Prexum 4mg Side Effects

Updated

Started using Prexum approx. 6 months ago...have not had a day without a severe headache (migraine). Dr says it's not the Prexum. Especially when coughing..feels like head wants to explode! Also have muscular spasms when coughing....has anyone had similar experience?

Prexum contains the active ingredient Peridopril, this is an Ace Inhibitor, commonly used to treat high blood pressure and coronary artery diseases.

That said, YES, headaches are actually a very common side effect of this class of medications, along with nausea, drowsiness and dizziness.

You'll see that in the side effects section, headache is prominently listed!

Has your doctor run any other tests?

Patricia,

It is hard to say, it really depends on what caused it. If it is from the medication, then yes, once it is out of your system, the side effects should eventually disappear.

Have you spoken to your doctor about this?

I have been to my doctor who sent me to a ENT specialist.I had a scopic test done ( where they look up into your nostral with a light into your head to view the Ofactory nerve) he said it looked ok but wanted to send me for a cat scan I am not on medical aid so have`nt made the appointment yet..I feel feel fine just the headache and lack of smell and taste..I`m a bit scared of bad news....went almost blind before I went and found that I was Diabetic...sigh!

ive been on prexum 4mg now for nearly a year. Doctor told me to loos weight. Which i did. Doctor told me start a healthy diet. Which i did. However, since the last few days when i took my prexum tablet in the mornings i nearly fainted. I feel dizzy! Rushed to the doctor who told me that my blood was very low. He advised that i should take half of the prexum tablet in the mornings an not the prescribed 1 tablet. Can it be that my blood pressure had stabilised an that the prexum is now lowering a normal blood pressure? I am now too scared to take the prexum. I am continuously dizzy and feel like i am going to faint. From tomorrow onwards il start drinking the tablet again. But feel very afraid. Please advise

For 13 years I was considered healthier than 90% of lupus patients - until my BP medication was changed to prexum plus. Daily headaches are but one symptom. Doctors seem to think it's my imagination since lupus patients are supposed to be ill.

Since my last post I had to resign from my job and am disconnected from internet. The headaches and nausea went on to include sleeplessness and a persistent dry cough, all of which were ingnored by GP and specialist. When I developed severe joint and muscle pain, they ascribed it to Lupus and administered Cortizone. 24hrs after the injection I was unable to move a muscle and developed severe inflamation of all my joints muscles, tendons and ligaments. I was confined to bed for three and a half months. According to those doctors, I had a lupus flare. According to my new doctor, I had an alergic reaction to Prexum Plus, as well as the cortizone injection. I am still struggling to regain full use of my limbs. I am extremely angry since I feel the hell I experienced was totally unnescessary. I would sue in a moment if I thought I would get the support I require

Hi, my name is Edmund and I also use Prexum for 14 years now. I have a dry cough and tired quiet often. what I find has helped a lot to monitor my BP is a cuff BP monitor. I actually keep 2 handy. When I feel a headache I take my BP and if it is normal I take a Panado or 2, if a little high I take a teaspoon of chopped garlic with a glass of milk. It brings the BP down by at least 10 points. What I also find is that the BP cuff monitor acts as a "calm down pill". When I go into a mild panic I take my BP and when it is normal I calm down to a point where everything is normal again. I hope this helps.

l am taking Prexum 4MG for more than 10 years now,and have not had not any side
effects, but lately l get a itchy skin rash. Now l have been reading in a medical magazine
that blood pressure tablets, like Prexum 4MG, contain HCT which could be the cause.
Is that possible, and is there any truth in it.

Don't let doctors tell you it's not Prezum. I am on it for last 3 months and dropped it 2 days ago. I had all the side effects listed. Loss of appetite, vision, taste, headache like migraine, bad bad coughing, wheezing, all of that. I had to do emergency treatment over the weekend far away from doctors. I had to use Venteeze, allergy pills, etc. to get through the past 3 days. I'm already better since stopping the use of Prexum. Although I'm still coughing now and again and chest still feels a bit tight. I'll NEVER ever use stuff like this again. Don't know what I'll do about my high blood pressure, but I've had it with this stuff. The scary thing is that GPs can prescribe it whenever they want and they don't even know the side effects.

Please don't just stop, Rather go and see your doctor, and ask him/her to prescribe something else. If you have stopped altogether, I do recommend that you try the hibiscus tea, and also take 1000mg of omega 3 every day. Omega 3 assists in lowering bp also, but also can assist in preventing blood clots. I am not a doctor, but have a medical background. (nursing) These things have worked for me, and perhaps they might work for you. Hope this helps you. Take care

Re: Nietz (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

Hibiscus tea assists in lowering blood pressure. Ten flowers soaked in boiled water for a half hour. Strain the flowers and add lemon juice and sweetener to taste. Drink three cups per day. I make a large amount, and freeze it in small mineral water bottles. If you are unable to access hibiscus flowers, you should be able to get the tea online. You can drink it hot or cold. I prefer it cold, and it is very refreshing. Hope this helps.

I recently started with prexum and have been feeling horrible (nausea, headache shaky and dreadfully tired) and gaining weight. Is it just my body adapting? Will it normalize again? My blood pressure is perfect now.

Re: Edmund (# 11) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks for this! I've been experiencing exactly the same.

Now I don't take the BP reading unless I feel ill. It boggles your mind when it's high..Then u stress, and it increases!

I'm changing my Lifestyle to a Healthier one. Life is precious and very short!

Too short to be Ill all the time.

I agree doctors dont realise the side effects to these drugs cost you your life with no one wanting to help they think these symtoms are in your head these companies should be a ashamed off their selves to what they put patients through
