Pliva 467 Vs P10 Propanolol

Updated

I've been taking the Pliva 467 for almost 15 years. Now they did away with the 467 and i got the P10. I start them tomorrow but I'm afraid. Are they the same?

Hi Joyce - I understand your concerns, especially if the Pliva version (50111-467) has been working for you all this time. To answer your question, they both contain Propranolol Hydrochloride 10 mg. The P 10 version appears to be manufactured by Heritage Pharmaceuticals (NDC code 23155-110). The main difference between these two are the inactive ingredients.

Pliva 467 inactive ingredients:

- Anhydrous Lactose
- Magnesium Stearate
- Cellulose, Microcrystalline
- Sodium Starch Glycolate Type a Potato
- FD&C Yellow No. 6
- D&C Yellow No. 10
- Aluminum Oxide

P 10 inactive ingredients:

- D&C Yellow No. 10
- FD&C Yellow No. 6
- Lactose Monohydrate
- Magnesium Stearate
- Povidone
- Sodium Starch Glycolate Type a Potato
- Starch, Corn

I hope this helps to clarify things a bit. All in all, they should work the same way due to same active ingredient profile. So hopefully you will tolerate the inactive ingredients well and everything will continue working properly. Please write back and let me know how it goes!

I just started the p10 today I was at work and my blood pressure went up and I got really dizzy and felt like I was going to pass out. They sat me down and I felt my my pulse beating fast so I can calm down cause I got nervous. Everything calmed down and I started back to work again but they were going to send me home because I didn't feel right so the one nurse scared me and said it might be cardiovascular because of the pill. So if you could give me more information - I've been on this pill the Pliva 467 for like 15 years and never had a problem and now that company did away with the pill and I'm getting the P10 Propranolol 10 mg and everybody's telling me that it's the same thing, but look up the ingredients. So that's why I messaged you, to see if the ingredients are almost the same cause I'm getting a little nervous. Thank you for your reply back.

Sorry to hear that you're having a hard time with the new version. I've read other messages from people on this site saying that when they were dispensed the same drug from a different manufacturer, that it did not work the same. I wonder if you report this to your doctor and/or pharmacy, if they would be able to offer you this drug from a different manufacturer? Wishing you the best with this!

Re: Joyce (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

I too had been taking Pliva 467 for at least the past 7 years. I can't remember how far back before then but I had been taking it longer than 7. But I take it for migraine. I was given the Dan 5554 by Impax. Took it 6 weeks and it gave me side effects (weight gain, fluid retention). Also can't take the Mylan brand. Found the Heritage P-10 which I had taken for a few months several years ago when Pliva 467 wasn't available. I remembered it had worked for me before. All that to say, I did find that the P-10 worked for me just like the Pliva 467. I know it's been several months since you posted. I would be interested to know if you stuck with the P-10 or took something else and how you're doing now.

I had been taking the 467 Pliva 10mg of propranolol for 30yrs and now I cannot find it anywhere. I was given 5554 DAN by Actavis and it has been a month now and my insides are inflamed and I have acid reflux which is worse and nausea. I called Actavis which I was told was bought out by Teva along with Worthington etc. etc. I complained on a site and got a call from India and the gentleman asked me lots of questions so he could fill out a report and then connected me to Impax where he said I could get the 467 Pliva pill.

Impax then informed me that wasn't the case and it isn't available period. No one is making this pill! I am not going to report it to the FDA and anyone can go on line and ask the FDA why a pill like Pliva 467 10mg of propranolol can be sold to another manufacturer and the new manufacturer doesn't have to put the same inactive ingredients in the 467 Pliva. The 467 pill is 6mm and the new 5554 manufactured by Teva is 7mm, so there are about three different inactive ingredients in the 5554 that aren't in the 467 pill.

There should be laws governing the inactive ingredients just like there is with the main ingredient in my opinion. If there was a law stating such I wouldn't be suffering from side effects like others seem to be on this site and how many more people have to keep switching from one manufacturer to another to avoid feeling sick or having side effects. I there anyone out there who is also experiencing side effects from the 5554 made by Actavis or Impax?

This is Carole again. Sorry! I meant to say in my comments yesterday that if one is dissatisfied with what the FDA is doing in regards to the fact that they can put any one of different things in the inactive ingredients, you can complain to them, but going online to FDA.com, you will get instructions as to either printing out a form or calling them and they will send you a form. They will look into your complaint and heaven knows what they will actually do, but I am thinking it is worth a try.

Re: Carole (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I have this same concern. My son is reactive to many inactive ingredients. He has also been taking Pliva 467 for many years. I was hoping that the DAN 5554 would be the same pill, but I see from these posts that it isn't. I know the Pliva 467 isn't being manufactured anymore, but is there any way to track down a source for those that must still be on the market and haven't been purchased yet? He is autistic and very chemically sensitive. The Pliva 467 has been a blessing. Have any of you made any progress on this?
