Plavix Lost Of Taste

Updated

Hi,

My name is Michael and I've been on Plavix for the last 3 months. About a month ago or so I completely lost my taste. I thought I was going crazy; however, I found out that there are other people having the same taste lost side effect like me. I was wondering if anyone here had the same problem and if you have been able to regain your taste somehow and also what did you do to regain your taste?
I would really appreciate a repy to this email as I am getting desperate and nobody can help me.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration to this.

Michael

My husband complaints are the same since he's been taking Plavix. He no longer enjoys the taste of food. I wish there was another alternative as it appears that only by discontinuing the drug will releve the effects.

I TOO HAVE NOTICED MY LACK OF ABILITY TO TASTE FOODS AFTER BEING ON PLAVIX FOR OVER 2 MONTHS, I CAN ONLY TASTE SALT OR BITTER FOODS EVERYTHING ELSE IS BLAND LIKE EATING TOFO, I GUESS ITS A CATCH 22 SITUATION MAYBE I WONT EAT ANY MORE AND LOWER MY FOOD INTAKE MAYBE MAKE ME HEALTHIER, BUT NO DOUBT NOT HAPPIER, I GUESS THATS WHAT GOT ME INTO THIS SITUATION IN THE FIRST PLACE. IF I COME UP WITH ANY ANSWER I SURELY WILL POST IT .

after having placed a 'stent' in a coronair artery about three weeks ago, I had to take plavix 75 mg. After a week I noticed that I did not have a normal taste anymore, no sweet, no acid, no salt hardly and no bitter taste. This is realy a disaster and I shall contact my doctor about this.
Any news about this item?

I had a stroke in September 2012 and was put on Plavix.
I started noticing that food didn't satisfy me and everything was tasting bland... I also noticed that I felt like if I had something in the back of my throat but clearing my throat didn't get rid of it.
I noticed I have to put more salt in my food to taste a bit better...
I told my doctor about the throat thing and he thought it was an allergy, but more and more I'm associating the lack of taste in food and even a weird taste in my mouth with the Plavix...

I wash just placed on Plavix 9 days ago. I've noticed that my food taste very off or has little to no taste. I'm finding that I'm very frustrated about this, as it makes me not want to eat at all. I'm already eating very little as is. Glad to know I'm not alone in this. I'm hoping that something can be done and plan on talking to my dr about this!

I am having the same issues here. After 2 months, absolutely no tastebuds and I am real foodie.
I am getting depressed as I cannot even cook as I cannot taste anything. The Dr may switch me to Effient so I will let you know if there is progress. Hang in there.

I had a MI on Jan 24th of 2016 and had a DES inserted. I have been on plavix for 9 months and the side effects are destroying my life. I am still taking aspirin. But have stopped plavix. It's been 2 days. I want to use Nattokinase instead of plavix. Has anyone used this and should I use it with aspirin or stop the aspirin and just take the NATTOKINASE. I can hardly function on plavix as it makes me feel very weak causes confusion. Everything goes bad when I take it. I told my cardiologist it was making feel like I wanted to die and thought it was other scripts I was on which I no longer take. BP is perfect and diet improved. Plavix and aspirin is all I am on and when I stop taking the plavix I feel normal again. When I try to take it again out of fear of dying from clot forming on my stent the side effect hit within an hour and until it starts to wear off the next day it's like being totured. So I am looking at taking Nattokinase as an alternative. I am 41 years old and feel i have lots of life left to live. Anyone have any direction on this.

I have been taking Plavix for five years for my coronary stents. Ever since starting it I have had this chronic salty taste in my mouth. It is a nightmare. I originally thought it was due to a Nother medication I was taking however that does not appear to be the case. Have you or anyone else had this issue? I saw an ad for Brillanta on TV which appears to be similar. Anyone tried it?

How long does it take before taste buds return after taking Plavix for a month and a half? I have a bitter taste in my mouth and everything I eat tastes like mush. I have no appetite and I should because I have not eaten anything substantial for a week.

I don't know where I read it but I think that the combination of Plavix and aspirin isn't good. PLEASE ask your doctor with anything to do with your heart. Or try to get a second opinion from another doctor of cause. God Bless you.

Stopped generic plavix. Took natto and had anxiety attack. Been on brand name plavix and still have weird body chemistry. Moodiness and bruise easily. I have learned to live with the side effects and take a plavix and aspirin each day. I do notice that I need more water and sugar and from time to time have blood in my nose. I have just accepted the side effects for now.

Joe, I can only wish you the best. I was just a bit worried when I read your posting and thought I should mention what I read somewhere. Please let your doctor be the one to decide what's best for you. But I would mention the nose bleed to your doctor. Take care hope all goes well for you. Blessings.

I've lost 99% of my taste since starting Plavix (actually the generic) 7 weeks ago. I can taste some herbs and a hint of taste in some fruits and a very few other things. Took about a week to start noticing, and another 3 weeks to finish it off. I stopped taking it two days ago and hoping to start tasting again. My doctor didn't seem too keen on my stopping it. Like it wasn't important?????? I'm taking aspirin now.

Yep. It can do it. My taste started coming back after about two and a half weeks. Took over two months to be completely normal again. Doctor told me to stop taking it and take a baby asprin every day instead.

Doctor told me to quit taking it. I take a baby aspirin instead. That's just me, though. That's what my doctor told me.

Re: Rudy (# 16) Expand Referenced Message

Wow - that's pretty scary. I hope your doctors can provide you with help, instead of dismissing it as a side effect. Additionally, lipitor can lower CoQ10 levels. You should talk to your doctor about adding a CoQ10 supplement to replenish your levels.

I was placed on Plavix some 18 months ago, after a second stroke. I was having sinus issues as well, and thought my lack of taste and smell was due to that. I stopped Plavix two days ago in preparation for a minor surgery, and noticed today that my sense of smell and taste has returned big time. Even though I have a cold, my taste is back. It was just a guess on my part, and a google search to confirm what I suspected. Plavix. I believe my docs are switching me to Pradaxa due to some arrhythmia soon, so I look forward to the change. By the way, I have lost 30 pounds since this all started, just no desire to eat tasteless food.
