Prepopik Not Working, What Should I Do?

Updated

Took this stuff at 6:30 pm and its now 11:06 pm and not much is happening. All the anticipation for this procedure and now it doesn't seem to be working. I'm supposed to take the next dose at 7 a.m., hope something gets it going. Have to report for the colonoscopy at 11:15 a.m.. So far, Im not impressed. Just want to get this over with!

Hi Jon, hope that everything went well after your wrote this. Did you end up going after your second dose (or even before)? You're supposed to drink a lot of water with this, did you follow the general recommendation (per medline plus) of drinking five 8- ounce (240 mL) drinks of clear liquid within 5 hours of the dose? Please let me know how it went (no pun intended), and hope that you're feeling fine.

This is very discouraging! I took my first dose at 6pm and NOTHING has happened. I have spent a lot of time in the bathroom peeing from all the water but that's it. I haven't had anything solid since Monday night. The instructions said take the second dose at 10pm if no bowel movement had occurred. It is now 1am and I still haven't had any bowel movement, not even the urge. I am scheduled for my colonoscopy and endoscopy at 12:30om. My husband took off work, I changed my child care schedule changed another appointment to get this procedure. The Dr gave me the Prepopik like he was doing me a favor. I would rather have paid for the nasty stuff I had last time than deal with this mess. I am not happy!

Yes! I had the same problem. I was shocked when NOTHING WAS HAPPENING!! You rearranged your whole life for this procedure and your not going to be able to have it because the doc will just say " no, we can't do it "..... you'll have to do it all over another day

Jon, Have you called the Pharmacy and talked to the Pharmacist? They tend to know more about the drugs than the Drs do. Just a suggestion.

No I didn't, but that's a good idea. I think I will. Good suggestion.

Jan, if you do call the pharmacist, can you please tell me what they say?

No. They went ahead with procedure but when they finished the doctor said I wasn't clean enough and we had to do it again in a few months.

Nope!

Geez, sorry to hear that. I wonder why it didn't work as advertised the first time? Here is some information about Preparing for a Colonscopy from Harvard Health:

Diet

A few days before the colonoscopy procedure - Start eating a low-fiber diet: no whole grains, nuts, seeds, dried fruit, or raw fruits or vegetables.

The day before the colonoscopy procedure - Don't eat solid foods. Instead, consume only clear liquids like clear broth or bouillon, black coffee or tea, clear juice (apple, white grape), clear soft drinks or sports drinks, Jell-O, popsicles, etc.

The day of the colonoscopy procedure - As on the previous day, clear liquid foods only. Don't eat or drink anything two hours before the procedure.

Bowel prep

The afternoon or evening before the colonoscopy, drink a liquid that will trigger bowel-clearing diarrhea. The exact colonoscopy prep instructions depend on the bowel prep your doctor prefers, the time of your colonoscopy, and any prior experience you've had with colon preps (if one didn't work before, you'll likely be prescribed a different one).

The preferred method is known as split dosing. You take half the prep the night before the procedure and the other half about six hours before it. It may clean the colon more thoroughly compared to taking all the prep the day before the procedure.
