not due to the drug. I have a couple questions regarding the diagnosis of your osteoporosis, if you don't mind, which can account and help understand the hair loss. Did you suffer a fracture that disrupted your life? What was happening in your life about three months prior to the actual shot that you got? Was there some emotional/physical stress or trauma? These are important things that interact with what your experiencing and are unrelated to to prolia.

Christine, I had a dexa scan to determine the osteoporosis. I was taking Boniva with no positive results in bone mass. I was in excellent health with no fractures & certainly no stress involved prior too, however the stress came dealing with the horrible pain induced induced by prolia. Hips, thighs, & groin to the point that I could barely walk. I cried day after day from the pain with no relief in sight. It's been over 12 months now & it is beginning to come & go, but mostly come. I hope your experience & others are not quite so horrible.

Christine~FYI -- Prolia ia a chemo drug. It's twin just has more of the Chinese hamster ovaries in it. What happens when we go thru chemo? Hair falls out. Just because it has not happened to you does not mean in the least that it has not happened to the rest of us. We are not cookie cutter people. Everyone of us is different. Maybe you are younger with a healthier immune system to begin with -- dunno but please do not judge Anne on your experience. Be well~Pood

I noticed hair loss over the last few months, much more than before Prolia. I only recently realized that the two were related. Not sure it's worth the next injection, due in November.

I will never take P again, hair loss was only part of awful students effects.

Lola~eventually. Just because Prolia goes 'poof' in six months does not mean in the least that it's side effects do. They can and do remain in some people for years. Let's hope you are not one of those people. That is all we have is hope. There is no magic pill that deletes all of the Prolia from our bodies. Perhaps your Rheumatologist works with an Immunologist? That would be your best way to go. Be well~Pood

Anne~I just had a TSH test for my thyroid and it came out perfect so it has to be the remains of Prolia in my body. Everything tested perfectly for me on all of the lab work and he ran everything in this world he could think of so I only have one thing to blame anything on -- poison Prolia. Some day here more of it will leave my body and I'll be better. The Calcitonin is working well. I fell and absolutely zero happened to my bones. I got a bone bruise was all. That's nice to know!! Anything gained from the Prolia disappeared months ago. It starts leaving as soon as one quits it so I cannot say any bone health was from Prolia. It's my Calcitonin working well as usual. Be well~Pood

I am a 49 year old breast cancer survivor and am taking Anastrozle that has caused bone loss. I just received my first Prolia shot in June 2016 and I can't get over the hair loss I am experiencing. I went through 4 months of chemo and lost my hair back in 2012. I am devastated that I am dealing with this now!

Hi Ann, I'm seeing the same issues with prolia and hair loss. Wondering how many shots u had before you realized it was the prolia causing the problems. I have only had one and do not plan on another. I'm going to call my dr today about getting a prednisone shot to slow down the hair loss. This is insane! They told me that there w

Did your hair come back after stopping the Prolia?

Cookie~I used L'Oreal Preference. No damage to hair beyond what Prolia has done. Just bought another kit but have not applied it yet. I would not go in for bleaching as that would cause more damage but I have found a little darkening has not changed it at all. It will also make you feel a little better when you look in the mirror. Be well~Pood

SDMOM~Prolia is chemo. It's just in a lesser amount than it's twin. Does your hair grow back like it did with chemo? Not that I have noticed. I've had both and Prolia has been the most devastating of all chemo drugs when it comes to hair. I know of nothing at all that stops it and I have inspected the fallen out hair and it is good hair with the follicle attached. One good thing we can do when we dare to wash it is to rub the scalp well with apple cider vinegar and also use it as a final rinse mixed in a pan of warm water. I promise you won't smell like vinegar. It's not listed as a side effect but it seems as if we all have it. Be well~Pood

Dawn~Our MDs know very little about Prolia and a lot less about how to get rid of it's huge list of unwanted side effects. They get their info from Amgen, the manufacturer. Most are pretty useless. If we could find Immunologists there could be some help for us but they seem to be as scarce as hen's teeth. Be well~Pood

Barbara~from when to when did your hair start coming back in? How long have you been off of Prolia? You seem to be the only shining light here. Pood

Pood-
My hair starting growing back by six months it was very noticeable around the hairline. I was very gentle washing not pulling it. I am still on Vit D and Calcium regularly. I have chin length hair and kept it at that length to not add further weight to the hair.(I usually had shoulder length hair. It's totally back! I just had a bone density and I am awaiting results since I have been off of Prolia for a year.
