Please Help Me: Int'l Student With Depression, Anxiety & Adhd

Updated

Hi, I'm a sophomore, International student with a scholarship from my government. I'm 36 years old and male. I have depression, anxiety and ADD/ADHD! I have 4 classes for this semester and I got this morning grade: D+. And I'm using this coming list everyday. Effexor 150mg 2 everyday, Concerta ER 54 mg, 1 a day, and Ritalin 20 mg, 3 a day. But my anxiety become very high! Should I ask my DR. To give me anything for my anxiety, and how can I improve my grade, what's the problem? I do not want to lose my scholarship, please help me what should I do? I go to a counselor 2 times a month, and I go to the learning center in my college everyday, also I have extra time 50% in my test. Thank you for your time of reading my problem and Thank you for your help :)

I'm a little confused as to why you are taking both Concerta and Ritalin, since they both contain Methylphenidate, too much of it may contribute to the problems you are experiencing.

Do you have a current doctor that knows you are taking both?

Either way, yes, you should consult a doctor about what you are experiencing, rather than let it affect your grades and scholarship.

I have known a few people over many years in 20 countries with a similar problem. I always focus on the cause to determine the solution. Some is inherited. But I also recognize that some things declared mental problems are caused by how they were raised and the social atmosphere they live in. So I would suggest you adapt with people who really care and not want your money. You may be better off than those who criticize you.

For myself I refuse all drugs and use herbs. (If I believed doctors I would have been dead already four times.) I was once thrown out of a college speech class because I read a Bible verse in my speech. It is the professor I feel sorry for, not me.

Oh Henry,

First I want to say. I commend you for what ur doing in your studies!!! I, too was formally diagnosed with what you have also. I tryed the Meds for ADHD/ADD. I could not tolerate them. Made me too hyper ect. I tryed every thing my PHD Dr gave me I thought in experiencing these amphetamine types drugs. "how can ppl be addicted to these things? I'd rather live with my symptoms than the drugs. I do take anti depressants and also Lorazapine one 0.5 tablet as needed forever anxiety when needed. These are the Meds I feel help me the most. Even more than the anti depressant. I'm also in the prices so of trying to accept the me I am and not take drugs just because they make others more comfortable and I am also setting boundaries where needed with ppl and no longer living a ppl please I go life to the detriment of my own needs. I'm learning to follow the path, drugs, that my phyci and as god leads me. In other words. I am trusting myself and not relying on others critical judgment or demands. Please know I care and I'm an old lady so I know a few thing about living with these things. And mosta my life there were not help. Support. Caring. Or acceptance that the ADD. ADHD spectrum was even real. You keep following your dreams. I know u can do it. Even against seem g ALL ODDS. You are doing it. You are seeking professional help. The phychiatrist is the first time I've been to one cause my insurance would not pay for a lessor degree. He's the first person. He also counsels me. The first person who when I gave him just a small synopsis of who I am, what I've been thru, acknowledged the value of me. He told me that he admired me for I'd been thru sooo much. Yet I'm still functioning. And he gave me permission to do what I need for myself. Not everyone else. Please forgive all my miss spells. I care. I understand I am walking in your shoes even tho our cars are different. May all your dreams come true.

Re: Marvin (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, there is truth to ur response. But ADHD AND all that goes with it is real. And background adds to it if u come from a neg upbringing. I'm just saying this so if anyone read ur response it would not make them think that the ADHD spectrum is not in their DNA. I have a great Dr who let me know that not everything I struggle with is just ADHD related but it is real and hat I deal with true ADHD ADDS TO THE background issues and makes me even more courageous as I press through it all.

Re: Misty (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

So sorry Misty. How frustrating for you to say the least. I take melatonin before be 3.5 if / when I remember Have u had blood work done to see if ur vis minerals ect are good and of course ur blood sugar. Could depression anxiety be in the mix? Have you had a traumatic loss or big change in ur life now or in the past that u were not able to work through? I care and hope u find an avenue where first u are heard and affirmed in ur struggle, and understood.

Re: Marvin (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

Sometimes meds are a god send and a life saver. Ifherbs ect could Do all meds woulda not be needed
And even in naturalistic as the medical field there can always be shisters. So a balance view is better than just accepting what all the nay sayers say for they tend to be more emotional that wisdom thinking and a balance in all rhings

I have Depression, anxiety and ADD/ADHD!

Effexor 150mg 2 everyday is a high dose that increases norepinephrine and causes anxiety that lower your IQ and makes you inattentive. Concerta ER 54 mg, 1 a day, and Ritalin 20 mg, 3 a day. IS the reason your anxiety become very high! Should I ask my DR. To give me anything for my anxiety: NO how can I improve my grade: Working hard and focusing on your learning process but the Effexor/Adderall/Ritalin should be reduced, and that is the problem? Think of the way you were before they put you on all these medications and how you are now. Depending on how long you have been taking these meds the reduction should be done slowly due to risk of rebound reactions that are NORMAL and not indication of a disease process.

Re: Rainie (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Even worse that I cannot understand the cause is a man with schizophrenia. I have no clue to why that occurs, and no solution could I find either.

I honestly do not know how anyone can function on these Meds. I tried many and decided they were not for me at all. I hated how they made me feel.

Based on this subject, I understand why mistreatment can cause it, maybe even with suicide. I have been put in jail three times while I was totally innocent and did nothing wrong. The last time was only because I was helping a college student who lived in my house. She was a Catholic nun from Kenya greatly abused by her uncle (a US Army Catholic priest). She was forced out of my house and later to sign a paper that I harassed her. She sent me a message about that, then her cell phone was cut off so we could not communicate. She remained in another house where she told me, "Why does that man only come to my room when his wife is asleep?" Because of her treatment, she was constantly depressed until her time in my house, the first place in her 31 years she ever had freedom and independence. I could attach details, but it would be two pages long and may not fit here.
