Potential Seroquel Weight Loss Method!

Updated

The good news for me is that the treatment I have taken, of which quetiapine (seroquel) was a part, has cured any mental illness I had. And now what it has given me in return is a massive physical problem – weight gain.

I read that many people suffer from this same problem.

I would not say it has ruined my life but certainly my love and social life are on hold.

Over the course of six months on quetiapine I gained 35 kilos / 77 lbs. I was then given another medication. My best efforts to remove the weight through diet and exercise made no difference. Three years passed.

In a bizarre move after exhausting everything I could think of, I conducted what I have termed ‘a trial’. I took quetiapine for a handful of days and ate the bare amount needed to keep me functioning, which was surprisingly little. And to my joy the weight came off. Little by little.

Of course in my haste to lose it all, which I almost did, the quetiapine lost its efficacy and my weight plateaued. At this point I should have stopped. Yet I continued trialing and regained it all. And I was fasting too, which makes it almost inexplicable that I gained anything back.

Another two years passed. By this stage I was starting to formulate some basic theories about how quetiapine works in my body. I reasoned that when quetiapine is fresh in an unresistant body it has the ability to remove previously deposited ‘quetiapine fat’ i.e. that which was gained while on quetiapine. What I am saying is that quetiapine is like a key. It unlocks quetiapine fat and allows it to be metabolized. And certainly for me it is not metabolized without the introduction of quetiapine.

The time between the end of the very first quetiapine course of medication (six months duration) and the first ‘trial’ was three years. And in that first ever trial the quetiapine almost knocked me out like it did when I first had to take it. So I believe three years was adequate time for my body to lose its resistance to the drug.

After those two years passed following the regain of most of the weight I trialed cautiously again. Perhaps the side effects were not quite as powerful but were still very strong. And I began to lose weight again. This is where I am at now. I am as careful as I can be to make sure I determine when the efficacy is gone again.

So for me, time, that expensive commodity, I see it in a new way. Having to wait years between hopefully successful trials. I have more weight to lose but i am on the road.

This is of course my unique experience and may not apply to others. But I would appreciate anyone else’s thoughts on how they managed to tackle the weight when diet and exercise failed.
