Pharmacies In Cleveland, Ohio Refuse To Fill An Adipex Prescription

Updated

My Adipex-prescribing doctor indicated that he is no longer permitted to hand out the pills after a physical exam due to Ohio law on habit forming drugs. He could only write prescriptions for Adipex which was fine, however 4 pharmacies refused to fill the prescription because it’s addictive - this was my first prescription! I could see if I had a history of abusing it but I don’t. Anyone else having the same problem? Is there any way around this?

That sounds silly! Have you ever had an issue filling any other medications in the past? Would there be any reason to maybe have been flagged (not necessarily on purpose, but maybe a name mix up)? Have you tried the big chain stores? Sorry for the questions, just seeing what you tried so I don't make a suggestion that has already been attempted.

It’s getting out of hand. I’m in Ohio as well and although I haven’t been effected by the new laws (yet) with my Adderall prescription I imagine it’s just a matter of time. Reading about Adipex it sounds similar(ish) to Adderall though maybe more stimulate than you’re looking for in an appetite suppressant. Crazy that the pharmacy won’t adhere to your doctors orders! Might be worth calling your insurance and somehow raising a stink about it because that sounds completely asinine. And also seems like you need to lose a limb these days to get anything greater than Motrin for pain. I’d push back a little - you’re not a known abuser and shouldn’t be treated as such with your first script. Feel your frustration. Worst comes to worse some people find adderall an appetite suppressant (actually makes me eat more for whatever reason). Best of luck with the madness.

People are going to stop going to doctors when they need to because of these new rules and regulations. They want to prescribe antidepressant drugs for pain and anxiety. These type of drugs are just placebos with chemicals in them to make you sick if you stop taking them. I will have to look your drug up but if they are not going to give patient's something that helps or if they do and the pharmacy refused to fill it, what do we need them For? Why waste our money to see them? The Govt. Has a big smear campaign going on. If you think they won't exaggerate things while they are trying to brain wash you, then you haven't been paying attention.

I would try Canada and screw the Ohio pharmacies. The pharmacies and/or Ohio laws are trying to clamp down but as usual, they don't have a law that fits everyone.

I rarely fill a prescription - In fact the last prescription I filled was in 2016 via a dentist for medication I had to take prior to him pulling two molar teeth. My Adipex doctor said the Government was clamping down on how these pills are distributed. He even had me try ordering them via mail with the script or have my prescription filled via a web-based pharmacy - all unsuccessful because it’s labeled “habit forming”. I was shocked the pharmacists have control to deny the prescription. One asked me questions about blood pressure, what diseases/conditions I have that would require me to take Adipex, then she denied it. One outright said my BMI didn’t look high enough for her to fill it. It sounds like I’m out of luck on this. Other weight loss clinics only talk about vitamin shots and shakes. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Diane (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I'm surprised you can't get your doctor's office to call and find out why they don't want to fill it. I haven't had anything habit forming filled since the late 1990's. Back then if my doc wanted medication filled early he would call them. The DEA has everyone running scared. You know with the new regulations the govt. is scaring everyone with threats of fines and even lawsuits.

Re: Ed (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

Long story short I had to get my medications from Canada for 1 occurrence. Not one of my 25 medications were questioned, and yes I have 2 prescriptions that are (I think) level 3 Even in the US you have to jump through hoops (granted small ones) to get them. The Canadian pharmacy didn't even blink an eye when they got the request. There was a screwup with my former employer and it took a week to get it straightened out, So all my scripts now are mail order in the US, which is (for me) cheaper and the pharmacist does not know me anymore because I use mail order. Mail order has its own set of issues as you no longer have somebody to go to bat for you. My pharmacist did fight for me on occasion with the drug insurance people were being jerks. Now when there is an issue I let my doctor fight it out and its iffy on the outcome.

Re: Diane (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I'm so sorry to hear that. I can't believe how judgmental the pharmacy is acting. I mean that's what it boils down to! They are basically saying you can't take the medicine responsibly. I'm on several pain medications and I had a big chain not want to fill my medication. So they in my mind said because they couldn't see my disability and thought I was too young that I wouldn't take my medication responsibly. This is ridiculous!!! I hope that you find a small family pharmacy that you can acquaint yourself with and have your problem solved. Good luck!!

Re: Painsurvior (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

Yes. Walgreens and CVS I found are the worst. Last time (and believe me it is my last time) they stamped my script, after waiting a hour, they told me the pharmacist had to call my doc, then they would let me know the next day if the pharmacist would make a decision on whether they would choose to fill it. Next day, I was told the pharmacist would fill it on a good faith FAVOR, as I hadn't filled it there in about 8 months. Well they can do me one more FAVOR and go back to school and get their PHD so they are educated enough to make that call. I will not return for a motrin. Talk to me like i'm dirt under their feet. I'm 57, been taking the medicine for 10+ years. I've been on this earth for at least 30+ years before she/he was even conceived. No professional Ethics.

We moved to Ohio six years ago and now my PC does not want to write the script for my panic condition because it too is a controlled substance, Lorazepam for anxiety. My hubby and I both have panic conditions. He is wheelchair bound and I'm on a walker. Our original PC is on leave for five months, maybe longer and the physician taking her place made my husband jump through hoops just to get his usual script for Lorazepam. My husband had to go 100 miles round trip on day one and the new Dr. bullied my husband because he couldn't supply a U/A on demand. My husband offered a mouth swab and blood work but they turned him down flat, told him to come back another day which he did, 100 miles more! They finally wrote the script but harassed my husband something awful. We did get an ombudsman to work on our behalf but it didn't do any good whatsoever! My do they put broke down bodies on these drugs only to snatch them away and leave them with noting unless they pitch a fit or hire an attorney which btw, we can't afford one.

Re: Steve (# 6) Expand Referenced Message

Steve, as I said before a couple of my scripts, are narcotic type: scripts. The mail order used to let me order them online. Now I have to call in for each refill. Its a pain as I tend to get people who are new on the job and they do not have a clue. Last night I called in and got a real rookie. I said thanks but no thanks, I called in this AM and the woman was completely professional.
