Problem With Kremers Urban Ku 136 (Top voted first)

Updated

I have taken Omeprazole for years from various manufacturers and never had a problem. My pharmacy just switched to Kremers Urban KU 136 this week, and they don't do anything. When I am not on medication for GERD, I wake up every night gagging on vomit. In the past when I am taking Omeprazole daily, I wake up maybe one night a month usually because I ate something too close to bed time. I use a pillow wedge to sleep upright and am fine. When I took the Kremers Urban KU 136, I was up every night gagging on vomit and the pillow wedge didn't help. I bought Nexium over the counter and am now back to not having any issues. I told my pharmacy, but they didn't seem to care. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this with Kremers Urban KU 136?

I was so relieved to see your post. I just started the omeprazole from Kremers Urban and it is as if I am taking nothing. I can't even take a nap without the GERD symptoms waking me up. I am going to call my pharmacy and doctor and see what to do next.
This happened to me in the past with another generic drug for depression, which is normally completely
under control with medication. I couldn't figure out why I was feeling so terrible until I realized that the pharmacy switched the generic manufacturer. My doc writes the name of the generic on the Rx now, saying the pharmacy is required to use it.

I called my pharmacy with the same problem. They said that another patient had the same problem and they put her back on the Sandoz omeprazole. I am going back to the Sandoz, even though I will be paying cash for this 90 day supply, since my insurance already paid for the K-U product.

I would suggest checking the price on the over the counter product, before you get a fill from your pharmacy, so you can pick whichever one is cheaper. It might save you some money.

There can be slight fluctuations from one generic to another, so that might account for the problem.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence, diarrhea, and stomach pain.

How are you both doing, now?

Re: Verwon (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks so much for the reply. I had to purchase something over the counter because my GERD is severe. I purchased Nexium and then switched to famotidine (Pepcid AC) because the over the counter Nexium is so expensive (I had to take 2/day). The famotidine is working well and does end up being less expensive than prescription omeprazole.

Re: Sandoz (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I reported it to my pharmacy in person, and they didn't seem to care. I thought at least they could have taken back the unused portion and partially refunded my copay. I only took 3 pills and paid for 3 months. I am considering switching to another pharmacy.

Re: Verwon (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

I have switched back to the Sandoz product and all is well. I even had pepperoni pizza last night without any heartburn, whereas with the K-U product I couldn't even have vanilla frozen yogurt without heartburn.
